EDO Outfitting

Any thoughts on this being redone?

To put no sort method other than pick all storage items up, put in separate boxes, making extra work.

one of the best things about the list of 200 items in storage is to quickly see what is local.

EVERY Time I look in storage in EDO, it makes me so mad, it just makes me want to sell them all.

I want to point out that MILITARY slots are not shown as Military slots, until you empty them.
meaning I don't know why it won't show other things, remove item, now it says it is a military slot...now I see why.

showing items I have in storage whilst in core or optional or utilities or hardpoints is NOT USEFUL.
showing boxes with items I want, but station does NOT SELL them, so you are showing me MY STORAGE, IS A WASTE OF MY TIME.
.
If you really want to make outfitting useful, I would recommend you use any one of MY accounts to test. - - JUST DON"T SELL ANYTHING!
I have over 250 ships in one account with storage full
I have over 350 ships in one account with storage full
I have over 550 ships in one account with storage full

I dare you to go into any of these accounts and try to build or modify a ship.

Then you will see just how useless the ships and the outfitting menus really are.
to just say they are bad and useless is being polite.
And that there is zero ease of use to them...as in I never know where its going when I click back and the cursor is NEVER where I left it.
Both menus make me want to Yell at the designer for drinking on the job.

And I am going to repeat my thoughts on all storage in separate boxes every chance I get, it is atrocious, it is ONLY an exercise in make extra work. such a bad idea. totally takes away the only real value of looking in storage.
put a delete all storage items button in its place. just as useful. both are time wasters.

to open each box once is bad
to have to do it a second time requires rethinking why am I doing this again???
to do it a third time means there is something wrong with you if you didn't see the pointlessness of it the first 2 times.
You must be having a nightmare if you find your are doing it a fourth time

How a person can design that, and not see the futility to it is beyond me.
It means very clearly they had zero idea how we use 'Storage'
this thinking puts a million boxes in place of a lawn, each box contains a different breed of grass.
you have to open each box to cut or water them.
going to water daily???

not that it makes any diff...posting this here because it is becoming a huge time killer to try to see if anyone else has these issues
after we got a patch today I still see all these little bugs

as many have noted srv bullets are invisible. more importantly many things they would hit can't be hit.
the guardian sites are having many issues with this
sometimes I can hit the relic, most times I can't
to try and fly up and get it with the srv, it becomes a ghost and I fly right through the entire thing.....
on foot weapons work fine for this and you are currently better off using hand weapons
because if you are trying to grab mats for salvation or any other engineer or unlock stuff , MOST of the time the panel lands close by but the item you want takes the fastest route to MARS... rocket launcher speeds for mats....
wait, wait, wait....eventually it falls and if you are lucky you find it a km or 2 away???? wth ?
I can't count how many flew up into the ether....
even picking them up with srv scoop, often the scoop grabs it as you see it trying to spin away at top speed.....PLEASE FIX.

the amount of lost materials due to ODYSSEY BULLET BOUNCES is ridiculous.
3-4 mats from guardian slf, pick up 1 and the rest all fly into space because they were all close and srv is not good with multiple items in 1 spot.
then, the mat traders and the Salvation broker, any trader or broker right now, are all severely glitching and trying very hard to take 10 mats for every 1 needed.
same for Sirius heatsinks.
if you do NOT NOTICE the very large numbers, then you lose a lot of mats instantly.

as for salvation, the numbers of your mats are not updated as you use them. then when it updates, if it glitched like the traders, you lose and nothing you can do about it.
that cost me about 80 guardian technology components yesterday.
as in 3 weapons took 80.....went refilled, did 6 , 6, 6 class 2, then 2, 2, 2 class 1 and still have materials left....very risky when you can't see what it is really taking till its over.

FWIW not all these items say (Pre-Engineered) on their label.

