ED & SweetFX - Screenshots and DL link

Just found this out and I never used any of these, only sweetfx once but quite some time ago. Can you clarify me just about the differences between the different tools: sweetfx, gemfx, reshade and now I read about EDFX. Do the latter have to be installed of top of sweetfx or they're all indipendent one another?

Downloading EDFX atm, the name sounded inspiring :D

sound like a compatibility issue with GEMFX (EDFX is using GEMFX core)

may you check these things
- EliteDangerous32.Exe is in compatibility mode "windows 7"
- launch EDFX.exe in administrator mode then click on UNINSTALL then click on INSTALL
- no other graphics utility is launched like FRAPS or any other OVERLAY utility
- F9 is not used by your trackir or another utility/game launched
- btw click F9 ingame

note: games files are never modified, in all case pressing EDFX uninstall will remove all the FX file and Elite Dangerous will run as vanilla.

all are Directx dll injectors which add FX graphics effects or FX enhance graphics effects
SweetFX is the oldest
Reshader more recent
Gemfx recent too.

all are good
GEMFX is delivered with a UI configurator, that is main advantage (GEMFX_Configurator.exe)
EDFX.exe actually support GEMFX profile and manage it automatically ingame by hotkey features or by combolist(in windows ui)

Maybe next EDFX step will be to support RESHADER profile.

if you test EDFX, use the default profile, should do the work :)

Just download EDFX, you don't need anything else to make it work

Thanks a lot dude. I've tred EDFX and it looks quite impressive but I think I'll have to tweak it a bit. Problem are mostly flares and lighting in general, it's all too bright now, I can't read *stuff* on external panel and in my hud too sometimes, nothing major but.... tweakable

Also, I used to run oversampling x1.5 since it's the only thing that really helps with AA, especially inside stations, but I've seen that enabling EDFX eats up 10fps off my vsync'd monitor, 1080p + gtx 970. I'm talking inside stations here but it looks like a lot. If I disable oversampling tho, 60fps are granted and smoothy.

Any suggest about how to tweak flares and lights? :)

followed the install instructions you left but it wouldn't start the game I had to delete the files to get it to start.

Remember that ingame gamma setting affects the config also. If the config maker had in game gamma really low and you have it in the middle or even higher it won't look the same. And also the in game hud brightness setting can do magic with different configs. Suddenly over bright cockpit texts comes just fine.

If flares are too strong lower the intensity of them in configurator. Default config takes the color mood quite strongly to red side in my monitor.

Skypat: How about the same edfx thing with reshade?

My main concern with gemfx was that I really wanted to use gemfx shaders but didn't get the space look right with them. And without gemfx shaders it's too much like sweetfx. There are some really cool shaders in reshade that does the magic for me. So I hope Skypat makes edfx compatible with reshade also.

Bringing ingame gamma to zero helped a lot. Now I just found out the GemFx Configurator in my ED install and I've seen how many parameters I can play with.

Only thing that really looks terribad is the AA but that's not because of EDFX of course. Do you suggest disabling it completely ingame and using the gemfx settings only? I'll probably stick with oversampling and fxaa for the moment.

So yeah awesome tool!

thx for feedback, your pleasure paid me :)
read <ReadMe_how_adding_others_profiles.txt> in EDFX folder to know how to add your new profile tweaked with GEMFX configurator to the EDFX list
i'am not using at all Oversampling. i just set SSAO ingame and force AA transparency in drivers

you can add the GemFx Configurator shortcut in EDFX utility by clicking under a 'blank' custom icon area :) (at right)

I did it! RTSS (RivaTuner Statistics Server) + ReShade are now working for me in E:D (using Win8.1)!

You can see it's working in the following pictures. As my settings are rather subtle you'll notice the most significant changes in the color of both the OSD text and the ship's HUD.
with ReShade injector (SweetFX 2.0) enabled:

on.png

with ReShade injector (SweetFX 2.0) disabled:

off.png

To get test if it's working for you as well:

- exit RTSS
- go to the directory where it's installed
- open the file named just "Config" in the "Profiles subdirectory
- completely remove both sections "FnOffsetCache" and "FnOffsetCache64"
- save the file and start up RTSS

It'll recreate these entries, but some of the numbers will have changed.

@ICO_hr,
which do you personally recommend? Also, is there any performance hits?
GemFX is my favorite so far.On my PC the performace hit is very small.

Does gemfx work with windows 8.1 64bit?
Some people say it works, for others doesnt afaik.

Can soneone running win 8.1 write down a instructions how to run GemFX (if posible for SweetFX and ReShade also) without problems. I'll add it to the OP because its not fun digging trough 35+ pages. :)

It looks like D3DOverrider can be made to work also:

- exit D3DOverrider
- go to the directory where it's installed
- open "Config" in the "Profiles" subdirectory
- delete the "FnOffsetCache" section
- save the file
- copy the DXGI.DLL that your shader put into the E:D directory into the same directory that D3DOverrider.exe and D3DOverriderWrapper.exe are in
- run D3DOverrider.exe or D3DOverriderWrapper.exe (I never bothered to figure out what the differences are between the two)

In case of ReShade you'll likely get the ReShade greeting again when D3DOverrider is coming up. Acknowledge it. D3DOverrider then recreates the settings you deleted earlier but adapts them to your custom DXGI.dll. That's it.

I use it. GemFX on 8.1 64bit. U have to check COMPATIBILITY MODE in GemFX general panel.

To all you gemfx users. Do you have settings where you use realistic color or true color shader. I am very interested about those ones. If you are using those shaders can you please post pics.

Beware that at least reshade can somehow corrupt your textures. When you copy all the files over textures are just fine. I was wondering why some of the textures that were in shadow were pitch black. I started checking it out and it happened in all the stations. Always on the textures that shadow was casting upon them. None of my settings should have done that. I copied all the reshade files again and the problem went away. So if you spot shadow areas that are too dark or almost black you should copy the files again and it works fine after that.

I don't like GEMFx Shaders... I set NO shader. I use SweetFX and some GEMFX effect.

My Settings consumes 5 FPS in station.

EDFX 1.0 beta 3 is available to public.
if you dislike GEMFX profiles delivered with, you can manage GEMFX profiles you made or downloaded
Just drop all your GEMFX profiles in \EDFX\FX_GEMFX\profiles\win_7 or \EDFX\FX_GEMFX\profiles\win_8
with hotkey you can switch between profiles ingame (see readme)

https://twitter.com/Skypat to download

Wow! Thanks for this!!! Works like a charm and looks SO GOOD!

Heads up for win 8.1 users that don't have the game installed in Programfiles directory though, you need to copy the entire launcher folder into your game directory to get it to work. Once that is done, it works great and looks very very good.

Is it possible to switch between tweaked and vanilla with reshade? I guess it's not possible to have reshade and gemfx at the same time? Will they interfere with each other?
