News Elite Dangerous: Ascendancy | New Release Date and Release Schedule

Greetings Commanders!

In order to ensure the best possible experience we have made a small change to the release date of Elite Dangerous: Ascendancy, to adjust an issue with NPCs still being more aggressive than intended.

Thursday 31 October sees the eagerly awaited release of Elite Dangerous: Ascendancy, featuring the new Mandalay exploration ship, Powerplay 2.0 and more!

Here's when things kick off:
  • 06:00 GMT - Maintenance begins and Elite Dangerous servers offline
  • 15:00 GMT - Maintenance complete and Elite Dangerous: Ascendancy is available
Please note that these are approximate times and are subject to change.

Full patch notes will be available alongside the release of Elite Dangerous: Ascendancy.

Things to be aware of

  • Powerplay ranks will be reset when Ascendancy is available. You will need to pledge to a Power if you wish to get involved with Powerplay on release.
  • The Mandalay will be available as early access via Arx initially. It will be available for credits in the future.
little unexpected, but never mind. With some bad timing on my side it means for me try Ascendancy over weekend. Hopefully release will go smoothly, fingers crossed :)

Why are u Delaying the release of the Mandalay for something completely unrelated to it? this is now the third delay for something pp 2.0 related.......

If it's going to be the same conditions, I may not be able to mine in 90% of the bubble if I'm pledged to Granny Torval

Yeah, there are activities some people might stop doing if that the ongoing situation, for instance mapping systems for the potato hunt, don't think it would be safe to pledge to anyone since you never know when a system might end up being controlled by a rival power and suddenly find yourself hunted down constantly.

At this point they should just release the Mandalay & Work on the other bits later. I just want the ship I don't really care about power play.

People who say this do not understand the fundamental way a large software deployment is done.

To decouple the ship from the other updates at this late stage would probably delay both by more than a week.

It's a game, chill out... It'll be released and you'll get your ship soon enough.

Go earn some Arx (or real life money to buy them) ready for paint jobs etc.

Hi All :)

Why are u Delaying the release of the Mandalay for something completely unrelated to it?
Yeah, sorry about that folks, I was hoping that I'd be finished decorating the house by today but I'd run out of a certain colour paint on Monday. I managed to obtain some yesterday afternoon but it was quite obvious I wouldn't be finishing the job as originally planned by sometime Wednesday. Adding for the time it takes for paint to dry, I re-calculated and as far as I could see the work would be finally completed early Thursday morning.
Ah well, these things happen. 🤷‍♂️
 I quickly sent a telegram to Frontier on the Monday, enquiring whether they could postpone releasing Ascendancy until such times as I was ready to download the update and play the game, which would be possibly Thursday around mid day. As always Frontier were really helpful, and assured me that they would delay the release, and not to worry myself about it! ...Ah! Bless 'em. 🤗
They also mentioned that if my decorating project encountered any more (unforeseen) problems I was to inform the Community team again, and they would further delay the release to better fit in with my DIY plans here at home.. All I can say is that they are just simply amazing!👍
....now where did I put that paint roller...

Delay(s) is completely understandable, this one is seems to be the biggest update this year so far.
What would me personally asked on the kindest way possible: it would be just wonderful and calming down many of us if FDev could share Ship Info with i.e. EDSY author(s) so we can get busy planning engineering builds even is case of further delay(s) and/or while servers will be down during 31th.

Maybe some foresight into this wouldn't go a miss? In the future the release of a ship should be separated from a major feature update. If not, then add more time onto the release date before saying when its coming. Then Delaying the release 3 times? Just a thought?

I for one have waited a long time for the Mandalay to be available. SO, I can only assume the delay has also annoyed others not just me.

I understand how complicated this must be for the developers. An how hard it must be to suddenly start deploying new ships.

Mandalay is going to be game changing for quite a few people.

This would be great! At least then we have something to work on. Could even start to engineer parts while we wait. Providing we can get the correct fitments for the build if we had the information available?

I believe the current patch is being tested by the "partner" group. That's how those streamers have been releasing vids of the Mandalay and talking about how it performs. They're the ones that reported the over excited PP NPCs.
The problem with using streamers to test the game is they’re not trained to find bugs, and they’re really not interested in finding bugs.
Put 200 beta testers on a server for 72 hours with groups testing each different area of the game and they will make it worth FFev’s time and money. If I was FDev’s ED Validation Manager I’d bet my job on it (and I seriously would be).

Personally, I don not think that it's about developers. Let's be honest, who would take managerial decision to split 100% candy-like Mandalay and potentially troublesome and full of imperfections PP2.0 ? To keep those both in one release a a good chance to debug PP2.0 while significant part of Player base are out in Deep Space exploring in a shiny new Mandalays :)

For me for sure.

People in Partner program are far more skilled than most (if not any) of full-time testers.

72 hours of what? Actual tests? To test anything related to PP every and each of 200 beta testers has to gain some knowledge before tests (ED is not the most novice-friendly). That quickly runs to hundreds of thousands real money.
If I was FDev’s ED Validation Manager I’d bet my job on it (and I seriously would be).
Nothing personal, but if you was then you would be fired by this moment for hiring those 200 beta testers. Why? Because we will do that for free and even will give FDev some money for ARX Mandalay. It seems to be the way as Software Industry works nowadays.

I think it was a good call to delay this to fix the aggression issue, because keeping that in and fixing it on the go might completely ruin the first impression people get from PP2.0. If you get followed by a bunch of aggro bots all the time - to an extend that others don't want to play with you - just for being pledged to one of the powers, you will quickly learn to not touch that game feature anymore with a ten-foot pole. PP2.0 would be dead on arrival.

But fix it by means that still allows the 'worst' for those who want it, or that it follows consistent logic so people can avoid it.

I'd be mortified if NPCs wind up the pointless soap bubbles we had in PP1.

Unless most of the Livestream content for this Wednesday?... has been pre recorded some incites into this as you describe could also be included in this weeks Livestream broadcast?
In any event, the general reasons and delays might be explained more fully I would have thought in this Livestream, there again, as these delays and problems were unforeseen I would imagine that would have put the proverbial spanner in the works regarding this Livestreams schedule also. 🙁

Jack :)