I do find the "storage is full" message annoying. I wish it would at the least default to selling every E rated component rather than storing it - maybe even be smart, check that the commander has a solid chunk of cash, so that we don't accidentally trap a new starter with an unexpected money loss. Definitely optimisation to be done around these screens, I'm just not sure FDev have appetite for it. They work "well enough" which tends to be the point at which progress stops 😔

problem with that is, class e shield boosters are good.
otherwise, I agree, fdev does seem to work that way.
sadly, it is more reminiscent of bad IT at the office
as in how many presses does it take to print a document, most offices 4 screens 4 clicks, some like to go even deeper....SAP, select country, select ship, select branch, select printer, select......fofff

I have suggested that fdev feel free to try and build or engineer a ship in any of my accounts so they can see what it is like to always have storage full -+10 units
having over 250 ships in the lowest of my accounts.....

I built another 12 ships for all the salvation and Sirius modules I bought over the last 2 days for 2 accounts
soooo much harder to do in Odyssey
I can build a ship in 30 minutes and 2 hours or less to engineer in Horizons 3.8
odyssey = good luck....12 ships took almost 3 days. most time lost due to menus inability to sort or show useful info, therefore have to painfully scroll, scroll
it was faster to go to LYR space and just buy all new. because I hate looking in those menus so much.

this will rapidly make them want to smash things and quickly realize just how uselessly BAD the outfitting and shipyard menus are. they are an insult to any human capable of organizing.
AND the FLOW of things, LEAVE THE CURSOR ALONE, leave it where I left it, STOP moving the cursor.
it is so confusing at times, it has no idea what it is doing. and I have to exit and start again.
that's due to crappy flow and moving the cursor and the lines after a choice is made.
as a programmer I get it, someone tried to tackle the entire outfitting all by himself, probably went half insane and rage quit.
it is a mess.
it is capable of circular logic, yet it can't do logic, but the circular action is there, round and round it can go and accomplish nothing.

try it
start in stored modules, pick an item and put it in your ship
when you do that, where do you expect the screen to be?
I expect it to return to storage where it started from. instead it is now in the ship waiting for you to select something......really???? go back to where I made a choice to use storage to pick an item, go right back to where I was and do NOT move the cursor or the screen. BROKEN FLOW, NG very disorienting.
REMOVE its inability to do this.
if you continue from that area it put you in, it and you both have no idea if modules are being removed from ship or from storage, or where they are going.

This may seem messed up, BECAUSE it IS MESSED UP. badly.

tbh they aren't hi tech enough to even call them menus, they are un adjustable displays of long long long long long lists.
the designer never in his life ever even heard of a library or MS EXCEL. and I am 100% positive only owns 1 of anything. and no idea that others would buy 2 of something, let alone dozens of one thing.
cereal boxes must drive this person through the roof, all those things in 1 box., knowing Kelloggs makes smaller and smaller boxes.....must just kill them.
I need a box filled with 7,000 tiny boxes. and now I can buy a box opener, just 1 mind you...otherwise its hard to store it.

ON another note
could you maybe make the option to store or sell(once you select an item) when you are replacing a module, BIGGER or a DIFFERENT COLOR, make it STAND OUT, it is really hard to notice, even after seeing it a thousand times....
having done this in Horizons many many thousands of times, flawlessly, it is really hard getting used to a menu that is soooooooo different.

Also need to point out that it seems to have a limit on buy back, if you sell several of 1 type of thing very often I only see 1 available for rebuy..
I don't care, just thought it was poorly done and others might really want it working.

another menu that is now worse and I don't remember it ever being this way or that anyone asked for it

advanced maintenance

I go in fix integrity and the paint
exit
the cursor shoots up to the top of the menu....really????
scroll it down to actually exit
-zero flow, the opposite of flow, feng shui left the planet for this one.
again, LEAVE THE CURSOR ALONE. Why did you have it move? who keeps doing this?

basic programming best practices:
upon entering a new screen for interaction
put all user and screen variables into historic variables, to be restored when leaving.
provided none were a part of any change
and conforming with user action flow
means leave stuff I moved right where I moved it to.

the best and most prominent of these is the station menu, always moving all on its own, then it has no other choice but to throw the stupid mouse pointer back into the center of the screen again. constant PITA . so irritating that I added an off button to my mouse(it didn't have one)
I stopped asking for it to be fixed because each time it just got worse.
All HAIL the AUTO LAUNCH!!!.

I would not be surprised at all to find it is handled the same way the ship\modules tab. rewritten and forced by a second sub-routine.
