No, those two DB files, they currently using just under 7GB for me, i have moved on different disk long time ago. edsmsystems.json is different file.

OH - Look I learned something! :D

I honestly thought when I put the database in a separate drive that all the data was held there. Now I see that I have 7.17GB in that separate database but still have 7.78GB in the AppData tree.

That is both confusing and a bit annoying. So apologies for being wrong (not for the first time).

At the moment the Scan Display can be configured to show for a predetermined time.
Would it be possible to configure a key press to hide the Scan Display. I understand (I think) the difficulty of getting the key press to register with EDD when the game window has the focus.

That would be tricky indeed. Not impossible, but I'm not sure I see the use case - are none of the timer options long enough for you?

Question: for some reason, EDDiscovery has added some text to the system notes in my exploration route
Example: against system Plio Auwsy FS-A d1-5, it now displays Snowflake WP6. EDSM: Snowflake WP6
Until yesterday, the entry was simply Snowflake WP6

Is there a setting I need to adjust to revert to previous display version?

Thanks in advance
Cmdr A

That happens when the EDSM note shows up as newer than the local one - we then assume you've added a note in EDSM beyond the one sent from EDD and we append locally. Why the timestamps have gotten messed up I'm not sure - it may be an EDSM issue?

Cheers Cmdr; have edited on History page when I arrived in-system and removed the additional EDSM note. Must have been something to do with a BSOD I had with EDDiscovery open...

Thanks for responding and, as ever, thanks to you and the team for your continued efforts on this fantastic app!!!

The Scan window still contains very useful information that the new FSS screen does not give us. Candidate for Terraforming for example. But it is difficult to position it so that it does not obscure the game screen. Being able to hide or show this info at a key press would be useful I think. But I understand the tricky part.
I'll have to have a play around with window positions and timings.
Thank you.

You could always have it not on top, not transparent, show the scan until the next scan comes along and use alt-tab to bring it over the game as required?

If you install the portable version then any data is stored where you install it.

You can also redirect other stuff that goes into the AppData directory with the -Appfolder config option (https://github.com/EDDiscovery/EDDiscovery/wiki/Configuration-Options)

How does the optionfile work? Only way it seems i can change app folder location, is to use shortcut with "-optionfile -Appfolder F:\Games\EDDiscovery_DB\EDDiscovery" added to it. If i use anything else, it starts to download files in %app% folder on C drive. No matter what i do, i cant get EDDi to use my options.txt file.

I too would like to know how to use this to transfer my AppData stuff - move to the same drive and directory where I have the database.

Perhaps it would be easier to uninstall and then install the "portable" version in my target drive (the one my database is in now)?

You could try to add parameters to EDDiscovery shortcut like i did, maybe it works for you too. But you will need manually copy or move that folder away from C drive.
And always keep backup while you experiment :D
I was thinking about portable version too, but so far it seems i got it working like i wanted, but not exactly the way i wanted.

I'm sure others use this 'trick' but, just in case, I'll put it out here...

Deliberately setting a low (e.g. 30ly) range in the EDDiscovery Route Finder window provides a straight line of Waypoints to your target system. I use this to track progress/minimise deviation when plotting routes in GalMap (e.g. an NS boosted route)….

Morning all,

I found this app a couple of weeks ago and found it invaluable. Well done!

One question. How do I setup an overlay of a panel? I have the game in Windowless mode but whenever I have the game on screen the pop-out panel disappears. I've tried different setting on transparency but none seem to work. I also have Captains Log installed and this overlay seems to work fine.

I did try to search but could not find anything and admit I have not read through 256 pages yet :)

Cheers CMDRs :)

You probably need to right click on pop-out window title, then chose "on top".

Also, make sure the game is in windowed borderless fullscreen and not proper fullscreen - the latter will hide the overlays.

Out of curiosity, is there any possibility to spin off the npc tts bit as a separate exe?
I really like the life it brings but find the lag kills it for me. Plus I didn't find out yet how to make it only the npc (shut up about my fuel etc). Eddi does it, but it is all in the same voice which is a bit naff in comparison.
I'd run the npc voice all the time in the bubble and probably just run the full edd once a day to catch up all the logs. outside the bubble, it'd be edd all the way since lag doesn't matter so much.

Just a thought. Not sure I can fix the lag itself, already on minimal log selection and it's all on nvme now. I just need a bit more CPU :(

Have started to acquire the bits for a second PC (ITX) as a backup, & possibly eventual replacement, for my current tower.
Does anyone have any recommendations as to how to keep EDD synchronised between these two machines? I only (currently) have the one FD pilot.

I would think mapping a drive from the second machine to the primary machine with Elite installed on it, and installing EDD on the second machine, and then pointing to the elite journals on the mapped drive from there
