FDev Development team, I would much prefer the Elite rank showed my 'true' rank, not an inflated one as a placeholder. If that means I go backwards so be it. I'm only interested in my own rank, if others prefer to keep the inflated rank that's fine by me.

I don't understand why are You so permissive? You've already worked for that progress, as we did too. Now we're not seeing our 'true' ranks, and the adapted ranks would not be 'inflated', only fair, just, equitable, normal and natural etc.
Here's an example: CMDR X had never bought an Atremis suit before, he is starting to research today. CMDR Y had already reached the Elite IV +99.9% level months ago, he just needs one single bacterium scan. Now the thing is, CMDR Y has to work almost twice as much as CMDR X to reach ELITE V. This is unacceptable.

I posted earlier in the thread that I was considering asking support to put my Salad rank back to Elite 3.5. The post you quoted was in response to your feedback from contacting support. I would prefer to have my progress continue (at a slightly faster rate & earning a lot more Credits as per 14.01 rules) and that is how all previous changes to Elite rankings have worked AFAIK.

I spent a year or so bio-scanning a system or two every day, and selling that data on my carrier. Steadily worked up to Elite 3.5. Then in two sessions (after 14 but before 14.01) jumped to Elite 4.5, then Elite V (maxed out) just by carrying on as I had before. The sense of achievement (fwiw) of reaching Elite V was completely lost & I would prefer to continue from my 'real' rank than never being sure I have really reached Elite V.

It is not a big deal, I am only expressing my personal preference. If you want to keep your rank I'm fine with that.

Oh, i see. I missed your whole story, sorry. It's obvious that data transmissions between U14 and 14.01 don't belong in this subject.

I don't care about titles and good deeds from the past. And NO: the holidays start tomorrow, and as i see it, nothing has happened here for WEEKS. There are 360+ posts, and Your favourite CM has 2 comments back in 9th december. That doesn't seem like a very 'close eye' as i quoted earlier.

I just turned in more data and I'm still Elite I.

I think the only the people that lost rank had horded a WHOLE LOT of samples knowing the increase was coming, never turning them in and then turning them all in the instant the increase dropped.

If you turned it in consistently all along, nothing happens to you.

Then the only other plausible explanation is that FDev hand picked some people they didn't like and nuked their rank just for kicks and grins.

I find that scenario highly unlikely.

It is possible if you handed in enough that you went from an undisplayed rank below Elite 1 back to some percentage of Elite 1 in one mighty bound.

As one of those that didn’t take advantage of the bonanza to increase rank I could do the experiment but I am not convinced enough that you are right to chance my hard earned rank.

How much I turned in and the ranks I achieved are all on this forum. Not only did I state them as I did them, but I've reposted it several times and people ignore it.

Simple fact is, when I discovered they hadn't upgraded the rank progress to compensate for the increased money, I stopped doing it. I knew at some point there would be a correction for it.

A great many other people kept piling it on. There's an entire thread of people laughing and having a great time turning in hundreds of millions of credits worth of biology samples and going up Mutiple ranks all the way to Elite 5.

They are the ones that got hammered, lost all that rank and are now upset about it. I turned in roughly 12 samples and gained 1.5 ranks up to Elite 1 with about 30% after that. All I lost was that 30%. That's it. I turned in a couple samples yesterday and nothing happened, so I'm right where I should be because I didn't keep piling it on and exploiting the error they made.

I posted my timeline some pages back that details what I did some time before U14 and since, I don’t have it in me to type it all again but in summary I was Elite (11%) prior to when 14.0 dropped. And now I’m Geneticist.

Then they made an error. File a ticket. That's simply not possible unless you turned in a lot of data AFTER the patch.

The easy way to tell who is who and who really did what is to post the INARA progress. Here's mine:

I was already out exploring when the patch dropped on November 29th. I had just made Elite III the day before and turned in my biological data at the same time. I was 75% of the way to Geneticist.

