Drew's tricky Elite quiz, separating the Jamesons from the Ryders

We have the masters in the house. :)

Q15. Something was changed in the original Elite just prior to publication, right at the last minute. What was it?

the height indicators on the scanner? as in, if a blip is above or below you.

EDIT: I'm fairly sure it was the scanner.

The radar display

Is the right answer. It was twin 2D displays prior to launch. David Braben changed it to the familiar 3D scanner at the last moment. Point to Alien too. :)

A more difficult one.

Q16. What drive technology did the Generation ships use?

Because it was a 2-part mission, you took two hitchhikers there and they ask you to come pick them up. If you go back at the requested date, they tell you to leave quick. You then read in the newspaper, the statue got stolen.

I'm still confused Alien, cos the statue is not located where you take the hitch-hikers to. The statue needs picking up from Achenar.

The hitch-hikers you drop off at Urtize, then as you rightly say you pick them up again in a panicked mad rush, and then take them to Edethex.

I've picked up and delivered the statue in January, even before the hitch-hikers appear asking to be taken to Urtize.

It wasn't just the height - it was the whole way of displaying the ships on the radar display (according to my aging memory crystals).

I love the line "There are more than seventy thousand of these immense vessels ploughing their way through the galaxy, some of them into their 30th generation. The penalty for interference with such a vessel is marooning."

Marooning!

"THIS IS CETI ALPHA FIVE!"
