ED: Tips and tricks for new players

Go into options>controls >

Headlock:
look toward all panels: does nothing

So much this.

Seriously though when the 5 second countdown for jumping, either high or low wake, just zero your throttle and you will be at zero throttle after jump ( possibly easier than FA Off ) certainly was for me after a quick to the options > controls screen.

Oh and dont rush to the larger ships as has been said before, The game designers have made the smaller early access ships fantastic.

If you are a trader of any sort, be it Data transfers, commodity's legal or not I think I am correct in saying 'diving down or pulling up' away from the planetary plane will take you away from the 'shipping lane', witch is usually indicated lower left on your HUD, doing the aforementioned should make it easier for you to see any ships on your scanner ( sensor/radar thingy directly in front of you on the HUD) who might be trying to get behind you, with a view to interdict you.

When entering a system orientate your ship perpendicular to the plane of the ecliptic and accelerate at max.

By accelerating out of the system in this manner you will outrun any ships attempting to chase you down, as you will be less affected by the gravity well than they are and will be able to accelerate faster. This will give you valuable time to assess the situation and see if there are any ships attempting to get behind you possibly with the intention of interdicting you this applies equally to NPC's and Player Commanders.
