I like the way you think.[OPTIMISM_SCRIPT]It could mean the collapse of all the big US gaming developers, leading to FD being one of the biggest in the world, and ED being one of the most successful games of all time (possibly second to Elite)[/OPTIMISM_SCRIPT]
Well its not easy to find a solution which will make peace on earth. And justice to all men and women on this planet. But capitalism wont be the way and neither communism either. Capitalism seem to get out of control, and the freedom of opportunity and wealth makes some rich and the others working ants. And again makes people corrupt because everyone or many wants to be one of the howling wolves. Which can eat caviar and soup champagne. When the human mind has first tasted wealth it wont go back to poverty. Communism seems to attract dictators with promises of sharing all and the state provides comfort and needs. Its like delivering the perfect package to sociopaths and powermongers. They just need to climb to the top and catch the cheese and they have all power. And this is done with good intentions and promises. But settling down on the top the real beast shows its cards. A new dictator is born and freedom vanishes like it never existed. Replaced by control and fear. Stalin is a good example of this. On the other side you have Hitler which came to power by false gifts and broken promises. In socialistic/democratic Germany. How can good people protect themselves agains such sociopaths and powermongers. Which uses fear and hate as their remedy to rise to power. And uses lies/deluding to gain the upper hand. The only sullotion comes from a good heart which want the best to all man. And not the few. The world need a new system and a true leader which devotes time and wisdom from the heart and a clean counsiousness. I guess one day man will live in peace and harmony with each other and all can be free. But it wont happen with capitalism. just look whats happening with world economy. There is only debt left.
Somewhat wrong place to argue about this, but I just want to say that I do not disagree with you. But rather than seeing PS as some sort of a savior, I see them as just a symptom of the corrupted political system that western countries in general have.
Unfortunately, representative democracy is not really a good way to govern a nation for many reasons. And even complete democracy (everyone votes on every issue) would fail because people simply do not know or understand the issues at stake very well (nor do representative politicians, for that matter).
That scary thing is that no one's come up with any better way to govern a country...
I just read that same thing in Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey/Maturin novels. And, yes, a wise and benevolent dictator (such as me) would be a good thing to have - but dictators rarely have very steady careers and are easily replaced by less wise and less benevolent rulers.Yes there is. Wise and benevolent dictator. It is THE perfect way to rule.
Of course, problem comes when you need replacement.
Well, it must be explained what default actually means here. It means that US government can't borrow money anymore
In long term means it's means slow, painful and chocking death of US economy, which is biggest market in the world. You can figure out further consequences yourself.
.
It never ceases to amuse me that so many people think that unless government is free to spend more than it collects in perpetuity it spells the end of civilization.
Au contraire, the healthiest thing the US could do is precisely to stop spending and borrowing so much. This entrenched profligacy will be what ends in disaster, not its absence. Far better to face the pain of readjusting now, rather than kicking the can down the road until the problem becomes so insurmountable it leads to monetary collapse.

Demo of Epic Space Battle starts around 26+ minutes.
Video of the Oxide Games Nitrous engine, using the Mantle API with tens of thousands of draw calls.
Imagine this in ED, epic space battles with thousands of ships (demo has about 2000 ships)!
Do you think ED should adopt the Mantle API?
It would be good if that actually happened. If you followed debt ceiling debate two years ago, then deadlock was apparent - Obama and Democrats wanted to smart cutting with vetting economical impact, plus restoring taxes for rich pre-Bush times. This last thing which made Tea Party supporters go "bull sees red waving skirt" mad and is most source of their current hatred against Obama.
Republicans of course suggest to gut all government services and destroy middle class completely increasing taxes for them. Not that US gov. services don't need overhaul (every country has to do that time after time) but they want to destroy them eventually. No regulations, no support for poors, nothing.
Disclaimer: this should be moved to offtopic I guess.
Problem is quite simple - if everyone would have some savings, then yeah, going cold turkey in face of problems borrowing money sometimes can help. However that's not real in modern capitalistic world, which has quite big amount of poors, and huge amount of live-by people. In such scenario those are hit very very hard. And guess what - those live by and middle class are biggest motors of economy, because they spend money. Rich people earn more than spend, and thus take money out of economy.
Fiscal discipline is nice thing, and things must be balanced, but for de facto situation on the ground going in spending freeze will make things much much worse. They should figure out how smartly and slowly turn the ship.
The bottleneck for number of ships isn't GPU power, it's network latency.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIWyf8Hyjbg

All the talk of default is absolute rubbish and political posturing. It's written into the US Constitution that default is illegal and if the president allowed default he would be impeached. In addition the Congress is required by the same law to pay all debt as a first order of business. If the US was to default there would be a revolution.
Surely this thread should be moved to Off-Topic?