So a few days after the patch dropped, I wanted to see how much the payoffs had been increased, so I went out again and grabbed about 3 or 4 samples and turned them in. That took me the rest of the way to Geneticist.

At that point, I thought something was off. But being only 3 or 4 samples, I wasn't sure. So I went back out and grabbed 8 or 10 more samples and turned those in and BOOM! All the way to Elite I plus 30%.

I knew right then it was messed up and I completely stopped doing any exobiology at all until day before yesterday. It reset me to 0% of Elite, where I still sit as I type this even after turning in a few samples yesterday:

I just tested this out myself.

I got Elite I during the first round of higher payouts, before the ranks were adjusted, and I have not scanned anything or sold any data since.

Checking my journals, I can see that when I sold my last organic data, it was on Dec 6, and my journals say I was Elite 1 and 20% into it.

On Dec 7, according to my journals, my progress was reduced to 0%, although I remained Elite 1. I had not turned in any data, nor even scanned anything.

Today I scanned a Stratum and sold the data for 19 million.

I am still Elite 1, with 0% progress.

So for me at least, it appears to be working exactly as posted in the OP of this thread.

My rank is fixed at Elite 1 until I surpass the amount needed for it.

I'm happy enough with that. Seems pretty fair.

And just to put to bed the idea that this is made up, I just flew back to my carrier to turn in what I had done since yesterday. Here's the EDD estimate:

It took me nowhere. I'm still sitting at 0%.

This is the way it was supposed to work. I will sit here at Elite I at 0% until I make up the difference for the ranks I got. Since I didn't intentionally exploit the error to the point of absurdity, I didn't lose any rank at all.

Just saw @Codger's post as I was typing this that backs up exactly what I've said all along. Neither of us kept racking up hundreds of millions of credits worth of exobiology to game the system. That's why neither of us lost any rank, just the additional progress of that rank, until we make enough to pay for what it would have taken us to get to that rank to begin with.

Which, as @Codger says, is fair. I'm OK with that too.

It was not a conscious decision on my part. I was just tired of doing Exobiology for a bit, because I just got back from a long exploration trip and was taking a break.

I do plan to have another exobiology trip soon, though. I really enjoy it.

So for me at least, it appears to be working exactly as posted in the OP of this thread.

There is a chance (unless they fixed it server side) that when you cash-in upto around 1 billion, you will be demoted to Taxonomist

Even if that doesnt happen, you'd still need to cash-in to about 10bn till you start seeing any progress above Elite 1
then about 800 more millions to get to those 20% you were before the ranking nerf

The proper way would have been for your to keep your (Elite 1, 20%) progress - in which case you'd need like 3 billions to get to Elite 2 instead of having to cash-in 10-11 billions to get back where you were before the nerf then another 4+ billions to get to Elite 2

Absolutely agree. Response earlier in the week to my ticket inferred that my ranking (was Elite 11%) has been readjusted to align to the new values. Retrospectively. Not something I agree with. Where does that end? If that’s the case can I my credit balance retrospectively altered (all that data to Elite was old value). If FDEV are going to realign my ranking from day zero then why not the credits too?

But to hell with the credits that’s not my beef. It would be fair to freeze rankings on 29-nov at old values and proceed with new ranking scheme. I hope this is addressed but my ticket response does not lead me to believe it will be.

I should add I absolutely hate the idea of a cosmetic rank adjustment where I sit at zero until the background total catches up. I’ve been around on this game a long time and this is honestly the first thing that has left me rather shocked and disappointed, although the Oddy bookmarks-delete fiasco was painful.

I was doing exobiology because i was finding that fun running around to get biology and selling them to vista. I had only elite IV to elite V to do with your patch, now i have to do it from 0% geneticist up to elite V with your corrections..... not sure if the effort is worth the fun i had. There is no point for me to do any more exobiology. i feel like it will take me many months to have my final rank and i am not sure i will take them.

Even when you corrected mining, it didn't impacted players this way.

Can't you just make corrections before to implement something?
