ED & SweetFX - Screenshots and DL link

Everytime I look at comparison pictures the only change I see is more contrast and overbloom, which also softens everything. Not sure if I like that more than vanilla. It certainly glows more.

I often find today's games to severely lack contrast, and ED is no different. The best thing with post process injectors is that you can customize your look, at least to a certain degree.

Here are two examples of how things can look, although some effects are greatly exaggerated, it shows how much the visual presentation can change. :)

Hm. With HDMI on full range and contrast/brightness/saturation settings via monitor and driver tool my game looks very good (which took a while to adjust.. I hate when black is greyish or details blacken out). Only thing it lacks is the HDR/bloom stuff, but I am not a big fan of that anyway. Softens the picture too much. I also noticed that many shaders kill off details by too high contrast effects, mostly due to shadow stuff.

I disagree. The overall visual presentation in ED is underwhelming with grayish color tones, underexposed parts, grayish blackness etc.
Keeping details in high exposure areas and dark areas is very hard, and I think HDR is the only feature that can deliver it currently. Everything else is just custom tone mapping based on old ideas.

I kinda like the vanilla look a lot. I also don't think it's grayish. Witchspace is even too colourful for me. I don't like candy coloured space. Perhaps it's just preferences? Also more saturation/Vibrance works as well.

It all depends on personal taste and skillfull shader configuration. I'm not a big fan of drastic changes, I find most of the presets to be oversaturated and the bloom is often an overkill. I prefer much subtler changes, just to enhance the image a little. Since I play many games, a single setting via monitor/driver doesn't work for me, as each games needs a different changes to look what I want it to look like. ReShade is a perfect tool for me must say, but I always make my own presets.

Funnily enough, the one I created for ED works really good in a lot of other games too! Like I said, it only enhances the image a little. Enough to make a difference when playing, but not exaggerating on the effects and shader configuration :)

Agreed. That should always be the approach when tinkering with shaders. For me at least. Small but awesome additions.

I don't believe in a general approach. You don't need to stay true to the original. That is the beauty of it. :)
But, each to their own of course!

Check out my preset then, you may like it :) (Link in the signature)

Yup, agreed. Some games benefit from a completely different feel (Skyrim), while others not so much - then again it's all a matter of personal taste. No rights or wrongs there really. Just use what you prefer and enjoy :)

The main problem of Elite is that it uses so many different lighting due to varied stars that we visit. It's quite difficult to create a preset that changes the feel in a great deal, and to make it work well with all of the lighting types we get in Elite... Another reason I personally went for a subtle one.

Hmm... Strange.
Yeah try F3 to see if it's disabled at start.

hitting F3 doesnt seem to do anything to be honest, i am willing to stream this for you if you like.

is there anything in the window (F2) that will show if its on or not?
