News Elite Dangerous - 2.4 and beyond

Thank you thank you thank you!! You see people, FDev does listen ; )

Confirmation Bias. Ill bet lots of money this was thier plan for a long time. They however trapped themselves with thier stupid roadmap and had to deliver on other thigns instead. And it looks like they are making the same mistake again.

You mean more pewpewpew, rubbish like PP and RNGineers, don't you?

Remember the hype about that? Remember what we got? Don't get too excited yet folks. I've been on this hype train before, and it ended up in borkedville. Just lower your expectations and hope to be pleasantly surprised. ;)

Yawn, we can always count on you for rampant negativity. Both Power Play & Engineers extended well beyond Pew Pew.

Thanks so much Zac for the heads up :) Nice to see things moving forward. It will going to be a hell of a ride ;)

I hope this is a sign you guys will begin to open up more communication with the community. Given your history though, I kinda doubt it. Say what you want about that other space game, but they have good communication. Even if that game is never coming out...

Core Gameplay indeed means the existing activities such as trading, mining, bounty hunting, exploration missions, planetary landings and so forth.

Many of which could do with some attention and improvement in my opinion.

There's likely to be new content, but that content will most likely be directly related to the existing core activities above.

That's my interpretation - and I really really read your post this time just to be sure I got the answer right :)

My thoughts exactly. I really hope walking around our ships will be incorporated with this. Accessing new UIs and menus through different consoles/stations in our ships.

Great news to hear the core game will be expanded upon. Pretty sure we all want that.

I have a feeling that these core game improvements will be free for everyone apart from stuff on planets that will still be behind the horizons paywall.

As soon as the next paid for expansion rolls out possibly Xmas time or next year, horizons will be included into the main game. We shall see.

The future is looking a little bit better for ED at the moment.

This is the kind of communication we've been dying in the weeds for, Zac. Well done in getting something out to us--even if just to say news is coming soon.

I'm very very happy to hear that the team will be focusing on core and existing gameplay following the 2.4 release. The lack of cohesion between gameplay systems and the often quoted "inch deep" features that have been in the game for a good while now deserve the attention. I know many in the community are going to be happy about this.

Overall, this is great news, FDEV!

Oh, go suck an egg. Not only do they have no obligation to you, but story missions aren't something that should ever be in the game.

You know, dealing with salty people by being even more crass yourself probably isn't the best strategy for changing someone's opinions.

Story missions could have a place in the game as a tutorial experience. The updated tutorials we have now already show a strong leaning towards this idea, and I'd like to see more of it. Star Citizen is kind-of doing a similar thing with Squadron 42. It's not necessary to declare that there's *no way no how* for a story-mode. I agree however that a "campaign" mode doesn't fit the hands-off structure of Elite's current modes, and I do *not* want to see it taken too far.

Wow........a very long OP that said absolutely nothing. Not sure why they bothered tbh.

Blissfully unaware irony like this depresses me.

1) Point release in July to fix game bugs
2) Told us when to expect solid info on 2.4
3) Updates post 2.4 will focus on core gameplay

That's not nothing dude. They've listened to our complaints and are trying to be a little more transparent. Fdev can't say too much because if they do and something changes the forums with crucify them. Give them a little credit. If the updates suck then get on their case. Don't give them crap for doing what we, the community, have been asking them to do. This is them being a little more transparent than they've been pretty much all season.

quince

Oh it will probably get fixed in 6 months or so.

Let's hope by that time are even still players in the game. lol. Quince is cancer to the balance of the game. It is actually gamebreaking for the whole galaxy. I wonder why this doesn't seem to be No1 on the bucketlist of the devs. Do they think people will be interested in playing an unfair game?

Thargoids can wait. Fix quince first!

edit: ah, i see, "core mechanics overhaul". Yes, please!
And they should make a contingency plan for how to react fast when new creditleaks like quince apear because it has been allowed for far too long. It was allowed to leak trillions of free credits into the galaxy. It's a total desaster.

The devs must monitor youtube and reddit and once a new powerful money-exploit emerges they need to shut it down within days not months. If it is a problem to deploy fixes quickly they need to permit-lock certain systems or something similar but allowing to leak free credits in this magnitude breaks the game.

I hope they realize quince affects everyones' gameplay to some extend in various ways and learn from this for the future and make sure this doesn't happen again. It's important. people want a challenge and a fair game. Big ships need to be achievements and can't be handed out for free.

Bling comes in second place. In first place comes fair gameplay.

my 2 cents. Thanks for reading. cmdr signing out.

I hope this is the case. I think the developers have tried very hard to do the reverse, and have it work out. It hasn't. But they have tried very very hard to do that.

The core needs work. The developers know this and I think this is actually a very promising sign. It's a bit of a scary one for Frontier because sexy new stuff sells, bug fixes less so.

But the game needs work. There's a lot that is almost at the point of requiring an overhaul.

I read this today, and I see this as actual hope. In the last few weeks I had simply resigned myself to the realisation that Frontier were probably going to take the sales road more than the core mechanics road and sort of made my piece with it.

This decision won't have been taken lightly and I am now finding myself hopeful about the future again. Which I swore I would just get over and move on. lol. oh well.

Here's to some long overdue improvements. And if the bling is still added (when it probably makes more logistical and logical sense) then what's not to like?

Reading this update made me very happy.

Also to those having a go for the developer having the temerity of placing stability and core mechanics in a bit more of a focus and why are you paying for that - go find a hobby - a constructive one.
I give this a +1

Great to hear that they are concentrating on the core game play for the next release rather than a "headline" feature. Hopefully the key-words for this are variety and balance.
Looking forward to patch 2.5/3 now. Obviously they won't please everyone but I'm optimistic about this patch.

We’re happy to be able to confirm that the next major updates following 2.4 will focus on core gameplay, existing features, quality of life and other improvements!

Exactly what i wanted to hear. It's what the game needs and what the players want.

Interesting times ahead.

A really positive message about the game and the direction it is going in. As others have said, this is the kind of view of the game roadmap that we've been looking for!

I'm being realistic so, yes, based on my experience of ED's development, I believe this negativity is not misplaced. With all this blinkered, sycophantic praise going on, people have quickly forgotten how each update has been lambasted by those clamouring for something better. Don't get me wrong, FD have done an excellent job under the hood, and there are loads of little bits and bobs I love about ED, but it is the core part of each update that has been god-awful in my eyes. I'm yet to see an update I can laud, and I really hope I'm pleasantly surprised. :)

But, basically, Zac has said nothing that hasn't already been hinted at, yet everyone goes gahgah. :D Just don't build your hopes up, that's all I'm saying. ;)

No, primarily lambasted by the usual corp of whiners. Though I always think the game can be better, I've actually been largely happy with the updates in this Season-& your claim that these elements are "Pew Pew" just goes to highlight what a hater you are, unbound by facts or truth.
