Well, here we are. Frontier Developments is moving Elite: Dangerous onward, but has decided to let Horizons 3.8 live as Legacy Horizons. Thank you FD! :)

I hope to see FD establish a dedicated sub-forum here, and I hope to see the 1% die hard legacy commanders consolidate around what I consider the pinnacle of Elite: Dangerous.

Sign in here, and let's see what kind of shenanigans the Legacy League can get up to.

See you in the black, legacy commanders! 07

I have very mixed and divided feelings about Frontier's decision. I'm trying to be positive, but CGs were my favorite (and these days pretty much only) gameplay in Elite, and now that's gone. "Legacy" is just the politically-correct term for "abandoned". Yes, they are leaving the servers turned on, and I am thankful for that, but they won't be putting any effort into those servers going forward, and that's sad. A true Legacy mode would continue to have Legacy CGs and Galnet (less Thargoids, more human politics). Considering that Frontier continues to sell Legacy Elite on console, marketing it as a "living" game, I think it's not too much to ask that they assign one person to take one afternoon a week to continue providing Legacy content.

One person is too much costs for them. The most they'd probably give you is giving CG/Galnet control to some volunteer, but then again that might be equivalent to shooting themselves in the foot. Chances are high that a volunteer makes for a better dungeon master than FDev, and as a result people might go to the legacy server more often. I'm pretty sure this is not what they want.

would still be better than nothing though
I'm not arguing that at all, I'm just saying it won't happen.

Speaking of, I have some questions I've been meaning to ask but not sure where to ask them (I'm loath to start a new thread). Just how much of the BGS is automated? For example, I know the construction of new space stations is possible in Elite, but is this a BGS-triggered automatic system, or is something Frontier needs to push a button to make happen? Same goes for things like damaged stations and Thargoid aggression - will we see any more stations on fire in 3.8, or is that also abandoned gameplay like CGs?

Reading the comments so far, I think the title of this thread should be changed to "Odyssey Moaning League". LOL
Hey, speaking of, there's another cool idea for the Legacy League: make it open-only. By oath only, of course, not technical restrictions.
