ED Running successfully under Steam Play on Ubuntu Linux 18.04.2 with GTX 1050Ti

After a multi-night hair pulling blitz, I'm happy to report that I now have Elite running on Ubuntu Linux 18.04.2 under Steam with RedMcG's Proton build. My system specs:

Intel i7 5770 @4GHz
MSI Gaming MB
Nvidia GTX 1050Ti
32GB DDR3 1600 RAM
500GB Samsung EVO 650 SSD

Ubuntu 18.04.2 Minimal install
Latest Steam for Linux
RedMcG's Proton build
Nvidia Driver 415.27

The secret that I uncovered was to make sure that you have installed RedMcG's proton and set it as the default for all games under Steam Play settings BEFORE you install Elite Dangerous.

My next mission is HOTAS mapping because the default mapping for the Thrustmaster T.Flight has port lateral thrust on all the time when I launch and I end up in the rebuy club AND at a penal colony for crashing in the station :(. Good thing I bought a Sidewinder to experiment with [cool] !

When you get it working with the Rift too, then I may be interested myself. :) I spend more time arguing with Windows these days than it being useful...

Because I've always had trouble updating drivers if not done the "debian way", I'll have to wait for those drivers to hit backports before I can do this.

Nice, I think Ima drop KDE and go for a clean Ubuntu, just having freezes and issues on KDE. :D

Anyone got experience with AMD hardware and ED?

I got some issues.
I run in a laptop, a Clevo with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 Mobile (Optimus 😟) and I can't initialize the game on dedicated gpu! I was able to start Elite Dangerous, but not Horizons (Get stuck when generating planetary shades, or something like!).
When I start the game (ED) I can see it's runing on the Intel integrated card.
Someone get any ideas?
Thanks.
My config is:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700HQ CPU @ 2.80GHz
Clevo P95_HP
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 Mobile
32GB DDR4 2400 RAM
1TB Samsung EVO 850 SSD

Fedora 30 Workstation
Latest Steam for Linux
Steam's Proton build 4.2.2
Nvidia Driver 418.56 (With bumblebee)
