The BAFTAs didn't fail - they're an annual success
For what? Slowest evolving game still in "development"? What a joke!
They did really well coming in second to a massmarket game given ED is pretty niche and was released five years ago. Its like Eddie the Eagle Edwards coming out of retirement and getting a silver medal.
If ED was nominated for:
1. Most exploiting its loyal fans;
2. Least reinvested money from the game into the same game;
3. Worst communication level between the development team and the game community;
4. The game with most promised and least delivered features;
5. Slowest bug fixing ever seen in game history;
I would vote for it.

I would have thought NMS should be considered more likely to get the award too?

I'm not sure we'll get both, here's hoping though. Wait and see based on past performance whatever we get I'll enjoy it and get many hours of space-ship related fun out of it.
In fairness;
Over the past year (or the year in relation to the award), Elite Dangerous provided us with what?
A complete mess with the Gnosis fiasco
A new (some would say) improved exploration mechanic
A new and absolutely improved mining mechanic
A complete mess of a deployment of the above (literally hundreds of bug reports within days of the release, while the company felt it was better served going on holidays)
A rollback on what it was going to deliver, even after live streams
Some new ships, but more copy/paste than new
Lots and lots and lots of pay to keep paint jobs

I personally think they have come a long way. We all know what I want with the open only stuff.
But they have really improved from where it started with a lot of other things, Especially over the past couple of years. Its a shame people cant see or understand the evolution of the game over the years and why.
When Fdev grows, Elite will grow with it.
This game has a lot of longevity. 10 year plan? More like 25 with the way hardware and technology is becoming more available to us and them.
I'll still give them some crap over certain decisions, as will any of us. But this thread sucks to read haha.

Well, i'm pretty sure that the people that will be traveling aboard Gnosis to unattainable places otherwise, will beg to differ
Same goes for people that are exclusively playing and enjoying Colonia
Or the ones that are defending the humanity against Thargoids
Not to mention the guardian FSD booster - my vette now can jump 28ly in a combat outfit - and the rest of the guardian trinkets that makes life easier for the random Commander or miserable for the random Tharg.
E: D is a sandbox, you can make anything out of it and it may be possible that for you specifically none of the changes mean nothing, but they mean a lot for many of others.
No wonder the actual state of the game...
