ED and the Oculus Rift Developers Kit 2 (DK2) Discussion Thread

Hi guys...I bought ED beta yesterday just for the Oculus Rift and even just 10 minutes of messing around I'm glad I did :)
Now I'm just hoping we get an update soon

I hope the update addresses the SSE4.1 issue or at least that F12 is not working somehow.

Compiling E: D against the most recent SDK should resolve that issue.
If the next release isn't compiled against the most recent SDK I'll be surprised (and disappointed).
When the next release will be is another story though, I don't expect it for at least a couple of weeks or so. Happy to be wrong if it's sooner.

F12 works fine for me - I just have somewhat unreliable positional tracking in ED - sometimes it works just fine for hours, sometimes it completely loses positional tracking after minutes (directional tracking still works and in that case F12 doesn't work anymore) - sometimes it it flickers on and off and jumps.

No idea what's causing the issue - it works perfectly reliable in any other demo or game I tried except for the 'my neighbor Totoro' demo, where I have to move far closer to the camera for it to even detect the rift at all (doesn't help in ED though).

It doesn't stop me from playing for hours and hours as I usually get a stable session eventually, but I hope it's fixed in the next release.

HEY GUYS

This game is great. Oculus Rift is great. Everything is great :D

Ditto on the tracking flipping out now and then, and my Radeon HD 6950 can't keep up in the stations in oculus rift mode (in 2D mode it handles it absolutely no problem). Hopefully they optimise the 3d rendering, or at least implement the time-warp stuff in the rift SDK!

Also, this game is hard! I was very sad yesterday when I dropped into a combat zone... and an Eranin carrier popped in RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME and I crashed with no chance to avoid collision :(

How taking off the DK2 feels...

Vb1rrGy.jpg

Never tried the Oculus Rift so far..read alot about it, it must be great (with Ed and other games too).
But at the moment I think, it's better that I don't own a DK2 :D I guess I would get addicted to it.

Please no! we'll be talking ED fashion next ;) (I agree though, it's like a 1967 Shelby Cobra vs a 2014 Cobra Mk III) ;)

Ha as a matter of fact I hope we have a chance to suit up our character because the pseudo ninja muscle skin we're shown flying in isn't what I had in mind.

I really hope the US (and other nations') space programs come back to public favor. Space programs generate a lot of technology for the ordinary person too.

^^ THIS ^^
Though, I hope that FD concentrates on ships and gameplay rather than avatar fashion.

...
...

Then again... hmmmmmm :D

Tang, for example.

Tang as in the orange powder drink? I learned something new today.

Sadly people, as time goes on, have a tendency to think smaller and more self centered and consequently have lost touch with the bigger picture side of things.

That's why most Space programs are a shadow of what they used to be, because too many think of it as a complete waste of time, money and effort. Tell you what though if NASA announced tomorrow that an asteroid/blackhole/neutron star/ worldsbiggestjustinbieberCDdepot was hurtling toward Earth at ludicrous speed and we would only have a couple of years for it they wouldn't think that way anymore would they?

Waiting for the CV1 is a true test of my character.

Anyway, here's what I've always hoped would be my "flight suit."
The early Battlestar Galactica leather suits were pretty sweet too... not much use in a vacuum, but pretty comfortable in a pressurized ship or landing on a habitable planet.

I fired off the Tang reference as short-sighted joke... quickly Goggled it and realized (and corrected) my mistake.

I whole-heartedly support space science, science fiction, video games and related tech and the like.

Look at the suit in the OP. Amazing piece of technology.
