E3 2015 speculations for Elite

I thought the E3 would be the Xbox One debut, and showing off Powerplay. Can't imagine there'll be any other significant announcement for the base game.

Pretty much and possibly what might be in 1.4. We may get some inkling of what will be in the first expansion by the end of the year, but I don't expect a full release until late 2016 now based on the rate of progress we've seen so far.

They've announced a new IP, dunno what it is. Maybe a pure VR experience? I couldn't say but I doubt they will be releasing a game on the magnitude of Elite: Dangerous.

Presumably the new roller coaster game they have already talked about. They should be able to show something of it at E3.

I would expect the E: D 'announcement' to be about 1.4. Largely because I don't think the first paid expansion is that immenent - I would expect that, say, around March or April next year.

Walking around ships, and galactic toasters to feed our hungry pilots.

I'm betting that update 2.0 will be the first paid expansion, and seeing that we're on the cusp of 1.3 I doubt the next few updates will be planetary landing or the other large updates.

Also anyone know when they are gonna start charging for expansions ?
They have always been going to charge for expansions. Nothing has changed. It is just that we have not had any expansions yet. As for when the first expansion will arrive: that has not been announced, so all we can do is speculate. As usual. I suspect the first will be fairly early next year.

My personal prediction: Walking around on ships + boarding announced. This will be included in the Xbox version for free (£49.99), whereas PC gamers will have to pay for it (£9.99). There will be much wailing on the forums! :D

Really ? I wait 20 years for a proper space dogfight sim and you want to remove space from it ?
Why ?

Planets are part of "space" if you didn't know...they aren't something separate from it. ;)

Why? Because the previous version of the game (Frontier/FFE) had it and it is something a lot of people have been waiting for for a long time. There is a reason why games like No Man's Sky have been hyped so much...

I'd assume FD wants to have something ready to sell us come the holiday season. A first paid expansion exactly one year after the release of 1.0 would be my bet.

E3 is a large exhibition. (The largest for computer games?). I definitely expect more than the annunciation of "just" another update (1.4).
The time-frame fits the usual six month between annunciation and actual launch as well as the common one year gap between vanilla game launch and first expansion.

The add-on will feature walkable ships and related gameplay.

Until then, we will see one more free update in august or september, possibly enhancing the new mission system (including passenger transport and related equipment) and (finally!) introducing Thargoids.

This is, what I see in my crystal ball...

Well, even a very minute sneak peek would be better than nothing! :)

As for the 1st expansion, I would agree that planetary landings would be perfect, but I have my reservations about this coming out before the end of 2015.

2017-2018 sounds more realistic.

My thoughts are that there will be a trailer for Power Play at E3, along with a ton of stuff about the XBox. They will also announce support for the HTV Vive. There may be a few more small things - but I reckon it's way too early to hear anything about expansions just yet. :)
