Elite Dangerous and Windows 10 Discussion thread.

I also have a lot of concerns over Win10, the only reason I looked at it was DX12 but I am going to hold off till I know more. Either its free to get you locked into their marketplace or subscription based models, or there is other more sinister things as FalconFly eluded to. I don't know but I am cautious by nature.

I don't believe ED will support DX12 for a long time at any rate, so no reason to step up from Win7 for me.

It's a free upgrade for consumers so Microsoft doesn't have to support old versions of their OSes any more than is strictly necessary. They've never made any money from people upgrading, *that's* why they are giving the upgrade for free. There is no subscription model at this stage and if you take the free upgrade you'll *never* have to subscribe for your current PC.

MS is simply following suit and behaving like every other OS maker in the world - allowing paying customers to get upgrades for free. Just like iOS, OSX, Android, etc.

<nods> I was about to comment on that, as I intend to wait 'til then to upgrade.

If I actually do upgrade, that is - it may be that Windows 7 Pro will remained installed instead.

My thinking as well...

Will there be any problem with ED and windows 10 when comes out?
I'm win7 at this time, Microsoft is offering a free upgrade to win10 until July 29
???????????????????????????

God damnit can't you people use the search function for once.

As of now ED runs perfectly fine on the current technical preview 10166 x64 and the newest nvidia beta drivers.

build 10240 came out today on the insiders win. It should be the one that hit's the streets on 29th. Been running ED on win 10 for about 6 weeks with some minor issues for each new build version.

biggest issue has been Onedrive. I have too much on it and want it all synced. First day or two after each new build one drive re synced all of it. Running up to 40% of my cpu time. This hurt graphics in the game. Once one drive done ED runs fine.

i have x-55, nvida 960, thrust master mfds. Nivea has win 10 driver, rest using older drivers.

But have been doing win 10 on 4 machines. Each has been a different adventure on win 10 issues. Don't fly without insurance-make a backup

It really bugs me whenever a new version of windows comes out- instead of just improving it, they change fundamental things that make the transition annoying. It's like if you buy a new car, and the signals are now on the door handle, and the hand brake is now a foot brake. And then you buy the next model and the signals are back on the column, but on the other side, and the hand brake is back but its in the back seat.

The things that change aren't "improvements" but totally unnecessary annoying lateral moves in technology.

E:D on Windows 10 experiences?

Hi,

just wondered if anybody has tried Elite Dangerous on Windows 10 yet?
I'm due an upgrade soon, but don't want to go through the hassle of going to Windows 10 and discovering that it won't run properly.

X52 and Windows 10 RTM Version, problems galore

Hi there Commanders,

I tested Elite and Win10 a few times during the Win10 Insider program. The game always crashed on me during the transition from normal space to Supercruise or when I jumped.
So far so good, in the meantime Nvidia released more drivers and Elite is working just fine, but since the final Win10 version I have suddenly major problems with my flightstick X52. Everything works fine, except when I am done playing Elite and disconnect the flightstick. The mouse is not responding correctly anymore. The buttons don't work, the PC starts to beep and the mouse movement is more than laggy. Even a system shutdown is not working correctly.
Is anyone else having those problems? I am just curious, maybe someone found a fix?

no problems with x55. Think there was an Nvidia update on W10 today. I ok before and after that update. But I leave my stick connected.

I know exactly whats going on here.

You my friend, have just experienced what is known as a "driver conflict"

Now I'm gonna ask you a question, Do you use Teamspeak?

Try using different USB ports. Most motherboards have more than one controller, you should be on the safe side if you use USB 2.0 and USB 3.0. If you don't have USB 3.0,you could look in your motherboards manual to see which port belongs to which controller.

It's strange though that your computer beeps... I thought they only do this during POST or hardware failures.

Does sound like the Team Speak issue that I had for a while. IF you're using team speak go into settings>options then select hotkeys button which is on the left side.
Once in there on the bottom right you have a pull down menu which gives you the option of keyboard and mouse only or default. Select keyboard and mouse only.
Its a driver conflict that's appeared for a few people. This caused me lots of problems until I found a google answer. Had no further problems since changing this!!

But this all depends if you're using Team Speak :D

Hi guys, first of all, thanks for all the answers.

I do have team speak installed but do not use it while playing Elite. The beeping sound only starts once I am done and disconnect the stick. When I try to move the mouse or click something, it starts to stutter and the beeping starts as well. The beeping is not from the mainboard it is coming trough the speakers... must be Windows related of some sort.
I tried different USB ports, nothing so far. I also read somewhere that disabling USB3.0 in the Bios might help, but that was for a different X52 problem, but I will try it anyway.

The weird thing is, when I tested Win10 as an insider I knew there would be problems, I tested Elite immediately and everything was fine, now I am running the RTM version and I got problems. lol

Thx Commanders for your helpful input... I hope I can fix this, I really thought other people using Win10 would maybe have the same problems and found a fix already.

"RTM versions are typically released to manufacturers before they are released to the general public so that the manufacturers can work out any bugs the software may encounter with hardware devices."

So you are having an issue using an RTM version which is designed to identify bugs. Wait for the Retail on Wednesday and see if it has been fixed, but sounds like driver conflicts

Yes, I think so too... again, everything worked fine with earlier Insider Versions, just weird.

I also tested the USB ports, even disabled USB3.0, no such luck. Well, time will tell. :)

Thx so far for all your help guys!

Are you running with a (normal) X52 or an X52Pro? The Pro can be a bit troublesome under USB3.

I must admit I've had the same symptoms, but only when also running TeamSpeak.

Are you using the Saitek drivers and the profiling software? I suspect they're not Win 10 specific and may be the cause of your grief. Out of interest, if you leave the stick plugged in, is everything OK and can you shutdown without problems?

Hi, yes I am using the X52 only. I used the available Win8.1 x64 drivers, never had a problem with previous Win10 versions. At the moment I only have the drivers installed, they cause the problems. When I leave the stick plugged in I can shut the system down. The trouble only starts once I have connected the stick and unplug it and try to use my mouse.

As I remember there was a problem with USB and W10. Try Google, it have plenty results...

PS: Why do moderators move threats about elite status to off topic but not this one?
