[DW2] Community Goals

In slightly more detail:

To store a module, when in outfitting, click on it and then go to one of the options given to "Store"
To transfer a module, go to the destination station, go to outfitting, then Stored Modules at the bottom, and then you can find it and click on it and "Transfer to this station" for a fee, and time.

You can transfer modules while docked to a station. Go to Outfitting and choose the option "Transfer" that is offered there. It will however only work, if you have gear stored somewhere. You'll have to do that before going on the expedition.

Shows you what I know. I didn't realize that worked between two different stations, I thought each station's storage was unique.

Dr Kaii just posted on the fleetcomm discord that he is 98% sure that outfitting will be available at the core, and that you will be able to buy all mining related modules. Hes just waiting on official word. Looks like we wont have to worry about the journey from WP2-7.

And also the journey afterwards, I would think. I've been playing around with builds and there's really only two ships with enough unrestricted internal slots to both function as a full mining ship and carry the necessary tools (like SRVs and AFMUs) for an extended expedition. I would hate for it to wind up a binary choice of *either* participate in the mining CG at the core (and then turn back), *or* continue on with the rest of the expedition.

Over the distances involved in DW2, the transfer time will be significant - approximately 12 hours to WP2, and probably 72 hours to WP7 (or 60ish for things already stored at WP2). You'll need to plan ahead.

It'll also cost you a significant fraction of the module cost for WP2, and quite a bit more than the module costs for WP7 - if you can buy it locally, you should.

That would be my guess. Rohini is too far out, the Crescent Nebula is in the wrong direction, and nowhere else between Rohini and Quince has outfitting.

In the spirit of speculation, don't forget that megaships can have outfitting too. While someplace like Omega or Rohini is an obvious pick, I think it'd be fun if the CG was at a megaship that popped up in one of the still-blueish parts of the galaxy heat map.

(...)
I want to participate in mining at CG2 but since we dont know if outfitting will be available there before the station is complete i dont want to be stuck in a mining build traveling between WP2 and 7.

You bubble-softened space dust! Don't you know the REAL way of deep space mining?!
All gear on-board for the travel, including mining gear, masseuses, jacuzzi, champagne and library of decade's best movies.
It's called "big rig" for a reason - my Type 10 even has dedicated home theater room, just need to unbolt commander's seat and move it down the left corridor somewhat.
What, you thought all we do in deep space - thousands of light years from the nearest toilet - is sit in the cockpit? HELL NO!

Self-sufficiency FTW!

PS: That whole post is of course a joke ;) Hope you like it, cause there ain't no mining without throwing few of these around, oi.

I presume limpets will be available from the station at CG2 so dedicated limpet synthesis mat collector ships are not needed?

Is there an ideal size to be considered a Big Rig? Since I'll be able to transfer gear, I can change my Anaconda over to a fully autonomous mining platform that can haul 352T of cargo. I'm hoping we'll be mining in the CG system or at least 1 jump away. Fully loaded, this pig can cover a total of 155ly.

Also, since the second CG is used to complete the station, will we be able to dock in it before it's done for module transfer, or will there be something like a temp station for that?

For the second CG the station will be there, freshly built, but with only Commodities, Outfitting and Restock / Repairs available. So limpets can be bought at both CG locations. Synthesis of limpets is costly and hardly able to keep up with the needs of mining.
Regarding Megaship: the CG won't be at a megaship due to technical reasons.

Oh, and one other silly question,,,,, what’s Bucky balling back mean?
Named after the Buckyball Racing Club who's chequered flag holo-ad you may have seen at various stations around the galaxy ("there's fast ... and then there's Buckyball"), a player run in-game group who have been organising time trial races since early beta in one form or another. Check out www.buckyballracing.org.uk for more info'. We should have a new race starting this weekend and also have a number of standing challenges including the Pomeche Ridge challenge linked in my signature.

Word to the wise: I’ve heard from folks who already made it to omega that mining equipment is not available there, other than a 1E refinery. Make sure you get there a day or so early to have your mining gear shipped!
