Dune; Awakening

"Survival MMO" - I can quite picture how that will turn out: Like the other ones that have tried. They often just fail. Not sure why I would want a multimillion dollar lore franchise to be the backdrop to the next griefer's paradise and Hardcore Harkonnen "roleplayers". Kinda a waste of the rich stor, imo - like pearls before hogs.

But they do appear to actually have sandworms, unlike some other franchise that claimed to have them and...well, didn't!

I'm looking forward to the next movie. I'm kinda old-school and always regarded Lynch's version the best adaptation for the screen, but Villeneuve did a good one. Video games is another story - you gotta capture that ambience or create a new interpretation (artstyle mostly, soundscape). Worms and that is more or less easy, but when we get to gholas, tech (ornithopter) and navigators there is always room for interpretation. As well as the architecture (interior, exterior, ships).

I plan to see Dune 2 soon. I watched part one again this week to remind myself of details before I watch the continuation.
I thought the 1984 version was very good too (seen it at least 4 or 6 times).
While watching a "how its made" short video on the making of this new version, I took some comfort in the statement by the narrator, many of the actors had to have a glossary of terms to understand Frank Herbert's writings about Dune. I tried reading it decades ago ('70s or '80s) but gave up after a few chapters due to the strange names, descriptions, adjectives, etc etc. It was very frustrating to read it and I thought at the time, I'm simply not capable to understand this stuff. The book I had did not include a glossary which it should have imho.
Have a nice day

Pity they wasted the opportunity to create a decent game by heading for the low hanging fruit of a survival MMO

I dont really trust Funcom, and this comes from the fact that i played the initial Age of Conan since launch in 2008 and then, for the next 2 years, i watched how they slowly kill the game. I quit in like 2010

Funcom is also owned by the Chinese Tencent.

Just downloaded the Character Creator and Benchmark Mode. Looks like it should perform well enough on my machine, I wonder what the game will be like.

We've got similar AMD hardware so I thought I'd do the same and download the benchmark thingy....2 results from the benchmark, first with frame generation on and the global illumination etc set to performance...which I never use...and the second run without the frame generation with global illumination and fsr3 set to quality.

Frame generation just gives me a blurry, muted image for the sake of a few more fps, I really don't like it :)

Decent results anyway. The only thing that troubles me is that this is a survival game...I'm not really a big fan of the genre. If it had been marketed as an RPG I'd have been happier 🤷‍♂️
