In-Development E.D.I.S.O.N - Orbital and surface navigation / Waypoints

I'm having an issue getting the OCR setup.

After I take the picture (using F10 or ShareX) the Image processing window pops up.
My screenshot is too big for the "Select HUD region" window, so I am unable to use the Vertical/Horizontal Offsets. (I have them Maxed out)

When I select "4k downscaling" the screenshot fits the window, but I still can not get the OCR regions into the correct positions using the offsets.
And I get a Screenshot resolution too low! Warning.

I'm really looking forward to trying this out.

If I understand correctly EDISON takes a screenshot (I think manual or can be set on a repeat cycle) and performs OCR in the areas you define for your particular screen in order to extract the lat/long/altitude data. You can set it to delete this screenshot automatically, but what happens if you actually want to take a meaningful screenshot while running it to support a planetary search? It would be nice if you could set EDISON running automatically with it deleting those shots but if a manual F10 screenshot is taken it would be saved (perhaps in a different folder that could then work with ScreenShot Server, LCU’s EDMC plugin, EDD etc). Should be easy (I would have thought) to set it to do this and also follow a set of say 10, 20, or 30 waypoints with an announcement when you reach each one before it then starts to guide you to the next.

The only thing I can think would be better to support surface search than that would be if it also marked a broad (width definable by some agreed parameters based on height & speed) ship’s track on a planetary map that could be used to check that all areas had been searched, and maybe by how many commanders to ensure no errors.

I live in hope that FD will finally after 3 years, finally give us some decent surface exploration support tools but I’m not holding my breath & in the meantime EDISON seems to be almost at the point of being really excellent, perhaps with just a little more polishing? Please?? The screenshot and waypoints suggestions above would be a big improvement and really useful.

Hello, and thank you for your work.
I hope the Google translation is going to be right.

I installed your application, but I have a problem with the automatic mode:
I play on a portable multi-screen (3 screens) in windowed mode without border
My game screen is number 2

When setting (F10 capture) everything went well that captures the game window
On the other hand, when I use the automatic capture mode it captures the screen number 1 and not the game window (screen 2).
I have read in translated version your different helpers and different posts on the forums,
but my old men have not found this problem anywhere.
Is there a solution that will allow me to use your beautiful tools.

In advance thank you for your answer.

Good evening,
Thank you for your reply.
But I do not understand the meaning of the translation "Could take a while please bear with me."

the translation gives something like this ...

I do not think what you meant!,
I am sorry .

I installed EDISON and got it working on my 4k display. Had problems until I actually watched the explanation video (I’m a man, who reads instructions?) at half speed so I could see what to do, i.e. set the check box for 4k downscaling, get the first OCR tab box set up for the vertical bar on screen etc. I didn’t like having to set the screen brightness to full as stated -far too distracting- so I set it to low as I usually do and used the click-on-screen function to pick up the colour to be recognised (I use MadDogMurdoch’s blue-red HUD colour scheme for ice planets) from the exact middle of the character stroke (it enlarges to allow this).

EDISON is very useful but it has two disadvantages-it relies on the hud coordinates being in the same place on-screen every time it tries to access them, which is not the case when you’re looking out the windows searching the planet surface for PPOI & so I don’t think it would be very useful if you use head tracker. The second is that it would be really useful to provide for an extra keyboard combination to capture the current coordinates as a waypoint that is added to the waypoint list.

Apparently under v3.0 the journal file is to be augmented by a status.json periodic output that will have lat/long, altitude, heading etc- doing away with the need for screenshots & OCR to grab the coordinates off-screen.

hmm..overlays are sort of useless in VR. Are the indicators available in the normal Gui? this i could get via tools in the vr environment .

The information is available in the normal gui, its kinda large though. Edison has speech output though (like "Fly left, heading 1 2 0. Distance to target 2200 kilometers.").

Going to try this out, it looks very interesting.

I have been playing on and off since betas of the game and only ever used slopey's tool and haven't kept it up to date but went to Davs Hope for the first time this week in my first planet exploration ever and had a hell of a time finding the settlement so this is something I really see myself using a whole lot!

Thanks!
