Double Elite in a Sidewinder

The ultimate grind (nearly). After 238 hrs of play-time, I got my double Elite. The Explorer one was fairly easy at 41.5 hours, but I had to blow up approximately 8000 ships to get my combat Elite - nearly all done in a high RES. I was blown up three times: Once when I shot a Gunship and forgot about its fighter, which got me from behind before I had a chance to fight back; once by the feds when I made a mistake just as the bad guy blew up, so about 12 of them of which 6 were Anacondas, turned on me; and once by a Cobra with rail guns after I suffered a ram and scan from another ship, which took down my shields and 40% of my hull in the middle of the fight.

I earned 413 million in bounties doing the combat, so that's an average of just over 2 million an hour, though I was playing for kills rather than credits.

Now I'm thinking about how to get the trading Elite with only 5T cargo capacity.

Congratulations! Considering you get more bang for the price cargo (I think not 100% sure) your best bet would be low temp diamonds. There is a very small and slim guide out there to pirate them off of cargo ships in particular systems. You can probably interdict them, cargo hatch them for 5 low temps and get out. Sell. Repeat.

Good luck.

Nice job. Trading elite should be a snap with the ram tah mission! If you don't use that though....man I don't want to even consider the alternatives because they are BAD...

Yeah LTD piracy is probably your best bet. Scan a T6 or Asp in supercruise in an agricultural system and see if they have a refinery on board. If they do they'll have LTDs, don't need a cargo scanner. Interdict them and let them jump to an anarchy system, wakescan, follow, reinterdict and hatchbreak them. Dunno what you'll be able to take with the module space you'll need but you should be able to get something. It's either that or rares trading at 5 tons a go.

Congrats OP!

Is my math right? That works out to about 40 kills per hour for the combat rank? That seems insanely high to me. :p

It's probably just my lack of skill or pure ignorance, but I might be lucky to kill 10 an hour maybe 20 if they spawn quick enough & close enough (most of the time I am waiting). Are there any 'special' Res zones out there I should be looking for that don't leave you just flying around looking for targets?

I still have 6.5k or more ships to kill to get to Elite combat (only 1500hours in lol), but I find it rather boring, so any way I can speed it up would be great!

Meta Alloys sell for around 100k per. 10,000T, 2000 trips, 10-20min per trip, 3333hrs minimum.

Now that the feds and imperials have left the Pleiades, that's actually not a bad plan. New money farm? (although I still prefer my clown car idea, for obvious reasons).

Obvious, but may feel totally tedious if that is the only option.

Pirating, data missions, mining and rare/normal trading could all be mixed up. I would imagine it would be a fairly long journey. But on the other hand if you can find locations that allow your to achieve an average of 40 kills per hour without entering a CZ, who knows?

Wow. I'm impressed. Well done. Well done indeed. +1.

What was your ship's loadout during the different phases and what RNGineering mods did you have?

after doing a soft reset and finding myself back in the starter sidey I forgot how much fun they can be. Bloody good work there I haven't even gotten elite in anything yet as I'm much less focused and do random stuff when I feel like it.

Do wing trade dividends go toward trade rank?

if so then wing up and trade with a few friends in Cutters in the wing, I'll be willing to join for a few sessions.
