I'm afraid that this is the plan.Having all "legacy players" in one place will give them more of a indicator to kill it off when the player base gets too low

They don't need a forum thread to know those numbers. I'm hoping we are many hence the need for the recent changes.Having all "legacy players" in one place will give them more of a indicator to kill it off when the player base gets too low
For years (some) PC players said they wanted the option to have multiple saves just like console players. The post on steam says:
"Every player will have a Legacy Commander profile created from their existing profile with separately tracked progress when Update 14 is released. Legacy mode will be accessible from the launcher as a separate download from the Live game.
Whilst there will be no new narrative content such as GalNet or Community Goals, you will still be able to affect the galaxy via the background simulation. Actions in Legacy Mode will not affect the Live game."
So, yeah... Looks like everyone gets two saves now. That's cool. I'm sure I'll use them all to some extent.
In legacy mode you can also affect the BGS, if you're into that sort of thing...
Just no more galnet or curated CG's in legacy mode.
Player organized CG's seem totally doable.
Yup.For years (some) PC players said they wanted the option to have multiple saves just like console players.
As a console refugee, I can tell you this is nothing like what console users get in regards to multiple saves. It actually has more in common with me building a Krait Phantom in Space Engineers than it does with multiple console CMDRs.For years (some) PC players said they wanted the option to have multiple saves just like console players.
I believe it's down to the developers to decide whether to support both legacy and live (afaik support is there in the log file but obviously the sites need work to store data separately for both and support choosing between them). I think I read somewhere that inara would only support live (apologies if I'm wrong about that).Do third party applications like EDDB and Inara work for 3.8 or it is obsolete?
The BGS is the BackGround Simulation basically its a tally for all the actions that happen the the galaxy, when people do things for the local factions its tallied up and this can reault in them expanding or failing. With it being out of our control will make it all the harder to stop groups undermining someones factionI love this thread!
What is BGS and
should I care?
I know silly, I was just being silly..The BGS is the BackGround Simulation basically its a tally for all the actions that happen the the galaxy, when people do things for the local factions its tallied up and this can reault in them expanding or failing. Right now they share a BGS, after the split they will not. But already even before 4.0 existed, because there is no crossplay, players could take BGS actions against each other on a totally different platform with no direct interaction between them. This will continue on the Legacy server as it always has.As someone who occasionally fires up his XB1X and played ED 3.8 is still Elite, the one thing i still dont get is from Bruceys post it looks like 3.8 and 4.0 share the BGS so basically making it even worse for the BGS players to defend things as 4.0 players might be defending against a wong of 3.8 people that will never be in the same galaxy
Yeah the BGS is a mess tbhRight now they share a BGS, after the split they will not. A lot of the mess is caused by everything 4.0 broke about it. I hope this separation will restore it to functioning as it did previously in 3.8Yeah the BGS is a mess tbh

At the risk of repeating myself, I'd love a fully rebooted Legacy Server - no PMFs, no fleet carriers, no discovery tags, just the Bubble as it was first created - a clean slate, as they say.A lot of the mess is caused by everything 4.0 broke about it. Interesting idea. But i'm going to reboot Odyssey part and preserve old Horizons one. Maybe I'm more familiar with this old one.At the risk of repeating myself, I'd love a fully rebooted Legacy Server - no PMFs, no fleet carriers, no discovery tags, just the Bubble as it was first created - a clean slate, as they say.
I know it won't happen, but still, it's fun to dream.
