EDO will likely have 'Thargoids in the flesh'

The old Legs leak has now been essentially confirmed as legitimate.

FDev have explicitly ruled out base building from its proposed feature list, but have made no such statement about the 'Thargoids in the flesh' aspect.

(It’s also notable that FDev confirmed this old Thargoid model was legit. So there is a precedent of sorts.)

Chances are, we’re going to see more of this:

Makes some sense yes. With the srv we don't fight AI srvs, we fight skimmers & guardians.

With legs an AI opponent of human scale but that doesn't fall into the uncanny valley would be easier than trying to emulate believable AI humans.

The problem with that is that if it turns out that Thargoids are Orthodox, evolved naturally, and shower on a regular basis - what do we do then?

Leak also mentioned "base building", not that Odyssey's apparent lack of base building invalidates the leak. Maybe it was on the roadmap and was cut at some point, which I think it was. It was one of the first things besides VR that devs came out and denied.

On the base building front, sure. But FDev using the project name Watson in their PR images (as linked in the OP) is pretty damn suggestive that the leak was drawn from a legitimate source.

The only other explanation there is that FDev are outright trolling us

An alternative explanation is that the leak came from an early brainstorming session of POSSIBLE features for Watson/Odyssey and subsequent feature refinement remove some of them.

There are a lot of announced pillars of EDO that they haven’t even detailed yet. (Combat, social hubs, missions, co-op etc)

Thargoids would fit as a hype escalator held back for closer to launch too

Wouldn't it make more sense for Thargoid legs to be revealed during any blog related to legs combat and not the reveal we had last week of planetary surfaces.

Sure. But I was talking about Watson seemingly being confirmed as the internal project name there.

On it being possible that base building was planned then scrapped, sure. Totally possible. (Or it was a misunderstanding by the leaker, or what have you).

Perhaps they want to both keep the hype train running for months and also not have that reveal overshadow everything else going forward.

It's entirely possible that they're holding back the biggest features, but that's a big step from the inference made by the OP.
