ED used to immersive, now it's a shop front.

And none of those things have ever been supported by me, others have taken the view that a drip is better than a flood, of course now the flood has come...

tbh, you're giving FD an easy win, this is such an easy thing to fix & they will i'll imagine due to the faux outrage over such a minuscule issue. This is not something i'd have personally have pulled all the bells & whistles out for when imo seeing actual changes to gameplay would be more preferable.

In a way I agree with you but for me this new commercial move is just another thing that emphasizes where this game is going.

People have been asking for more in depth gameplay a lot, me included, less have baked features, a more engaging experience instead of using the same old mats grind to obtain new features etc.
This latest update made it clear that Fdev is out to earn more money and is doing that quite aggressively by confronting the players with their new strategy even in normal gameplay.

The blue buton in the station menu bothers me but what bothers me more is that I'm worried of where this game is going.
ED isn't an arcade like pick em up game for the regular gamer, it's for the more serious dedicated player, a completely different genre then a first person shooter or battle royal game.
I'm worried that Fdev is trying to get the more regular gamer into the game by making it more and more arcady and add a prominent micro transaction store to go with it.

If that's what they've planned for ED then that's their prerogative, it's their game but they don't have to expect that the more serious gamer will like it.

I'm right there with you on the gameplay. I don't think the outrage is faux though, I think FD have upset an awful lot of people this week with their craven behaviour.

Trouble is, the means for a company to find a relatively consistent source of revenue dictates their ability to continue developing the game. These vanity micro-transactions are just cosmetics that offer no in game bonuses, which is good imo since they aren't required. Plus this was already operational before being implemented as an ingame store to help them sell their cosmetics with the ability to now earn these skins for free for playing.

How i look at it, it would be cutting your nose to spite your face to try & deny them an extra means of funding that would go towards supporting the game for longer. Especially when this micro transaction model being used is hardly malicious & is instead targeted at players whom may desire vanity cosmetics that offer no real advantage in game. Should that change in the future i'd happly stand shoulder to shoulder with you, but i do not see FD going down the path of lootboxes or selling ingame buffs. It just doesn't seem in their DNA. All they seem to have done is reinforce their current model to help sell more cosmetics.

Now if you're worried that they might start selling means to skip grind, it could possibly happen. But then there are so many cases to be made for & against that. Grind Wall versus Pay Wall, people with time to play/grind so they can advance & people who'd rather pay to skip some of that due to lack of time. But truthfully i think that boat sailed given all ships are now easy to obtain in game, it would be like trying to unbake a cake. Cosmetics are the only means to make some more revenue, unless they start selling exclusive premium ships & so many games do that anyway. How long would it take you currently to grind out an anaconda from scratch? 2-3 hours if you're really good? well someone whom works for a living can use an hour of their wages to purchase a premium anaconda.

Let the whales finance the games development.

Its hard for me to talk about such money making models because it can have its positives & drawbacks and depends how carried away the developers get, such as NBA2K but with regard to ED, the game clearly just isn't built in such a way that could facilitate a more predatory model. The game is just to carebear for that.... only things they can offer in their shop are cosmetics & means to skip the grind which would count for nothing in this game given its got solo mode, combat logging etc etc. They may aswell just let people buy certain ship they want & get cracking with however they want to play the game because that what people seem to do anyway. The notion that any of that matters in an non-competitive game is for the birds.

If the game was in anyway competitive i'd probably be just as vigilant as the likes of you & @Cervantes01 , but its not, so it means nothing imo.

Imho Fdev's way of making money through this cosmetics store is a good way of doing it, no pay to win, not a single item is needed to play the full game and I've made plenty use of it in the past.
The thing that bothers me is the emphasis they put on buying arx and advertising their store now.
It looks desperate and a bit pathetic imho.
I have no problem with the new arx or the new store whatsoever, the price increase is another thing thoug.

Alot of British game companies have been upping the price of their games/dlc etc. Not sure if that more to do with the £ depreciating currently. I might be wrong, but its a pattern i've noticed anyway. Even price discrimination is being rolled back it seems, Creative Assembly games have gone up in price in countries with low purchasing power, even the EU are making the case that under a single digital market that all digital goods should cost the same in all EU countries despite purchasing power in order for businesses to stay competitive within that single market (Pretty sure France complained that they get out-competed good wise within the EU by such countries with low purchasing power that benefit from price discrimination). Price discrimination was a good thing for "poorer" countries, allowing them to have the same luxuries at a cheaper price compared to their richer counterparts, but those days are coming to an end it seems given current geopolitical events.

I can't stop thinking about that shopping bag icon.

A shopping bag.

In a space station menu.

For buying ship kits and clothing for holograms.

😕

IMO, a store button on the main menu is fine. A store button within the "livery" section of outfitting is fine. Don't put that garbage on my main station interface FDev. I play this game to pretend I'm a space man, stop reminding me that I'm a balding dude sitting in my underwear clutching flight sticks.

Yo listen up, here's the story
About a little store that lives in a game world
And all day and all night and everything he sees is just blue
Like him, inside and outside
Blue his button with a blue little icon
And a blue Corvette
And everything is blue for him
And himself and everybody around
'Cause he ain't got nobody to sell to.
