Patch Notes Update Elite Dangerous: Horizons patch 2.0.04

Honestly? Half the world is using MTUs below 1492 because of (A)DSL and you realize that after more than a year?

Unfortunately some bright spark introduced a server "update" in the early hours of the 5th November last year that resulted in some of us experiencing almost 100% "transaction server" connection errors. The "work-round" of having us change our system's MTU to 1450 would indicate that perhaps FD were utilizing some larger size packets from that point and so far have not decided to change their server software to eliminate this behaviour. I find it very hard to believe that nobody in FD could identify this as the problem in over 2 months of "investigations".

Easily reproducible so I don't know why it would take so long to fix.

Sounds to me like they are busy making roller coasters.

I'm actually wondering if it's because the AI ships use too many modules at once and don't have big enough power-plants - I've seen some ships use everything at once (like railguns, lots of beams), then as soon as they do, they start spinning and stop dead in the water - I'm really wondering if it has something to do with the thrusters power-down due to the power-draw - could that be what's happening?

Client updated, servers `Upgrading` still, wonder what the hitch could be?

Any news on when the API will be fixed? its often not fetching market data for many outposts?

Easily reproducible does not mean easily fixable.

Additionally, we have unique offices for the development of Planet Coaster and the development of Elite Dangerous. So no, the Elite Dangerous crew is not working on Planet Coaster, and the same goes vice versa. :)

I don't know if it would be too much effort but maintaining a list of known problems would help I think. Some of the frustration with patches is not seeing the thing that's been bothering you and starting to worry it's been forgotten about.

.. also ..

Awesome! :))

But do we still need to enable "Firing deploy hardpoints" every time when we need to use SRV scaner?

Good one Mr Buttle, errr, Tuttle ... so, to recap a few of the top easy-win*1 bugs that people would like to have fixed (pretty please):

- Having to set "Firing deploys hardpoints" option in order for SRV data link scanner to work
- odd "Forward Only" HOTAS SRV throttle behaviour (e.g. coming to a stop at mid-throttle position)
- distance to Wing Beacon (and FSD wake?) no longer displaying
- new mission types apparently bugged (e.g. expected NPCs never turning up, mission specific cargo not accepted, etc)
- exploding SRV bug that's worrying Distant Worlds explorers among others

*1 "easy-win" as in "surely these can't be that hard to fix" (well not the first three anyway)

Tech patch? Meh booooring. I mean bugfixes are nice but new stuff is always fun. But yeah fixing bugs should be important even though it makes boring changelog. :p

All bug fixes are welcome. But I think they should be more focused on ones which are game destroyers atm (like broken missions, crashing in RES and most annoying SRV forward/backward trottle). I think those are the ones which should be eliminated ASAP and not some text & translation fixes which is from my point of view totally useless atm.

Exactly.

I would suggest after how long he's been around, that the colonel was being slightly flippant there. However it does still amaze me how many people do not realise the distinction.

They had me at:

 • Fix bug when determining network connection MTU causing assorted player-to-player connection problems.
 • Fix for network object ID exhaustion.

Thank goodness it's only your point of view that matters then.

Can you please reset the spawn rate of pirate hunt missions, our home station hasn't given a single one since the release of 1.5/2.0 and they are so rare everywhere else now they are practically non existant.

That's a shame cuz it would be fun if we had "rollercoaster" way to board the ship from the stations.

Maybe I should write "your point of view"? Or what part didn't you understand?

does anyone else has the problem that since this patch his combat rank has dropped by one? i fall down from deadly 25% to dangerous 20%......any clues for this mess?

No I completely understood that from your point of view they are totally useless fixes, I was merely pointing out that to others, the things that you say are "game destroyers" would seem like totally useless.

Did you file a bug report for that already? They will be able to look at your account and see what has happened.

Don't replot the current route just because the Galaxy Map is opened.

I honestly thought this was a feature. When the ship mass got different during the route, I just had to open the galaxy map to see it replotted according to the new mass.

Mmmmmyeah, I don't think you've quite fixed that MTU discovery bug yet. It certainly isn't doing PMTU discovery, since it doesn't even discover the MTU for the router (1472). It just takes the interface MTU - 16. I think perhaps FDev would be best served by doing a full PMTU discovery and at least setting their MTU according to what it can squeeze through to the matchmaking server.

(I've thrown in a workaround by setting the MTU of my interface to actual PMTU +16, which means the local MTU discovery hits the right number anyways)

Having said that, I would not object to having a roller coaster on a roid for our SRV...

I think that it was meant to be, but the knock on effect of it causing the computer to forget the destination and so therefore lose the route, was proving much trickier to fix. Simpler solution, remove the replotting of the route until it can be made to play nicely.
