[DW2] Community Goals

Hello,

Commander BigGoat (PS4/Brazil) here. I'm very new to the game but got very excited about the DW2 Event so I have already read most instructions and guides linked here.

I still wonder if by being a new player I will be able to enjoy this as much while proving myself helpful, so I wanted to ask for some opinion. I started this game like 10 days ago, playing a couple of hours per day, and quickly learned the mining techniques which led me to a fully suited ASPX and nearly 100 millions credits which I was saving for fully equiping a Fer-De-Lance to try some bounty-hunting and PVP.

But to the be honest, a community expedition like that seems way more enjoyable then BH or PVP, so I would very much like to take part. Problem is, a part from mining I have done very little so far in this game. I never even tried and SRV, never did a BH (with kill-scans and all), never went further than ~120 LY from the bubble. So I wonder if this will be a problem.

If possible I would very much like to contribute to the mining part of the expedition. If I understood correctly, I need to pre-outfit my ship for that, so one of my questions is: what ship/build would you use if you were going to mine through the expedition (on specific waypoints, I know). I believe carrying equips for deep core mining will be very hard for me (with a 100 mil budget and no Conda). But if regular mining (lasers) are still useful for the exp, I could try for something with at least 1 Mining Laser, 1 Collector, 1 Refinery. Suggestions?

The other question is wether an engineered ship is needed for the exp. I believe I don't need one for a ~40 LY jump range ship, but maybe it's necessary with I equip the ship for mining or anything other than basic exploration. I don't believe I will have time to engineer anything (it involves ranks and so on, not only money I think). So this might be a problem.

Also I wonder wether many will take their main accounts into this because that would mean weeks without doing other things in-game, right? I only have one acc/char so taking that might not be ideal.

And last but not least, in my current situation (new player/low budget), should I just stick to Exploring and enjoying the ride, or Mining is possible for me?

Trust me. As someone who started Elite Dangerous right before DW 1, and did not participate for similar reasons, I highly recommend going. You will likely regret it for years to come.

That being said. Try to please bring at least 2 SRVs. It's amazing how fragile they are, and I have seen too many expeditions where newcomers blow an SRV at the first waypoint and have to head back.

Please come.

Plus, there wont be anyone left in the bubble during DW2 while we are gone!

I also recommend watching some you tube videos about "how to explore" tutorial. It may seem daunting at the moment. Trust me. It isn't. Once you get a grip of it, it is easy... just be careful when tired.

In a true deep-space-miner spirit, Horemakhet stands ready to haul its big bottom to wherever our services are needed, including going back to Bubble from Colonia.
(though we'll probably leave the expedition in the general direction of Colonia instead of Bubble once it's over ;) )
Just point on the map and we'll get there, no problem!

Big rig / sapper reporting for duty!

I just got my T10 after flying the T9 for many a months. Love the beast of a ship! Care to share your T10 mining build?

Colonia Deep Space Mining's representative reports for duty.
We have successfully navigated the void back from Colonia and are now within 200Ly from the staging area.

Also, along the way, that happened:

Yes, I have vastly overestimated 4A AFMS ability to repair 7A FSD, ignoring my engineering crew's advise. Last 1500 Ly was no-go for neutron scooping.
I'll listen to them next time =)

Also, as we have docked in the first station available in the bubble, we have sold exploration data and finally hit Elite in exploration - which was a cherry on top!

See you all, Commanders, at the stating point in one week!
Colonia Dees Space Mining will gladly lend its services in support of DW2. Godspeed!

Hello Friend!
I've put my setup down here for you, together with modifications currently applied :)

https://s.orbis.zone/1npi

Some elements can be changed - AFMS was purely for the sake of going back from Colonia, though it may come handy when traveling outside of inhabited space for deep space mining.
I've also put 4A sensors as for the last few days, I was mining in inhabited space so you can easily replace that with 4d to extend jump range a bit, especially when mining far from inhabited space where no enemies are likely to show.

Hope this helps :)

Hello CMDRs

Haven't been on the forums for a long while due to other things taking up my time, although I am signed on to DW2 and have been since many months ago.

Presently making my way back from a mini exped of my own in a new build Krait MII and should hit dock tomorrow to turn in my data.

