ED Astrometrics: Maps and Visualizations

Added mouse-over coordinates to the Google Maps version of the heatmaps:

They're probably not 100% accurate, but should be a good approximation. It's relying on the API's way of converting Mercator projection Lat/Long coordinates, so there's probably some precision loss converting back to Cartesian coordinates on a flat map.

I increased the resolution of the large version of the star class heatmap, so that it has the 10ly resolution of some of the other large maps. This also allowed me to include it as another layer in the google maps Galaxy Map.

I also fixed an issue with setting a length limit, in the video creator. It was cutting people off before it should, when trying to make really long videos. It will now permit about 20 minutes of video, with whatever playback speed (jumps per frame) setting.

How do i exclude my alt cmdrs journals from the visualization video?

Huh, that's an interesting question. Each time you log in with a different commander, it'll start a fresh journal, so you'd need a way of telling them apart before uploading. Right now I don't have anything built to do that automatically. I could put some thought into adding an optional filter for that, or something.

OK, that was easier than I thought. When it takes you to the settings screen, I added a "skip" option in the color selections.

Nice, thanks a lot! Have to go and test it right away. :)

EDIT: Works like a charm:

I had forgotten just how amazing this tool is - having tried it once some time ago.
I have just created my journeys so far in 2018 - it looks like a demented ant that has lost it's way
If I can I will edit it down and upload it somewhere.

Can't give you any more reps, but thanks for all your hard work, Commander [yesnod]

I've also now added side-views into the large heatmaps, which means they're also now included in the interactive google maps version.

I've now added POI markers to the interactive google maps thing. It's not meant to be an exhaustive list, or a replacement for EDSM's POIs, or anything like that. It helps add context to the "hot spots" on the map, primarily for locations of deep space outposts and asteroid bases, and major points of interest.

I've added to the POI list on the interactive map, and color-coded a bunch of the pushpins. I tried to make the deep space outpost pins show what to expect, between planetary bases, asteroid bases, and full starports.

I also upgraded the hardware on the server that generates all of the maps. Whew. I needed the extra RAM. Things were getting a bit tight there. While this doesn't really matter to any of you, it pleases me to no end that the new server also runs the scripts more than twice as quickly too. :D

Updated the ship templates for 3.3. I suspect the beta information for the Mamba and Krait Phantom aren't accurate on the beta Corilois, so I'll update them again later, as needed.

I also added the actual FSD and max scoop sizes to the table, as well as an estimation of scooping time per jump. While I think the actual scooping rates won't matter as much in the new exploration system, it's still an important factor for a lot of explorers. It's nice to have a sortable column for this.

And now, with marx's permission, I've added supercruise turn rates to the ship template table. It's now a lot easier to compare ships at a glance, for exploration purposes.

Love the latest additions to your site. Just one thing... I asked around 8mo ago if you'd be able to do a high rez picture of the latest heat map for download and you very graciously provided (I like using it as my desktop).

Well, I was wondering if you might be able to do so again so I can update my background pic with the last 8mo worth of data? =)
