I had my suspicion when they decided to focus on Odyssey development primarily for pc and postpone console development.
Odyssey is obviously going over their heads, they even struggle with the pc version.
Even if they come up with a full account transfer from console to pc I wouldn't buy another copy.
Fdev is obviously not competent enough to do what other developers do, I'm talking about a lot smaller developers too.
I recently got my Series X, no way in the world would I ever buy a pc just to play ED Odyssey, ugh and then find out a year later that development will be canceled as a whole maybe?
I love NMS although it's quite different and am looking forward to Starfield!!
Frontier was my hero when they came up with ED, how low have they fallen, what a disappointment they are.
If you can look beyond the disappointment salt factor for the moment:
To be fair, SE has Newtonian physics and semi realistic graphics. But lacks a true proc gen universe. Both NMS and EGS have proc gen universes. But are no where close in graphical realism like ED (or X4 to a good extent).
SC is the only ultra realistic space sim. Yet sadly appears to be indefinitely suffering from arrested development in alpha/pre alpha purgatory to date. And lacks a proc gen universe ED/NMS/EGS have. And additionally, the realism of a Newtonian physics mechanic that ED/SE have
All other space games like KSP etc. vary within range of these popular titles. However
The fact they finally came out and officially indicated this gen ED has reached its operational capability (from game engine? server? dev team? limitations) is commendable. They haven't tried gas lighting the fan base by peeing on its leg and insist that it's raining. This sort of accountability and honesty is much appreciated and actually refreshing for a change.
The fact FDev was at least able to add landable planets, space legs and upcoming FC interiors was a vast evolution from where the game started at release.
So IMO, ED appears to be the best rounded space sim. No other dev on the market has a stable/functional and Newtonian Physics realistic working simulation of the Milky Way galaxy like FDev to date. And it appears this gen iteration of the franchise is as good as it's going to get...