One of my Class 6 slots has a 64T cargo rack, which I was thinking of ditching, but now I'm reading about the mining CGs this morning, which I didn't know was a thing until today, I'm considering my options on the DW2 expedition.

Perhaps I should volunteer to be a ferry-boat during the CGs? Thing is that I didn't want to take weapons or mining gear that would decrease my hard-won 54Ly range (with G5 boost).

Please help me decide what I should do with the cargo rack and any other build tips that might prove beneficial for the cooperative teamwork of the mining CGs...

Buy whatever mining gear you want and store it, then transfer it to the CG station. That should be possible at least for CG1/WP2, CG2/WP7 is currently unknown.

But yes, there are also specific roles in group mining for trransporters (and miners, sappers or refiners), e.g. ferry limpets to the miners and take back the refined ores. If you don't want to carry guns, you might also equip your Krait with mining tools and be ready to fire them on command. Wing mining means that you only need to bring the tools for one part of the process, the T-10 next to you then can do the collecting and processing.

Thanks for that - are we certain that we'll be able to store + transfer gear to the stations nearby the CG locations? If so, that's probably a winner...

But having never done any mining since year 3301, I'm not sure what I'd need and certainly haven't touched the improved mining equipment and mechanics...

Maybe left it a bit late to find out???

For the first CG, yes. At least that's what the organizers say :). After all, you'll need a base to sell the mined stuff to.

As for what you need to bring - I suggest you connect yourself to the Fleetcomm discord (and assign yourself the Distant Worlds 2 role) for a lot more experienced people. Currently, the opinion goes to bring everything, as we don't know what will be required for the mining CG - or what would be available for sale at the CG base.

Cheers John! Looking forward to seeing the T10 out of the bubble

You're welcome!
Also, forgot to add: with the presented setup, heat is not an issue. You can sit comfortably at the 1245 kg/s zone around a star, throttle to 0, with heat almost never exceeding 58%, and only rarely going up to 60%. Type 10 is an absolute beast, though I don't suppose its creators thought of mining rig as its intended purpose. Oh, the beauty of equipping ships in ED :D

EDIT: I didn't notice I've put wrong cargo rack in the Coriolis site - now updated with proper 256 tons.

Since this is my first super long range trip outside the bubble, do we have an idea of the longest jumps required to get to Sag A*? I know the 33-34 LY at Beagle point... I'm asking because I'd like to know if I need to gather a ton of Polonium prior to leaving the bubble. SRV mining Polonium take forever.

You can reach SagA with a very low jumprange (17-18 ly) if you follow the galactic-arm to the conflux and then turn right towards the core. Just do not try to take the direct route. The exact route of the DW expedition is not known yet, but judging from DW 1 the first real obstacle was the Abyss. What is your jumprange by the way?

For Polonium: find a planet with Polonium and a healthy number of geological and/or biological sites and go harvesting. But you only need that for the 100% boosts.
Or post your loadout - there is still time to either unlock Felicity or get the Guardian booster. Even both.

I will happily keep a laser or two on my Asp as well as the refinery and 8ton cargo option so I can at least drop off some myself when I'm in lazy mode.

So whats the goal of CG1? I read somewhere that its to build the initial super structure for the SAG A* station that will then get transported to WP7 via in game magic. Will the outfitting for CG1 be available at this super structure or somewhere else near by? If the outfitting is on the station itself would it make sense to assume that if we transfer over a bunch of modules to the station that they would get carried to WP7 with it?

I want to participate in mining at CG2 but since we dont know if outfitting will be available there before the station is complete i dont want to be stuck in a mining build traveling between WP2 and 7.

I just hope we will be told, on completion of CG1, whether we will have outfitting within range at CG2. Otherwise, yes, we'l have to fly the mining builds all the way. That may strongly encourage wing mining - small ships for scanning and prospecting, medium for mining tools and the large ships with collectors and refineries.

Outfitting at a location near to CG1, so almost certainly one of the station on the Colonia Connection Highway.
If you look at what's already been said about it - less than 6000 LY out, in a roughly core-ward direction, has Outfitting - there is exactly one possibility, unless Frontier add outfitting to a station which doesn't currently have it.
