Elite Dangerous Blocking System: A Call for Change

And what exactly did you learn/gain from that?

Give you an example:
...
What would be the point of me sparring with a 20 year old white belt and knocking him out?
...

O7

The difference here is real world vs totally fake imaginary fantasy sandbox with tools game world.

They are so not the same thing...and cannot be reasonably approached in the same manner...

Can you tell me what engineering can I do to avoid having my FSD disabled through shields? I don't believe there is such thing.
You can search the web for a lot of builds which are made known as "anti-gank" builds.
But okay I understand what you want. You want a hull which is reflecting every damage you take to your opponent. That's called a God mode.

I am not asking about an anti-gank build. I have over 5k hours in this game, 99% of those in Open. I know how to defend myself.

I have asked about a counter for Yuri Bombs. You've said specifically that it does exist and it's engineering. Now I am asking which engineering can counter the FSD disablers and you jump out with some hyperbolic gibberish. If this is the level you want to bring this discussion down to, then we have nothing to talk about.

[way too much stuff to comb through]
I'm sorry Morbad, but you can try to intellectualize and write dissertations about this until the cows come home, but trying (again) to shift the blame from those who act in a way that some people don't want to play with them anymore to said people using the block function disrupting your gameplay and thus being the one spoiling the game is just... it is utter nonsense. Just silly.

And I am again sorry, but I just don't buy this "deep down gankers are so nice and cuddly and the bestest of friends foreverest you can make if you just play along" spiel, I don't. I don't doubt that there exist people who make friends through being ganked... but I don't believe for a second that it is the norm.

I'm not shifting any blame. Those using the block function are the ones disrupting my gameplay.

I'm starting to think your misrepresentation of my position is deliberate. Apology not accepted.

yes, you are. Everytime somebody justifies their usage of the block function you try to talk them down with your whataboutisms and tell them they are the ones misbehaving.

none given. And I wasn't necessarily only referring to you. There are lots of people who tell that tale if it fits the narrative.

For the record I am flying in the CG system tonight. Was OK all evening, only got killed once out of maybe 10-11 trade runs. Nobody seemed to be blocking anybody, you could tell because the instancing was all OK with the same people in it all the time.

But then all of a sudden a wing of anti-gankers turn up and guess what? I keep ending up with those guys all the time, but no gankers around. What does that tell you?

That you have preferential matchmaking/instancing weight with them, for reasons that are impossible to infer with the information on hand.

It could be that you've encountered them before (Sandro, IIRC, once explained that matchmaking was biased toward previously encountered CMDRs), that you are on one or more of their friends' lists, that your ping to them is lower, that someone else has blocked them or you, or that they have someone blocked. I'm sure I missed a few possibilities.

Any or all of them could be contributors, but it seems clear that instancing is being fragmented, probably needlessly (from a technical perspective).

I want to play with all rule abiding players.
You can't. You will have to accept that you can either play with the ganker or the gankee. You will have to choose either, because the gankee might not want to play with the ganker anymore. But you would prefer for the gankee to not play with anyone anymore (go solo) so you can continue to play with the ganker. Or better, to be theoretically able to play with them.

Yes, because gankers blocking anti-gankers without caring about instancing is totally unheard of...

All correct.

But I think we can objectively rule a few of these out, and some other quite factually. That leaves only a couple of options on the table. Obviously I can't tell for sure, but I think I know which one might potentially be true in this case and considering the circumstances :)

:EDIT:

I'll provide another hint. I happen to have my carrier parked in the system with the prison megaship. When I'm in that system, I always happened to instance with the very same gankers that I cannot suddenly see anymore in the CG system when the anti-gank squad is around.

Hmm... 🤔

It's probably one of the most common uses of block, but it sounds like you think I have said something to the contrary of that at some point, when I never have. Indeed, I'm certain I've pointed it out more than once, probably more than a few times, almost certainly going back long before you joined these forums.

Well that would suggest a block being the culprit, probably one of the gankers that doesn't want to be harassed by the anti-gank forces.

This is a good example of how those who are not directly blocked can see the composition of their instances radically altered through use of block, and why I don't think players should have this sort of power.
