ED and the Oculus Rift Developers Kit 2 (DK2) Discussion Thread

Even in driver 14.4 I get the BSOD on RiftEnabler.sys.

The trick is to put the Rift into Direct Mode, then turn it OFF. Then change your Crossfire settings. You do sometimes get the BSOD again, but providing when you reboot your Rift is still off, you can then change the setting.

After that, set everything back to how it needs to be for Elite (Extended mode).

Bit of a faff, but it works.

Ah ok I'll remember to do that, thanks very much.

I just wish frontier would fix the system map issue with the rift. Without a working system Map there is no way to explore or see what is in system before jumping

Goes yellow. Waits for life changing experience.

Just to backup what others have said. This game and the Oculus Rift seem made for each other. Frontier Developments and Oculus, with help from Amd, Nvidia and Intel, could make Elite: Dangerous the game for VR.
Every new platform needs a killer application. I think Elite: Dangerous is it.

VR. Make it spacey.

Congrats.

I totally agree with everyone that this is an amazing rift demonstration. I'd add Microsoft to your list of interested parties. I think a lot of PC gamer's know that the PC is the platform for in depth games but sometimes it seems the business power of consoles pushes that to one side. The flexibility that the PC gives us to experiment with peripherals and upgrade hardware makes amazing things possible. Elite: Dangerous has just turned a bright spotlight on that.

It's encouraging to see people who ordered 2 weeks before me are now getting deliveries! Xmas is definitely coming early this year! :D

I've been confirmed next batch :D Just so my expectations are set, for those that have already been through this process how long on average does it take once shipped to arrive? I'm in the UK

I guess I will have to pay import duty too?

Thanks in advance

well. sad to say, but I tried all advice ..and still the same blurry-ness....

no stutter , all smooth but very blurry.
I tried update firm ware

http://www.roadtovr.com/how-to-update-oculus-rift-dk2-firmware/

the nividea setting
and in rift settings.. still the same..
I tried landing . but was so blurry I couldn't judge my height ?

any advice on a direction to try .. most welcome.

if you see a sidewinder hanging around out side a station.. that will be me fiddling with settings.. come over and hoover in front . so I can use you as a
guide for close up visuals...... :)

I got a mic too so have a chat.........

Cmdr Christina Jade....:S

More than likely you have a fairly narrow IPD and aren't looking through the lens centers so everything looks blurry. Women usually have smaller heads so their IPD is normally smaller. I have a IPD of 55mm so without some modding my rift was useless. Anyhow here's a whole post i made that tells you how you can fix this:

Cheers!

3 working days since you receive the UPS tracking number and, no, they send it from UK so no import fees or taxes

You already paid the 20% "sales tax" which is actually our VAT required as it ships from the UK.

FPS Difference between Open/ Solo & Training Missions

Hi

Well like most I experienced a fair bit of judder with my DK2 when Beta 2 arrived. The FPS was under 75 and no mater what I did I could not get to a decent level so I purchased a GTX 970 (really had to twist my arm for that ;) )

Installed the new card , launched ED and lowered all the graphic settings and then promptly launched the first tutorial on how to dock. The fps stayed constantly at 75fps in and out of the space station. I tried the same test again in the target practice tutorial and all the flying around the asteroids the fps stayed at 75, I was very pleased.

Now as soon as play open or solo the fps starts to drop in the space stations and the asteroid fields to around 55fps??? Whats that all about, has any body experienced the same?

Hi mate, as mentioned shipped from the UK. Because you are also UK it should arrive next day (I got the despatch email from UPS yesterday and arrived 10 am this morning). No import duty. :)

Tutorials have higher fps due to being offline. Turn off aa as it makes no difference when wearing rift. Turn down shadows then if you need to. Truth is vr is hard on most cards.

So my ED is now working all flicker free! thanks for everyones advise on this.

Only small issue I have no is, when I turn my head theres a small bit of lag. Looking ahead and moving the ship about its bloody lovely, but moving my head not so much.

K2 today, lots of reading but I'm not sure if it's general consensus that the red dots around the text and the blur on everything in space is normal or not - I've got it running, tried aa on and off and all that, still got major blur and dots all around the text.

2d-VR-Mode?

Good Evening!

I love Elite with the DK2! It's the best game I ever played! But I'm always trying to make the experience better! I'm also using VORPX for other games and there I have the possibility to turn of 3d for better performance! I am not able to see 3d with my Eyes, because they aren't working together. Question: Is it possible to turn of 3d rendering? So maybe just put out the same picture for both eyes? Then I can max out and downsample my game!

In my experience, there is a noticeable difference with SMAA on & off on the Rift.

I tend to disable bloom, blur & ambient occlusion, but turn SMAA on. FXAA works too, but blurs the crap out of things, MSAA also technically "works" but I notice a lot of wacky looking artifacts using it.

I don't think so, because E: D is a 3D game - and the Rift support is also 3D. The reason VorpX offers that option is because it is forcing the 3D separation on games that weren't designed for the Oculus as a post-processing mode, and that requires processing grunt that you might want to reclaim for frame rates instead.

E: D is 3D all the way. :)
