EDProfiler - A New Display Switcher/Robust Settings Profiler/Switcher/Detector!

Tried the tool last night and have a unique problem.

I have three Elite installs, one for each account. Two Frontier, one Steam. The tool only picks up one and does not let me add the others. I can run the launcher independently, but would be nice to choose accounts as I do not use VR for my main account for exploration.

Also, if I use the tool and keep it active after changing the settings (1920x1080, fullscreen for Vive) then start E: D, the screen still reverts to windowed 1280 x 720 on game launch. That non-persistent screen settings in VR are a bug and has been reported, but FYI.

You can change which Launcher it is "launching" by going to My Documents\EDProfiler\Defaults and changing the "Launcher" path to the one you want. I don't think I'll add the functionality to have different ones, it's a bit to niche and messy :)

And yeah, it seems that the game changes the setting, nothing can be done. Hopefully they will fix the bug

Understood. It's no biggie to run the launcher, but I'll never get those two seconds of precious life back. ~sigh~

:D

Barons Blue (which is strangely enough Green)
DK2 Friendly
Voids Settings

Dr Kaii - just in case you didnt see that ref duplicates

Ive manually deleted Barons Blue and Voids Settings on my install

I did but I'm not going to write code to delete them, I'll just remove them from the program for new downloaders :)

btw I am aware of the problem of the detect not detecting the DOF or Terrain Sampler settings, I have fixed it for the next release, I just want to sort out the controls bindings thing to be working so I can release together.

Updated to 1.0.2.4, if yours doesn't autoupdate soon then please download here:
http://www.drkaii.com/tools/edprofiler/

Fixed the quoted problem, as well as finalised the multi-regional support. If you use commas for decimal points, heck if you use % signs for decimal points (we don't judge you), then it will work fine for you :)

Also added some NO2O GUI colour profiles, which are all avatar-friendly. Taken from here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...le-HUD-Colour-Color-Configs-(please-add-yours!)

(give rep to the inventor of the one you use)

I also disabled the control binding checkbox as right now it's not working.

If your files got corrupted due to it NOT working before, please either manually set complete list of settings and hit "Apply" in EDP, or delete them (game files and EDProfiler files) and recreate them (by launching the game and applying in the graphics menu for the former, by running EDP for the latter) and all will be smooth sailing.

NB! It's not going to auto-update due to an error with the file version! You should do it manually, asap!

Just a quick thanks for a very cool little utility - works a treat. In regards to the Steam supersampling hack, you can now do this easily using the 'Chaperone Switcher' utliity made by the equally awesome Bilago. Gotta love this community sometimes... :)

p.s. the supersampling hack looks awesome - shows exactly what Elite can and should look like in the Vive.

Thanks drkaii for this tool!

However, I had some problems getting it to work, I thought I'd report what I did in case it helps you make this more robust.

I just yesterday got my Rift, and got it setup. This morning I decided to first install EDProfiler and play with it's settings before attempting to run Elite. I installed it and then ran it, so far so good. Did not bother looking for any instructions, who reads manuals, right? :)

Next, I clicked on "get defaults", which gave an error about GUI settings missing (or some such).

Then, I selected the DK2 Friendly GUI setting, and then clicked on Apply. This resulted in the program crashing. I launched the debugger and got the following error message:
Code:
System.Xml.XmlException was unhandled
Message: An unhandled exception of type 'System.Xml.XmlException' occurred in System.Windows.Forms.dll

Additional information: There are multiple root elements. Line 4, position 6.

Now when I try to launch EDProfiler, it always crashes with the same error about multiple root elements.

Next I plan to delete the My Documents/EDProfiler folder and try to read your instructions, so this post is mainly just for your information. :)

Edit: Deleted the EDProfiler folder, it did not help with the error. I also launched Elite and adjusted various graphics options, still get the same multiple root elements error when starting EDProfiler. Strange...

I haven't gotten a question about where my ED files are, does EDProfiler only need that information when saving something? My ED is installed on the E: drive into a custom folder, perhaps this confuses EDProfiler?

This does not find my original settings file and therefore cannot apply new settings. Could it be because i do not have Elite on the C drive?

Thoemse - You should be able to tell it where your game install is. There are details on this on his site i believe if you're unsure where to find them.

Pate - yes, it will not write the custom GUI settings because you probably don't have any custom XML settings file yet, though it should tell you this and give you the option to create the file.
also, do you have the necessary runtimes installed that are needed? It gives you this option at the download window on his website.

Works best when at the same you turn down the ingame SS to 0.65 and the Vive Settings up
Why? Could you please explain it with simple words that i can translate to my language ;)

Also i f++++d up the path in my EDProfiler...how can i enter a other or change it?

I'm not entirely sure anyone truly knows why, but it seems the SS in Elite is not working correctly with the Vive implementation. Turning it all the way down and letting SteamVR do all the hard work just seems to work way better.

Not sure how to change the path in EDprofiler though, but i'm sure someone on here will chime in and help out soon enough.. :)

i readed some line above that i should set the setting in SteamVR to 2.0 and ingame on 0.65. I made 2 Profiles , one with SS 1.0 and one with SS 0.65. and saved both. When i switch between the profiles both are ss 1.0. Even if i edit the second one a second time and save it it shows after switching back and forth SS 1.0

let me show you it^^

Hi drkaii, just wanted to chime in to say that I have the same problem. I have a profile with SS=0.65 but when I click on it the SS shows the previous value that was displayed. When I look in the profile's xml file is has saved it correctly as 0.65 so it's just a display issue, albeit an annoying one, because if you edit the profile, it will overwrite the SS value with whatever is displayed :)
