News Elite Dangerous: Ascendancy | New Release Date and Release Schedule

The fire groups i'm not quite sure about, I might have had some issue with that, but if so I reprogrammed them and went on with my life.. :)
Yeah there was an update in, 2023 I think, where the fire groups on all of one's ships were gone...every...single...one...

Surely I must have fixed them ALL by now?

I thought when they fixed that one the only shios left affected where ones you had used while the bug was active and hadn’t manually rewritten your fire groups.

So EDO gets an update on a Thursday giving the Devs only a day before the weekend to fix the issues ? Going by prior experience?
Unless of course they are no bugs ??

My Mandalay is delayed again? Ah well, I get not wanting a bunch of over achieving NPC's that attack opposition factions on sight. That would be bad for the newbs flying around in sidewinders that pledged to a power out of the gate. But, I'd really like my ship. Or at least I want one of the 'build it' sites to load it up so I can start theory crafting how I'm going to outfit it and what kind of jump range I can max out at.

But, as was said earlier, better late and good that early and bad. That's what USED to make Blizzard famous. Then they dropped the 'better late and good' model, now. . . .

I'm pretty sure I remember fixing lots of ships I hadn't used in a while. Now, memory being what it is, I recognize that I may be wrong.

But lemme see if I can find it...it was update(s) 9 (Dec 2022) and 9.01 and 10 (Feb 2023), and possibly 10.01 I think, at a minimum...I'd continue looking but I had my covid, flu and shingles vaccines today and I'm totally wiped.

Need sleep...I'll be dreaming of the update, and I'm sure it'll play out in my subconscious like either "hefalumps and woozles" or "pink elephants on parade" at this point...

IMO
The problem isn't that FDev found a bug about NPCs, or that they planned the release too soon. The problem is much deeper because it happens with every major release.

The problem is in the way FDev releases their products.
  • No Customer or Beta Testing. Even if they had signed NDAs? Beta testing with a small group of active players would find these annoying "last minute" issues BEFORE they announced a release date. I know. I worked in software validation for 30+ years. There are formulas that determine when best to release based on validation feedback (a fairly simple bell curve).
These delays will continue until FDev realizes their current model isn't working and decides to value customer (Beta Tester) feedback.

I have taken part in a number of beta tests, they do these before major updates, since this isn't a major update they have probably used internal testers, this is acceptable for updates between major updates because beta testing costs money.

Good to know!
First I’ve heard of it from anybody.
Internal testing is probably great as long as they catch the bugs and don’t cause a delay.
I’m curious how you became a beta tester?

some of us do like NPCs with bite, please don't water it down too much.
At least we'll have a chance to relatively compare how strong these bites were. Since the existing game has no dangerous resistance from NPCs (it doesn't matter if it's a fight in CZ or AX CZ), many pilots just disarmed their ship to make it at least a little interesting to play.

Frontier has done several Beta releases over the years. Might not be known for people who started recently, but they have indeed run beta instances in past, particularly for major updates.

Would it be nice if Frontier ran a parallel set of instances for all new builds all the time? Sure. But it'd massively slow down how quickly content could be released (due to the overhead of managing it and pushing out builds as well as triaging feedback) which for Frontier isn't very fast to do as it is, and it'd eat into funding that could otherwise be spent improving the game and experience.

I am not going to fault Frontier for a few days delay to resolve an issue that would absolutely create a lot of frustration, either. Although the odd spicy NPC (as a result of PP allegiance) would certainly help make the universe feel a little more alive again.

Don't know how since we had a beta before the Odyssey update, and a beta before the FC updates, forget what that one was called, I took part in both of those, this is an inbetween update, a small one. Lots of people played in those beta tests.

I believe the current patch is being tested by the "partner" group. That's how those streamers have been releasing vids of the Mandalay and talking about how it performs. They're the ones that reported the over excited PP NPCs.

I find the idea of pledging a bit nonsense anyway. If I as a person constantly did things that stuck in the craw of some bigwig I'm certain I'd get bumped in the night whether or not I saluted someone's footpics if and when they were raised up a flagpole. On the other hand, if someone noted I was being a pain in the behind for someone and they decided to offer me a job for it I'd probably be inclined anyway.

The logic of "Oh, you trashed my settlement but that's OK, you're not pledged" is 🤪

At a guess, and I've not been checking out streamers recently to see PPV2, so I might be talking twaddle, but it looks to me that the NPC spawn conditions might be derived from the Thargoids, who always spawn in a location you enter from supercruise after a short while?
One time I tried to core mine in a thargoid controlled system to break the monotony.

Wasn't a pleasant experience because scouts keep spawning in even after I outran the previous spawn.

If it's going to be the same conditions, I may not be able to mine in 90% of the bubble if I'm pledged to Granny Torval. 😱
