"Elite Dangerous is dying"

But before I waste any more of my time with you, I'd rather work with people who are interested in real solutions.
You're not going to find any solutions if you're unwilling to recognize the problem.

Ultimately the only reason we have had so much post-launch fixes to the game is because of the backlash, claiming otherwise is frankly delusional. If not, please feel free to explain what would have incentivized FDev to put these resources into fixing the PC version without a backlash, especially given that by their own admission they are doing so and postponing the console launch because of it. In the end, such denial appears to be the only hysterical behaviour here.
So, you agree, the game won't last forever?
No, it won't. But it would have been nice if it had lasted a little longer, as have other games that are still going, despite having been launched long before ED.

Been hearing a lot of talk recently about how Elite is dying. I don't think this will happen any time soon. In my experience, for a game to die an adequate replacement must be available. Space sim nerds are always gonna play space sims, and if there isn't a replacement space sim game out there that does most of what Elite does, but better, the game isn't going to die.

I used to be a big Star Trek Online player back in the day. It used to be one of my primary games. The only reason why I stopped playing STO around 2014/15 is because another game came along and did most of what I wanted from STO, but better. That game was Elite Dangerous. Since then, I haven't really looked back since. So when I try to look around to find a replacement game that satisfies the parts of Elite that I love, I find nothing. The two other main games in the same genre as Elite feel more like side-grades than upgrades from ED, which isn't enough to get me to switch to them.

So no, I'm not really buying into this "Elite is dying" rhetoric currently being thrown around, at least for now ....
Been here a while now, too. I have read "Elite is dying/dead" ever since the summer of '15.

It's still here and so am I, Space Trucking 4 Life.

Note the word "intend" and the difference from a promise? Just ask yourself: How would you feel if someone called you a liar if what you intended to do 7 years ago, you have not been able to realise so far (which does not even have to mean that you will never do it in the future)? Just to remind you, the newsletter you refer to is from before the Premium Beta.
And the moral of the story is that you should engage a lawyer to read FDev newsletters on your behalf.

And in plain language, does that mean exactly what?
That you should read the small print. Claiming that VR support would not be released "at launch", for example, leads the reader to believe that if not at launch, it is slated for later release (why mention not at launch if you have no plans for it at all, after all?), yet apologists will correctly point out that there is no undertaking to release it ever, by strict interpretation of what is written. Of course, that does not make it any less of a deception, if you choose your words so as to give one impression when the reality is something completely different - that's why you have advertising standards - precisely to protect the consumer from misleading claims.

Unfortunately, as a result, I've learned to read every missive from FDev as if it were a legal document. This means that you effectively need to read anything said by them as a lawyer would, looking for those tell-tale phrases that allow them to imply something, yet give them an 'out' from ever delivering, as with the use of the term "intend". Once you do this for a while, you quickly realize they rarely, if ever, commit to anything.

Commander [VR] James,

Thank you for your posts, they teach me how to be a more discerning consumer. And it is getting far more complicated in this age of selective social media! There are many many more people that read at these forums than actually post. While you might be frustrated at times, your efforts are not unnoticed. And hopefully, not only by users, but also by less than happy Fdev personnel as well. Perhaps some of us who express our criticisms are a small voice for them, too.

There is no doubt that you love the game. None of us would be here if Elite was not dear to us.
