ED and the Oculus Rift Developers Kit 2 (DK2) Discussion Thread

I can't make it work.
I have shut down servicies, but the DK2 screen stay dark.
Nothing happen, I only can see the game on my monitor. The tracking of the rift work, but I can't switch the screen to the DK2.
I have an ATI.

In the graphics options you can select the monitor to render to. It defaults to PRIMARY and you need to select SECONDARY.

If you don't have that option, chances are you forgot to switch the DK2 into extended mode before you killed the processes.

Guessing a bit here, but what can happen is that ED doesn't capture the mouse so you can click on an option in the ED menus and accidentally minimise your game. It may just be on your task bar waiting to be returned to.

Other than that, I'm just not sure.

using the mouse with the rift is asking for trouble at the moment.

what does wscrip do? I don't have it in the task manager. It's probably okay since the action is to close the process.

wscript is a vb script runner that checks if the OVRService_64.exe service is running and restarts it if it stops. The reason you need to kill it is so that you don't just keep getting the OVRservice exe turn up again.

I think I read that you can't see it in the default list in windows 8.1, though I've no idea where it might be. Try the users tab and expand your own list?

Anyone here checked the Oculus Mode with a GTX780 OC Card and if it is possible to get 75 FPS with it?

I want to buy such a Card next Month.

Ok I just checked again for you Balmung. I used Fraps and had the card in OC mode. I'm averaging 70fps inside and around Aulin Enterprise. All settings are on maximum. Looks like I need to do some tweaking in order to have low persistence working at all times.

Can anyone advise which settings to reduce in order to save a few frames without having to big an impact on visuals? Should I be setting anything in Nvidia control panel or let the game settings look after things?

Love it, but I can't seem to get rid of the judder when looking around, FPS are stable, and even when going into the lowest graphical settings it's still there.

Have tried everything, Areo is turned off, all the correct 75Hz/v-sync/ect. settings.

Also my keyboard/mouse stops being recognized by the game after launching on the rift, even my voice attack bindings stop working...weird.

Didn't have a ton of time last night to tweak/play with settings that much, hoping tonight I can find solutions for my two issues.

If I can just get that Judder gone, then I'll be in heaven.

SO recieved my unit today, raced home and grabbed the guides posted here.
Finally got picture trough, but no tracking of any kind.
As soon as i close OVRservice, the config utility greys out.
Also closed 2 services suspected to mess up tracking Lcore (logitech) and the wireless Xbox service.
Succeded in getting a static picture without tracking.

Guess i'll have to play monitor for a while longer until proper updates to ED and the ORruntime have been polished a bit more.
Usually i have no problems with tech stuff,
but this have a few gremlins build in.
Checked everything a dosen times and cant really see what else to do.

how does one see fps while in rift mode?

Anyone else sometimes get the game rendering incorrectly in rift mode? On a few occasions I've had an issue where the blacks are not rendering properly and I have a grey colour cast appearing. It is not the DK2 black issue. Most of the time all is fine. When it happens I've to exit and reload. Weird! I'm not sure if this is rift specific.

Hmmm. Got mine to work eventually - constantly having to do system restores after using the Rift though, this is majorly annoying but PC goes into a reboot loop if I don't!

As for ED, it's going to be great when it, and my PC, are more advanced! My i7-920@4GHz and AMD7950 are not up to the task and it's just too juddery. Mind you, I think there are multiple judders for me... if I just sit still, I get occasional little "blips" where my view goes forward and back maybe 10cm (equiv) quite quickly.

No real WOW moments so far - I think I had my VR OMG moment with DK1 but DK2 is definitely a hell of a lot better. No smearing, higher res (still too low though), and positional tracking is just too cool - standing up and looking out over the "bonnet" of your ship, etc.

Hopefully when ED moves to direct mode things will get better on my rig but basically I think it's just too slow.

Did you set colour to win basic?

Yeah baby, IT'S alive.
Finally closed the config and then the services.
In a last attempt and try.
And it worked.

Awestruck that the sidewinder cockpit is so large and so detailed.
Was looking around and wanted to see some details below my right
arm, and was fooled a sec when it did not move as i did.

The only problem i see, is that i have to buy a silk scarf or my neck is getting
rubbed red by my clothing.

Average frame rate tonight of 65 fps in the station with everything maxed out... Didn't get higher than 78 fps... Ouch!

That's with an i7 4770k OC'd and a 780 ti OC'd !

Edit: latest average ... 74 fps
