DSS Launch Probe Keybind?

Somebody help me out, please, for the love of Ethel.

And yes, I have googled.

But for the life of me I cannot find out where the key map option is for 'Launch Probe' in DSS mode. It just tells me I haven't got a key bound - and although I have had it working before (on my primary fire key), my DSS/FSS/mode switch control bindings are clearing themselves at random intervals and this time I'm drawing a blank. Somehow the Launch Probe command has been wiped and I cannot find out where to set it. Primary fire isn't doing the trick this time.

I did read one post that suggested I had to set the Multi-crew gunner fire controls, so I have tried that, but no luck.

Any suggestions, oh forum knowledgeables?

As para saus, it is not in the control settings. It is like a weapon, bound in the firegroup panel.

We were obviously at cross purposes. Thank you, yes, that does work. Clearly the 'Not Bound' message at the bottom of the screen...

...is a decoy designed to confuse idiots like me.

Thank you for your assistance.

Mine says "LAUNCH PROBE [JOY 1]" - I'm sure they stick in things like these quirks just to play with us - fun isn't it. :)

if it helps, I had to google for a bit myself to solve it a few days ago, and that was AFTER I already learned how to do it in beta. :p

I have absolutely HATED doing the keybinds this time.

I gave up the game for days.

Got a bigger throttle quad.

Took a rebuy from having no muscle memory. Where did I move Hi-Wake to again?

Spent a day using the F.F.S and constantly getting “Computer Says No”

And I did watch the videos and have a poke at it in Beta. But it really has been a horrible experience. It might be easy if you know what you are doing and you get it right, but when you get an error it’s like - “what even is that?” “Why you not work, why?”

Like it just feels that I’m doing things at random and hoping.
Spending a lot of time flailing away at it.

Even at one point the binding for HUD mode disappeared and I traced it to a faulty switch on the warthog. What the actual? - That thing has like ten hour’s use, it’s been in the cupboard for three years.

Oh Yeah - the first time I set my bindings they went back to default. I feel like I’m a week behind - everything I wanted to tag has been grabbed - actually not completely true I did get a “First Mapped” on a Thargoid Barnacle planet. Dunno why that one was left, but thanks.

It seems both harder and too easy.

Like suddenly I’ve “found” 30 odd Barnacles and a hundred biologicals and scores of geologicals.

I’m not that guy. I generally follow on the work of others and pick one small aspect to make into uh “my thing”.

Dunno what I would have changed but the balance doesn’t seem right, and I’ve found the process opaque and time consuming.

2/5 - would not bang again. It was weird and uncomfortable and it gave me herpes. (pretty face though)

So nobody knows where to go to rebind the launching probes?

As you can see there is no option in the Options / Controls section for the DSS for "Launch Probe", you assign the DSS to a fire button to fire probes, as we mentioned in posts 2 and 3 above.

N.B There is an "Exit Mode" option but, like the "Launch Probe", there is no "Enter DSS Mode" option either - the fire button does that too.

It's already assigned to fire group 2, which is bound to joystick button 1, but it still forces me to use the mouse.

Eh, I'll put it down to a bug and see if they fix it in an upcoming patch.

See, I for one want an extra keybind, and here's why: the FSS and DSS play best with a gamepad imo, so that's what I do. But to fire a DSS probe, I have to put down the controller and press the button on my hotas, which is really slow and very dumb. Also prevents me from doing exploring with my DK2 which is a shame.

I mean--we have 614,229 separate controls for this game in the config panel today (I counted!). What is one more gonna do, disrupt the balance of the universe? :D

Yeah I looked at that option (extra controller) but I use the controller for camera.
I think you can bind a fire to two things, but then you need to have next firegroup on your controller as well, and now you’re building the “targeting and weapons” block into another device. How far should you take that?
previous firegroup too? What about select next target? - See I have “next ship” = L; “prev hostile” = R; “prev sub” = Down; “next sub”= Up. That way I can cycle through ships in SC looking for unrevealed threats, or cycle through threats in a CZ. But in both cases, I don’t have the “other half” mapped. So if I over shoot in target selection, I can’t go back, I have to go round again. And of course if the target isn’t a ship, I have to open up the contacts panel to browse it. Which is kinda okay, but kinda sucks too - like the contacts panel isn’t sorted by distance it’s sorted by, uh Dav’s sock drawer? Number of stripes on space loach? Does anyone actually know? “Why not distance oh lord of the hamsters? Why not nearest on top?”

Yeah so sometimes I want “next target” bound, but not often enough to remember where I put it.

Like camera speed is super useful, but where did I put it? You don’t get any feedback until you pan the camera.

In all I find the nee controls like an itchy jumper.
It needs to be really cold, and the others would have to be dirty first before I wear it.

I honestly think I want to just map everything to Voice Attack and drive my family nuts.

Oh and that Condensation Scanner wtchamacallit - Doesn't work when the Geo or Bio site nav marker is under ground.
Oh my god that is horrble.

And NOW -
Recall Dismiss Ship!?

That used to be in the right hand panel I think, but even though I've bound it to a variety of buttons, none of them respond.

Can't dismiss my ship, so I can't recall it, and I can't board it.
I'm, parked at Mahon Research Base out in the California Nebula, and I'm parked in the garage, and I think I'm going to have to restart the game in non-horizons just to board my ship.

Un Believeable.

AAAAAAAAAAARRRRGGHGHGH!
I just spent 10 hours scanning all the Barnacles in a system, not seeing them in my Codex.
And it turns out - IT’S ANOTHER KEYBIND!

Wait - is this why none of the planets I've mapped (at least yet) have any POI features? Do... do I need to use the composition scanner in addition to the detailed surface scanner to map/find points of interest on the surface of a planet? Or have I just been unlucky so far? Hrm...
