ED and the Oculus Rift Developers Kit 2 (DK2) Discussion Thread

I know it isn't very RAM effecient, since it's only 32bit.

Since the LAA (Large Address Aware) flag of EliteDangerous32.exe is set it can address up to 2^32 Byte = 4 GiB of virtual address space on a 64 Bit Windows. This should be enough for most current situations.

Efficiency comes with how you deal with the available memory not how much there is actually available ;)

Have you tried downsampling from 2560x1440?
I'm curious if 680 sli will be enough with a couple of settings turned down a bit, shadows... And maybe ao

No - haven't tried yet as I doubt my rig would handle it (it's over 2.5 years old) and I don't have trouble reading the text.

From the benchmark results, I can see it dips into 72 frames in station, so I really doubt it would handle it (especially given the low vram of the cards).

Had my first experience with the washed out colors issue yesterday after playing around with my PC and the DK2. Turns out if I disable legacy support (DK1) my colors go all washed out, turn it back on and colors are beautiful. May help some of you, did for me.

Makes me laugh the DK2's on EBay for over £500; after the CV1 is released it will be a curiousity much like the black & white TV's in the Science Museum.

Got my fingers crossed I get an email soon. I ordered 6 days after Mark D. :S
New PC arrives in the morning.
Would be the best weekend ever if it did come this week.
I would be 15 again, go away I don't need food I'm busy,

Edit:- Just been on my oculus sales page and it says still awaiting inventory

GTX980 is £500 soon be obsolete, that my friend is technology, a couple of years after CV1 people will be calling that obsolete.

just some quick figures for those who are interested. Ive just upgraded to a 680 sli setup after having a single card. All fps measurements are given from the start of tutorial 2 - the asteroid field. All settings on high
single 680 - 70fps.
680 sli - 130 fps.
single 680 + DK2 - 44 fps.
680 SLI + DK2 - 75 fps (hitting the rifts refresh rate).
Edit: I supersampled from 2560x1440p and could keep it at 75 fps with aa, ao and shadows turned off

The funny thing is DK1s are still going on ebay for not far off £200 last time i looked...... Assuming I can get in v early on a CV1 pre-order, I am hopeful I will be able to get a 3 figure sum for my DK2 when the time comes.

The DK2 is brilliant, and has given me plently of enjoyment already, but I have no sentimentality when it comes to that device. as soon as i can do better, it is getting sold :)
