Yeah That what I did, If Steam removed them I could just put it back so the launcher not download it againI honestly don't know. So you're backing up the Legacy game folder to save yourself the download?

For Steam installation it works, I may confirm this, because I have archived all library folders and recovery is a piece of cake.Same, me too.
I just copied Legacy game files to another folder so when Steam uninstalled it I just could put it back to the game folder and it wont re download legacy again. I hope it's works thought
One thing is required is:Yeah That what I did, If Steam removed them I could just put it back so the launcher not download it again
Let's just be thankful we still have Legacy at all. This is NUTS !
just to remove Legacy and then have to re-download it WHY.
I will tell you Fdev is trying to remove and harass as many Legacy users as possible.
My internet is not that fast and I have a limit cap on my monthly data, so this will be a hardship on me.
I love Legacy and still think Odyssey stinks
Yep, I'm in a similar (though not quite as drastic) boat. I was going to keep Legacy installed for those occasional VR sessions, but now I think I'll just uninstall it save my bandwidth and hard drive space for other games. I'm sure Frontier doesn't care, since Live is where they desperately want everyone to go. This might even be a preemptive move to shutting down Legacy for good; not next week, but perhaps by year's end.Oof, one of my group just hit the snag of the new default Steam install coming next week.
They are in one of the most remote places, with really low speed satellite internet. Downloading takes an age, and now going forward they will need to spend literal DAYS downloading every new 4.0 update they are never going to touch, before they can play Legacy with us.
That makes a lot of sense actually.I honestly don't know. So you're backing up the Legacy game folder to save yourself the download?
Because of Steam's poor handling of downloads where you don't get the same options you have with a standalone launcher of choosing what you install. This is NUTS !

Messy, but at the end of the day I'm just thankful we still have Legacy. So the update happened, and Turn out Steam need to download Live version first, It doesn't care that I already Installed Live already. 100GB of disk space wasted in total

The legacy launcher just remains stuck on preparing for update for me (which doesn't even let me exit without killing the process), not sure if it's a linux thing or not.
Man If my PC powerful enough to run DXVK, I will ditch Windows nglIt finished for me and it didn't even rename the odyssey folder! The proper way to do this could be to rename the Products/elite-dangerous-odyssey-64 folder to something else, start the install close steam after it makes some progress, rename it back and then see if it accepts the old files as already downloaded.

"We" has just become a smaller group than it already was thanks to this move. If "we" means "you", then I'm happy for you, of course.Messy, but at the end of the day I'm just thankful we still have Legacy.
While I have my issues with Steam, I don't blame Steam for this mess. Frontier is the one who decided to pretend an entirely new and different game is just "DLC", which is why we are in this mess.Because of Steam's poor handling of downloads where you don't get the same options you have with a standalone launcher of choosing what you install.
My complaint would be if that installer was slow compared to Steam's very fast download speed. I absolutely hated MSFS' installer for a long time, because it was both terribly slow (might still be) and also required a stupid amount of processing power while running in the background. If the game's installer is crap, then I much rather Steam handle things. In an ideal world the default installation on Steam would ONLY download the Frontier launcher and it'd then download what you choose when you run it, the way some other games handle their installs on Steam, but I expect Frontier would see one or two people whining about Steam not completely downloading the game in the background and needing to manually run the launcher to update it every time. I have several games which work like this though and have never had an issue with the system.
Not working, after validation "Odyssey DLC" is checked on and Steam try to download whole s**** again.Okay I think I fixed it by renamingFORC-FDEV-DO-38-IN-40
folder intoelite-dangerous-odyssey-64
. Then deleteappmanifest_359320
And restart Steam, It will verify the game and not download it again. Also Legacy is still there, not uninstalled or anything like they said in the Update News
Sorry to hear that it isn't working for you, Commander. I hope to see you back. 07Not working, after validation "Odyssey DLC" is checked on and Steam try to download whole s**** again.
Bye Elite i don't have enough space on SSD for keeping both. Welcome Witcher 3 NexGen... his time coming now.
Have fun people, my patience finally ran out.
o7 for all, cmdr Conan02 out.
My question is will legacy players have to do this every time?Well I, for one, am impressed. Apart from the nuisance of having to install Live/Odyssey in order to install Legacy in order to un-install Live/Odyssey, everything worked flawlessly. Even my key bindings survived the switch.
Thank you FD. I'm a happy camper.
