Elite Dangerous Classic

Who wants it?
ED, pre engineers, pre power-play, pre thargoids, pre horizons, pre everything.

Just a patched ED as it was when it was released.

I would :) Back to earning money the hard way

Ah, remember the good ole days? Things were better back then. No crime, no kids, no war, no social media, just peace and harmony. You could leave your door open. And we had proper entertainment back then, none of this newfangled malarkey

If you want a game that doesn't have updates then Elite might not be the game for you.

Just though about it and it was much less hassle back then. Sure its nice with updates.
But wasn't Elite more of a space combat simulator back then. Now its more like an exploit simulator.

I am gonna play like its 2013 :)

No thanks. The 1.0 release was really, really barebones. If you think there were no exploits at release then you must not remember how broken rares used to be.

I only joined past this point, but feel bad that I missed out on the graphical fidelity of both beta and first patch horizons.

I've only played post "optimisations", so don't have any screenshots from that level of fidelity :(

Tl: DR:
Progression fix -> Exploit fix -> Test -> Soft galaxy reset

Progression fix explained:
Without exploits the early game progression is too high imho, mid game about right (Asp/Vulture level) and late game too slow.
To quantify that, I can get from a new game to an Asp in 2-3 hours work skipping 14 of the cheapest 15 ships. To move from an Asp to a Python/FDL or T9 or whatever it's a good pace and encourages people to try different things like mining, exploration, combat, faction ranking etc or whatever they aren't doing. Late game where a re-buy is 20-30mil it feels slow and any death is significant so you'll be looking for ways to maximise cr/hr instead of using the ships how you want to.
Finally make repairs and fuel meaningful again so I don't automatically press fix all and fuel all as standard practice upon docking.

Soft reset explained
Soft Reset - Everyone can keep 1 ship and all the engineered stuff inside. Determined by the active ship on certain server reset Thursday, cmdrs advised to prepare accordingly.
You get back in your ship with 2 re-buys for said ship. All first discoveries etc are all kept as are data+mats gathered and statistics, faction rep, ranks etc.
Unpopular view and there's a lot of negatives involved in that but personally I'd like that.

Personally that'd do it for me, make progression fast enough to not get stale but slow enough to encourage diversification of activities. I'd like to keep Horizons Thargoids and Engineers but there needs to be a currency reset so everyone is on a level peg again. Powerplay is neither here nor there for me, not fussed either way.

Well, as a non-Horizons player i'm pretty close to that.
But tbh, i wouldn't want to loose long range plotting, NAV panel filters, selling whole pages of exploration data (instead of just one system at a time) and some other QoL improvements.
So, no thanks, no 1.0 for me.

No thanks.
If people feel the need to use exploits that's on them.
I'd be fine with fixing them, but no reset, no way no how!

I've earned what I have, so screw any thoughts of a reset.
The only time I'd even consider it is if FD decided to implement the DDF exploration mechanics, and that ain't gonna happen, not in this lifetime anyway.

What could be interesting is an Open Classic mode.
Uses the current build but ignores all Engineering upgrades.

Miss the progression, spending weeks at a time in the small ships working my way up to an asp.
All my systems are half tagged because 1.5 mill for the advanced scanner was extortionate when i could fully A rate a smaller ship for that so had to do everything by eye.
No Fugly Federal ships.
Good ol' days.

You know what you want? Starflight. It's literally the only reason I still have my Sega Genesis held together with wire and duct tape. Good Stuff.™
