DW02 ruined in one simple step.

SIgned up for DW02 excited, gave me a good reason to set a ship up for specific roles. I made the choice of becomming a miner/geologist and spent my time working on a good outfitting build to allow me to jump, defend myself and mine.
Engineered to the and set of sunday happy and ready to go. Got to the Omega Nebula this morning and called my stored fighter rack up here that I was going to switch out for the guardian FSD whilst we completed the 1st event/community goal. I had my friend outfitting at the same time, to have a fight/jump friendly Krait MKII, to RP as a personal body guard.

Log onto PS4 a few mins ago message board says tomorrow they will have all the parts to create a mining ship at Omega Mining Station, and we can all be miners!!! wooooooo

I guess I should use this free week ahead of me to travel back and refit my T-10 to actually jump.

...Depends upon how keen you are with the mining. Personally... Nah. Not so much. Blowing up rocks is OK for an hour or so but it soon gets repetitive and doesn't pay anywhere near enough to make the activity worth the flaff for me. I might do some of it but unless it pays out well on the CG (aka >>50mil which is exceptionally unlikely), I won't be putting much time and effort into mining rocks for FDev to progress their game. Thanks FDev, but no thanks. Progression/Development of the game shouldn't be contingent to my participation (whether I want to or not).

And as for flying back to outfit a larger ship for the pleasure ... As I said. Nah. Not going to happen.

Sorry you feel this way...but this IS the design of the game...player participation does create content (sometimes). I for one, am glad for it...whether I avail myself of the content or not....

Not sure I am following your disappointment on this.

For me it takes away from the feel of an epic, gruelling test of a journey. Now it has a pampered feel to it. Rather than a group of players making their way through the galaxy, the galaxy is coming to us. bubbly and happy.
Would be different if during the prep process they ran a CG to build a cargo megaship which we would then have to guard/repair and guide to the sites. Instead we get magic injections of goodness from the skygods, who shall make sure this player made expedition is a success.

Which we were told about - on the official CG thread - before DW2 started. So there's that.

But anyway - ruined. Carry on! o7

You might want to edit your OP to include this bit, as I wasn't sure what your complaint was at first. Reading this, I understand and agree.

Disclaimer - I'm not part of DW2.

Hm. That station we are docked at, it's called "Omega Mining Operation", main faction being "Omega Mining Corporation". It kinda makes sense that a mining station has mining tools...
Also, that base is 6000ly from the bubble, which is not too far for being resupplied. The real journey starts after building that station at Sag A.

Do you have a link to the thread?

Also why would the organizers have made a post on mining ship builds, if they knew in advance the skygods had it covered?

Yeah, I can see that and agree with the sentiment. I suppose it's understandable that a remote mining facility would have everything stocked, but I hope that the in-progress station superstructure at Sag. A* won't. Still, even then you can just game the system by having your equipment delivered to you. I'm not sure if that's really deep space mining, because in my opinion, the point of that would be having to travel far (and back) in a mining ship, not in a lightweight explorer you can just refit into a mining ship at your destination. But apparently, even that wasn't enough.

I agree too. It's almost as though there are two factions within FD. One whose job is create brilliance, such as the sound and music department.

The other's job is to inject random awfulness into even the best ideas. Its members are drawn from people that fired up Elite once or twice a while ago, but haven't really played it for hours and hours at a time, but are nevertheless required to sit in four hour meetings with lots of coffee but no loo breaks, coming up with Good Ideas (TM) about Emergent Gameplay (TM). Those with the largest bladders get their ideas accepted.

A proposal/request for a megaship CG was made to Frontier months ago. Unfortunately it wasn't feasible with the current game mechanics so the comprise of mining to build a station was offered. I think it's terrific Frontier are making sure anyone who wants to try mining can do just that.

Also - fun fact; a megaship would have been handwavium from the skygods, as is your ship, stations, hyperspace, faster-than-lightspeed...all of it.

The idea was, that dedicated miners can choose a ship they bring and outfit the rest of it to only slap the mining stuff on it when at Omega. I also think it was somewhere in the announcements in Discord that mining tools would be available at the Omega base, which also really makes sense... I at least knew about it. I actually carry an abrasion blaster and a pulse wave scanner to support you miners in the rings, but I won't outfit my Krait Phantom with a complete mining rig. Also not really enough Cargo for that.
Also, I am not sure there will be mining tool available at Sag A before we build that station. I think there will be a CG, so there has to be at least a place to dock with large ships to turn in stuff, but I don't know how that will work.

Anyway, I carry my small mining support stuff and will get rid of it only after all the work is done.

"This CG will last one week. It will focus on mining and will require part of the fleet to consist of heavy-industry based vessels (ie. mining, refineries, and transport). The Station at WP 2 will have Outfitting available, where mining-gear can be bought or transferred to, so nobody needs to drag the gear with them. Once the expedition reaches Waypoint 2, mining locations in the area will be scouted and presented in this thread. Resource-Acquisition-Teams [RATs] will coordinate wing mining events to collect as much material as possible and deliver them to a nearby installation ([RP] whereupon it will be used to construct the station superstructure [/RP])."

So it says it will have out-fitting available, where mining gear can be bought or transfered to, so in this case just like many other stations it doesn't have some of the modules, unlike other stations the sky gods have supplied them.
Some might have prepared might have had mining gear ready to have transported here...good logic
Some might have built a ship to already be a miner....good logic
Some might wait til the sky god bring the universe down thursday morning and magic it there.

My whole point is not anger that anyone can mine now, just disappointment at the pointlessness of primary/secondary roles, and a disappointing feeling that I was part of something cool that is now obviously a scripted and pampered husk of a real journey which will not by any means fail. Literally impossible that it will fail.
