Dromedary Camel in the 1.6 Update?

Tbh, only 5 users or so on this forum were actually upset about it. They just posted a lot in a lot of threads.
Some were not expecting or hoping it would happen but only a (slight) disappointment.
Would be nice but I hope people actually learn from last year's experience and don't expect it this time. Only 2 games (JWE/PC) got an anniversary update, all their other games not.
I was including PZ reddit and twitter in this though, and there were a lot of people on both that were disappointed.

As far as the aviary dlc thing, I do think they'll have one or two birds for free, because I think, like the diving system, the aviary system would need to be implemented in a free update rather than a dlc, simply because that gives us the chance to have, say an Endangered Species pack that also has 1 or 2 birds, like the Bali mynah or something. That way someone doesn't have to buy the aviaries dlc to use the birds from another dlc, if that makes sense.

If there is a dromedary coming, I think it is more likely to show up as a surprise in the DLC rather than the free update. Possibly with a reveal on social medias on Monday, since they will be done posting the other 5 then.

If they include it in the DLC and not the update, then they are technically not giving it out for free. It will just feel like that, because we wouldn't expect it.
The price of the DLCs have always been the same at release (right?). But the amount of content have not been equal.

  • In packs with scenery the amount of pieces haven't been constant. It has been from around 170-220+, if I remember correctly.
  • The Arctic pack didn't include an exhibit animal
  • The SEA is just its own thing
  • Some had campaign(s), some didn't.

The Africa pack is on the lower end when it comes to scenery pieces, so it would be kind of fair to compensate with an extra animal instead, since we are going to pay the same as we did, when we got 220+ pieces.

A dromedary is probably not something that would make more people buy the DLC, but it would be seen very positively by those who were already planning on buying it.

Not saying I think this will happen, just saying I find it more likely than seeing it in the free update.

Frontier doesn't do surprise animals. What they listed is all this DLC is going to get, full stop. The only alternatives are a free addition, an accidental tease for their next pack, or dromedaries just aren't happening and there's a lot of communication work at Frontier that needs to be done.

Also, the only DLC without some sort of campaign or scenario is the South American Pack, which also had 250+ building pieces.

Just connected the dots on this, but another idea to throw into the conjecture/speculation pile for those who find it fun (not necessarily for those who take it too seriously)....

This week's Franchise Community Challenge was about Bactrian camels. So it seems unlikely that they'd do that if we're getting a new camel next week. If anything, they would have waited and made the next one a challenge for both camels together.

Unless, of course, the challenge itself is part of an elaborate scheme to throw us off the scent!

Well not so long after the release of SEA pack they did a challenge for breeding only one specific species of tapir, so I don't think you can read much from this.

I find it interesting that the North African theme features a statue of the Dromedary. I know animals not in the game have been referenced in scenery items before, and this usually means nothing, but the DLC themes (as far as I know anyway) never feature scenery of animals not featured in that DLC pack. So it's interesting to me that this theme does. Could this possibly mean that for the first time we'll be getting a free animal with the update? A dromedary fits the theme of the DLC well, and honestly it's hardly a difficult animal to make. They literally just need to adjust the model of the in-game Bactrian Camel to have 1 hump and they basically have a new animal. I'd love to have Dromedaries, they're common in many of the zoos I've been too.
Where is the Dromedary statue? Did I miss something?

IMO, it would be easy as hell to make a dromedary out of a Bactrian so there's no reason to not either add it to the Africa pack or have it in 1.6
There are two reasons: time and money. It takes time and it'd revert no money back. They haven't even done that for the anniversary so it's understandable that they didn't include it in just one of the many updates/DLCs.

A trailer with a camel in front of the Egypt building theme - I cannot imagine a better image from a sales person's perspective when marketing the DLC.
And some people here act like we're talking about an indie dev studio, which has to count every penny. I mean, with Planet Zoo alone Frontier had total sales of at least 50m EUR.

The other time is just dependent on if and how aviaries are implemented, because they usually don't like locking such major features behind dlc only. Problem is, the aquatic pack didn't have this issue because there were base game animals they could give diving to. So I could potentially see one free parrot or something come as an FLC at the time of that pack's release.
Peafowl: I am joke to you?

Seen the threads on Reddit and anniversary tweets on Twitter back then, (somewhat) disappointed was mentioned very often but upset, small group.
Let just agree to disagree about "a lot" :D

Oh, like that. If they are going to add more birds in other DLC that would work.

I'm not convinced they do a Endangered species pack with birds or a second bird pack. (if we get aviaries in the first place) - so didn't think about the other option yet.
I think it will be a 1-time (bigger) DLC or expansion to address aviaries and that's it.

My point was more: I think it would be less polite to add flight and 1 or 2 free birds and basically say: If you want to enjoy this new feature, you'll have to buy the DLC.
That's the big difference with diving that also works for the base-game animals and we don't have birds that benefit from aviaries in the basegame.

Don't mind being wrong on this one :D but I definately consider that as an option as well.

As far as the aviary dlc thing, I do think they'll have one or two birds for free,
I see two possibilities - if the aviaries are akin to exhibits, they can be locked behind a DLC, because it isn't a new gameplay feature but a new facility. If birds are to be new habitat animals, then they won't need to release any for free, because whatever containment unit they put in place for them, whether it's some kind of new habitat type or a way to make the current habitats enclosed for flight, can be used for any other animal in the game. I lean towards the latter - some kind of new covered habitat, no free animals. Covered habitats alone have been requested often on the forums for primates, big cats, red pandas, and so on, all of which are often displayed in such enclosures in real zoos. There's no reason to give us free birds, if birds are indeed coming.

Oh well at least we’re getting 4 new additions to planet zoo. I still think we have a strong chance of getting the dromedary in a dlc pack someday in the future tbh.
