Release EDSM - Elite Dangerous Star Map

Please Note: These observations are through the eyes of a 'fresh' visitor whose wasted too much time recently following 'decaying' ED resources ;)

BugSnag: Would it be sensible to (a) Provide 'forum' / 'github' links/buttons first (I selected 'bugsnag' first and was presented with their blog which gave the impression of a re-direct from a defunct project) (b) Bugsnag link to a 'this project supports....' advert (an 'img' anchor (a la 'This Site Uses CSS') may also be a more appropriate meme than a button).

EDNews: Sensible - if it's dead/replace it, the sooner the better.

DevJournal: ? It would be reassuring to have a link/section containing news on EDSM Development - bug work, features completed/in-progress/under consideration (possibly [links to] votes/conversations etc) etc. so newbies can get a feel as to where it is/where it's going and that it is, indeed, 'going' (onwards :)).

Bugsnag is now gone as I test a self hosted sentry.
News, soon, when I have time!

As for dev journal, you can go on Discord, Twitter, Github, there's plenty everywhere, and I'm always happy to explains how things work internally.
Sadly I'm not a PR, so it's more than I can do! Remember that I'm still only one guy, working around 30h a week on EDSM.
We are far from decaying, specially since almost every software around the game use one of our API/Data somewhere ^^

Frontier Regulation?

Looking at my Account Book I noticed an entry called "Frontier Regulation"
Normally this entry is zero credits. I assumed it was just a reset to my actual balance from the journal at logon. If for example some transaction was missed, like I bought some fuel while EDMC wasn't running.

I've been in space on an expedition since 1/24 and have not docked anywhere, sold or bought anything, AFAIK.
But on 2/24 there is a "Frontier Regulation" entry that added ~4.9 Million to my balance. In deep space, far from any station, I suddenly have 4.9 million credits more than I had the day before.

Any idea where this came from?

Now I see ;)
Well added the Is landable field to fix that.

A little slow right now, but as the game is in maintenance, I'm also pushing some new indexes to cover that.

Thanks AnthorNet! That's very helpful indeed. Without any other criteria selected it seems to work well.

I did a search for "No Atmosphere" and "Is landable: Yes" and it returned some gas giants in the results! Mainly they were landable bodies. After a few more tests I realised that when an atmosphere type is selected the landable flag is ignored by the search. This is probably working as you intend and it's now clear to me how it works, so no need to change it.

Now, on with my quest! Thanks again :)

Regulation are the LoadGame event, the only event with the full balance, everything after is just added/removed to the regulation.

Looking for atmosphere for isLandable to No, and looking for materials force it to Yes.
In fact it was already the case internally before for performance purpose.

I remember now you previously said that search includes optimisations like this, makes sense, much more efficient.
Cheers :)

so, is there a way to manually log my stuff? Because I'm on ps4 but I'd like to contribute data, at least for jumponium systems, geysers etc.
But I havent found out how or even if there is an option to manually log those systems-because I'd like to, but as we know its not possible to get that officially implemented because of reasons.

so, idk, a little part of the program or app that gives you the option for "manually inpt of system name/coordinated & information like on a spreadsheet that then could be given to someone who can feed it to the program and get it in would be really nifty)

Question:

I want to use this, but I want to import my whole history, i.e. ALL my journals.
Which means... 571 files.
What is the easiest way to do it?
I mean, I see the drag'n'drop, but can I really do that with 571 files?
Even if I can, will the program identify properly entries with their dates/times over all those files and build my history properly?

Yes this is entirely possible with EDDiscovery and a bit of patience and bandwidth.

Get EDDiscovery from https://github.com/EDDiscovery/EDDiscovery/releases/latest and let it ingest all your journal files and download all EDSM data. The first run might take some considerable time depending on your internet bandwidth.

Additional help is available at https://github.com/EDDiscovery/EDDiscovery/wiki or the forum thread here https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/138155-EDDiscovery

Someone can confirm or correct me on this, but I believe the easiest way would be to install ED Discovery and sync the history into it first and then sync into EDSM from it.

Thank you guys,

BUT

If you check page 232 in EDDiscovery thread you will see I ask the same questions (almost).
The (new) question, is if EDDiscovery will pass through all journal entries that are supported by EDSM.
I thought of doing the same using EDMC (which I will possibly use more than EDDiscovery after all, because I prefer a more transparent thing that I don't even know its there), but EDMC people (in yes... almost the same question :p), "discouraged" me as EDMC will probably not pass through as much data from old journal, as putting journals myself in EDSM and proposed I put them myself and then use EDMC for "running" journal (and direct connection to my FDev account).

Also, in any case I'll probably need to wait until there is a stable post-3.0 EDDiscovery version.

This is why I reached here to see if I can drop the mass of my journal files in EDSM and get done with it.
What has the dev of the app to say about this?

You could just copy all journal files into one and import that. Type into a shell (Windows+R -> cmd):
Code:
cd "%USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous"
type Journal.*.log > AllJournal.log
After that you have one big "AllJournal.log" file which you can import.

I actually thought about that too, but I wonder if a 41MB journal makes the system go boom.

BTW your script doesn't warranty the files will get merged from older to newer.

I'm going to come across as a complete noob and dimwit here but ...

I have more than one commander, EDDiscovery (and EDMC etc) handles this fine but I thought you can't have more than one commander with EDSM - I already have one set up with EDSM (sort of) but I'd like to have all of them "enabled" in EDSM. Is this possible?

It will. You'll need to be running the latest EDD, once it has caught up with reading all the files and got itself up to date the EDSM Sync button will send all your old journals (we only recently updated to the new API that supports more than flight logs and I synced about 50k journal entries with no issue that way...)

You will need to do a manual sync to get anything prior to your EDD install time pushed up.

You say you prefer something you don't know is there but, unless you're in VR and can't take advantage of it, check out some of the things you can do with our overlays. I'm not sure I could play without it any more...

You can create multiple EDSM accounts and configure the account names and API keys separately in EDD for each CMDR.

Dunno if EDSM provides any way to link those as alts of the same real person...

Thanks for that, I'll have a play with it mañana (well, OK probably not until tarde). :)
