Elite Dangerous Community Schedule W/C 31 May 2021

Unless you're being intentionally obtuse, I don't understand. There's clearly a delineation between external (community) news and internal (Frontier) news. 🤷‍♂️

What the community is getting up to (external) is demonstrably in a different pipeline than how the game is being developed/tweaked/patched/etc(internal).

I am not being obtuse, I want to know what is going on. Something I was expecting to see is missing from the only schedule of communication I am aware of. Hopefully all news no matter the source will be incorporated into a schedule of community events, just as the various trailers & launch of Odyssey were.

If there are two separate community schedules, one with game development news and one with only community created content your position might be more reasonable. AFAIK there isn't, so I am reasonably expecting to see game development news in this one.

What's even more annoying to a "fair few people" is the lack of civility some of folks seem to be taking up these past few weeks.

She very politely said "not my department." Job done. Let it go.

We've been told a roadmap will be released on 4 June. If you wake up on 5 June and there's no roadmap, have a whinge. Until then, pipe down, would ya?

We were told Oddity was anew release... Look how that ended... :)

I'd be more interested in knowing when we're getting the 2 year old fixes for Horizons... Some of us didn't buy into the lies..

Forgive me for being a touch pedantic, but we haven't been told to expect something "this week." We've been told a roadmap will be published 4 June. I have no expectations, nor am I owed anything before then. I understand that people are upset, what I don't understand is the hostility and passive aggressive poking going on.
To be even more pedantic, we were told BY June 4, not ON June 4.

Little old me is just hoping that there will be some....actually any news about consoles feeling a wee bit left out as a Console Commander. No updates for two months plus will keep fingers crossed for the roadmap 🤞may have something tagged onto a PC update lol

To be even more pedantic, we were told BY June 4, not ON June 4.
Our plan is to publish a road-map by 4th June as we continue to push forward addressing issues, including giving some details on specific improvements, building upon the fixes the team have already made.

What was provided was an estimate, not a guarantee. The situation may have changed since that post was written and a revised estimate based on newer, more accurate information may come.

Never really been a one for blind trust myself, I prefer to check & get confirmation that something is still on target rather than assuming things will be fine as we are being asked to do here.

Hopefully clarification will arrive sooner rather than later if the provided estimate proves to be inaccurate.

the updates for you all on Odyssey will come formally separate.
Why?

Community management functions should not be separate teams, or act like separate teams. Being unique in this way is not good.

You are the voice, the PR board, the interface between the development pipe line internal customers/process and the external customer, the community, as well as their most potent tool, the influencer. And I bring up influencers specifically because they all showed off that terrarium box and it infuriated me. (That gameplay isn't even worth doing because its just credits and codex I believe. plz fix.) You had time and budget to arrange that but you cannot server hack fix the engineer progression or say something about why it can't be fixed quickly or what the workarounds are?

There should not be two channels of communication for any particular game. In this case it only serves to focus frustration on one team, and sabotages anything the other team is doing because community, by and large, is going to will see "Fdev" as a singular entity and be focused on new things and issues after major releases. Its your job as CMs to figure out what those issues are and digest them for the decision makers internally. The issue tracker does not do your job for you.

I'm trying to stay respectful here but I just don't have will to say it differently, running the same ole newsletters and live streams is a waste of your time when there are progression stoppers and broken mechanics which ignorant people fall into every day. It is simply a waste of your hours when there are far more important statements to be making and information to collate. Even if those statements are as non committal as "we hear you about this invite not working and its number ? on our list to dev." Saying nothing gives us free rein to assume the worse. Saying "ok we get it, the Gal map needs help" or "data shows Odyssey engineering costs and progression is too fast/slow" instills confidence that someone cares. Doesn't have to amount to anything in the near term.

Do you know why we keep quoting old Braben interviews? "Valuing player time" comes to mind. Its because there are so few authoritative statements that are newer! It doesn't look like you are even featuring Odyssey gameplay in your streams scheduled above? Why not?! Don't make me guess. There are progression stoppers in the game and you are playing CQC and not FPS CZs. What conclusions am I suppose to draw from that?!

Even in your segregation from Odyssey news, you end up communicating a lot about it and its discouraging. I suggest a change of strategy. Talk, talk a lot, sympathize, be available, build a rapport, be honest, earn trust, persuade, and you'll be surprised just how understanding the silent majority can be. Or don't and then I suggest you say nothing and do nothing because hosting streams that I never had an interest to watch is a great use of resources during a crisis. /s

I wanted to make an entire slide show and write up about how the UX flow on Gal map works and whats wrong with it with a lot of diagrams on how to do a better with cutouts of the existing one. But I DO NOT TRUST FDEV to take advantage of such an intensive volunteer effort. Heck, I still don't know if it will be fixed ever! I trust the CM reading this to appreciate such a presentation should it be of sufficient quality, but I have no reason to believe it will go beyond that, and that's on you CM. I'm sorry. I might still do it just to see how it comes out but, eh its not my day job.

Sunlight is a the best disinfectant, unless your bosses fear it. In that case, message received as usual.

This all feels like:
You saw an ad from your local motorcycle shop for the latest model (insert your choice here). You hitch a ride from your friend, he drops you off at the shop.
You walk in with full payment. You and the dealer sit down, do all the paperwork, and now you are the proud owner of a brand new motorcycle.
The dealer says "Just a moment, we'll bring it around front."
3 guys come around the corner. 2 rolling a wheel each, and one carrying a seat, and some handle bars. They set them on the ground neatly.
The dealer says "Hop on! Isn't it beautiful?!"
Perplexed and unsure if this is a joke, you sit on the seat on the ground holding the handlebars. A wheel in front and a wheel in the back.
The dealer rolls out a small TV, and a fan. Turns the fan on pointing at your face, so you can feel the wind in your hair. He then asks you to watch some promotional videos on how wonderful your bike handles the curves.
You ask "Where's the rest of the bike? The frame, the engine?"
He says that it's still in production and asks you to please be patient. The rest of the bike will be provided incrementally over the next 6 months or so.
He thanks you for your understanding, patience, but especially for your money in advance.

Have to admit ain't got high expectations but that is what I'm expecting lol actually no lol its not that funny...

...no need in road maps. Just need fixes of everything. When you write map you do promises, then suddenly something "small" deep inside must be changes, and it is so deep so it will take 4 months. But you have road map ...so u do urgent fix just to make people happy. And then we have "release of Odessey".
Despite managers try to do programming does not work this way. It's more art then industrial factory.

It's not normal that we are not yet June 4th.
