And video games are real or you wouldn't be playing them. You'd only imagine playing them. Of course obfuscating the difference between gameplay content and the reality of the game is how certain people attempt to legitimize their behavior.

I don't have to legitimize my behavior because I'm playing a video game, that I paid for with my money, that I worked for in the real world. Maybe get some help differentiating the difference between a video game and real life.

This was NOT a legitimate in-character act of aggression. There's nothing legitimate about this.

This is an obvious case of harassment: a real person dying of cancer. A real person. There are no in-game excuses for this. No in-character reason for it. They did it to troll a dying man and the community; they did it for the giggles and for the real-life infamy, to hurt people on a personal level.

It doesn't matter that the mechanics exist in the game, what matters is the INTENT. They did it on purpose to harm human beings, not video game characters.

It's low. It's despicable. No excuses. The trolls must be banned, period.

Wrong on so many levels.

You're making it personal. If you get an asset in game for whatever reason; you know that this stuff can and often does happen. Get off your high horse and rather than keyboard warrioring; get to work resolving it.

Wrong? You must have lots of friends in real-life. Maybe you never lost a loved one to cancer or another terminal illness? Or maybe you're just a *.

The man is dying, and he chose to spend a few hours a day enjoying a video game he loves in the company of its community and his five years old daughter.

This has nothing to do with video game assets. It's all about giving a dying man a positive experience. The assets mean nothing.

This attack is illegitimate because of its INTENT: the intent to hurt REAL PEOPLE, not video game characters, not video game assets.

You should feel ashamed of being a giant * on the Internet, but I know better and you're probably very proud of cheering the idiots who did this.

Who's comments? there have been a lot!

here you go.

I’ve lost family through terminal illness and watching mates either bleed out in front of me, or disappear over the side of the ship never to be seen again.

Hasn’t stopped me from saying ‘It’s just a game, these actions can be fixed in game, so let’s do it!’ Throughout this whole debacle

Hey guys, I'd just like to point out for the purposes of perspective:

-The thread for the actual expedition is about 28 pages of responses.
-The thread for back and forth over a single incident that happened during the expedition is stretching into its 42nd 43rd page.

So none of this is really going to accomplish anything other than create animosity. What's done is done. Was it terrible? Yes, but we can pull together and fix it. We have the knowledge and the means in game.

Mate... it's cancer. He's reached out to me via reddit... because of this people are ACTIVELY trolling him.

Mate... it's cancer. A real person. In real life.

A) I'm not your mate.

B) I am sorry for him and he has my deepest sympathies

C) No one is trolling HIM. They are playing the game legitimately; UA bombing has long been a thing heck I was one if the folks that UA bombed Sothis and Ceos 2 years ago.

What needs to happen is FDev need to shut this down. Immediately. Show their playerbase they have zero tolerance for harassment of cancer victims. There's no other option.

The main reason for this outrage is not because of the game mechanics (you can go through the gigs of discussion on this elsewhere). It is over the fact that there are some in this community who would like to ruin a terminal cancer patients last few weeks in the game before they pass. The fact that because someone is dying and that they get special treatment for it seems to have got some troll get jealous of the attention. Maybe we all had the hoped that the community might be better than this but I guess not, especially when people seem to agree with the trolls who are undertaking this action.

Oh how can trying to spoil a dying person's last go at the game not be personal?

Mate... I'll say it again.

Because of this. People are actively seeking him out... him... the cancer victim... and are trolling him... personally... directly... not in game... in real life... because of this event.

So using legitimate game mechanics is griefing now?

Griefing is another word for harassment. What's been done could be potentially classed as that. There is a fine line. IMHO cases like this should be looked at on case by case basis.

Also IMHO - this one does class as harassment, considering the circumstances and FDEV should take an action against this.

They didn't (yet?) which is a shame.

Regardless, I think that throwing mud at each other serves nothing. That's why I offered a T9 full of MA's we've had stashed in our home system. That's why some of my guys are already on their way to Colonia hauling over 400 MA's in total, along with many other Commanders that are helping out to prevent this shameful act of what in my opinion is indeed griefing, and a griefing of the lowest kind.

I despise the people responsible for it.
