Elite Dangerous need to get serious about Cross Platform.

I'm all for players from all platforms that can use the same game.
What I'm not crazy about is when different player factions from different platforms go against each other in a war or an election where you cant see them or combat them as they are on a different platform.
Recently we lost our station and control of a system of a PC player faction to a PS4 player faction in an election/war . How do you fight a "player faction" if you cant see them as they are on a different platform. The reality now is that now they know they can steam roll us, They will look to take the rest of our hard fought and worked for systems as well like a greedy take take take cancer faction. They cant have the rest of the galaxy but they have to prey on our systems and we are unable to interact with them in game.
This rubbish needs to be sorted out and is ruining mine and other players in our groups gameplay.
Either
1. Make xbox, PS4 and PC all have their own galaxy to work in and interact separately
or
2 Make cross platform a reality so all platforms can see each other in game and it becomes a level playing field

I like playing against AI and I like playing against human player groups, but how do you compete with a human player group you cant see or have combat with.

Frontier have done this on the cheap to grab the console dollars and I get that , greed is good. But for game play it totally sucks as there is no game balance.
Either you make cross platform a reality like every one can see everyone like in other cross platform games i.e. sea of thieves. or give each platform its own server to interact with.
Its only a computer server. its not hard and your making a bundle of cash supporting a galaxy. get it done.

You fight against them using the BGS, which is the single most efficient way to do it. Not hunting down other ships which may or may not be hurting your faction.

Playing the BGS isn't a "fight other players directly". This is explicit in nearly everything FD says about the BGS.

Playing the BGS isn't a "fight other players activity".
.... and Frontier have been clear, from the outset, on their stance. Here's a quote from 2015, around the time that player supported Factions were going to be introduced:
Is there planned to be any defense against the possibility that player created minor factions could be destroyed with no possible recourse through Private Groups or Solo play?

From the initial inception of the game we have considered all play modes are equally valid choices. While we are aware that some players disagree, this hasn't changed for us.

Michael
More recently Frontier reiterated their position in a stream and subsequent recap thread:
Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCy1ZYjLvdQ&t=850

The Background Simulation (BGS) is a representation of how the actions of all players, no matter on which platform or mode, impact the galaxy. The factions that inhabit these system battle for influence over the population and control of the starports, installations and outposts. Player actions can push these factions into various states; such as economy, security, health and influence. With concerted effort players can help grow a faction's economy, destroy its security status, or help win a war.

no your not fighting other players directly in the bgs when your playing against AI. so your analogy is stupid. When your playing against other "human players" that actively interact in the game, you should also be able to interact with them in the game, kill them, disrupt their bgs plans etc .
I would have thought this would actively assist to improve the game but I see now that any positive feedback is discourged as it means work for Frontier.
"Players impact affects the world around them." But the players faction in the ps4 world is different to the pc world which is different to the xbox world.
Why do I bother with this sort of mentality. nothing will change.

You don't understand what the BGS is then.

Here you go. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threa...treamer-on-fleet-carriers.520829/post-7980684

If we pretend for a moment that both factions are happily playing in open on their respective platforms and want to come up against each other, then I think this would have been preferable anyway. If not then your opposition would be in solo/PG and it wouldn't matter.

However, yes I personally would love an opportunity to point some weapons at my PC/Xbox opponents that want to BGS in open and I'm sure I'm not alone in this.

Huh, I was of the opinion Player Factions-like any other Faction-Require the BGS system to function, I think the issue here is, your Player Faction lacking the man-power and dedication to operate your BGS, Killing another player does absolutely nothing except hinder them a little and potentially puts you on a hit-list nevermind the fact these players, despite being on PS4 may have been in a Private Group to begin with making the argument mute, (and it's very clear, FDev will not be alienating Solo and PG players), sure you can hinder them, but without actively working your BGS, you're going to lose regardless.

Let's take Wolves of Jonai for example, they didn't become one of the largest expanded Player Factions doing PvP, they have the man power and dedication to use the BGS system and fight wars with NPC and Player Factions, Player-to-player Faction Politics is handled through social media, they don't need to go on a crusade against the enemy players to win their wars, they operate their BGS and come to conclusions if the PF is willing to talk, be it form an Alliance, or Cease-Fire.

Factions are not controlled in any way by players - and any Factions inserted at the request of a player group are handled in exactly the same way as NPC Factions by the BGS.

PvP in this game has always been an optional extra - and every player bought it on that basis.

Indeed - Frontier's stance does not seem to have changed in over seven years since they published the game design at the beginning of the Kickstarter pitch.

I agree with OP, that PS4 needs to cross-play with PC, so that I can finally multicrew with myself! I'm tired of having empty seats all around me in large ships. This would also make it easier for me to take friends out in my ship in VR - they can ride in second seat in VR and I can fly on PS4, allowing them to look around at their leisure and experience this awesome immersion, many for the first time.

Would be great if they also alow players to decide what control options they would come across.
Other cross platform games let you select if you wish to meet other players in multiplayer who are using KBM or Jstick or Controler or Dont care.
I would even say this would be welcomed by quite a few just on PC right now.

I use KB/M plus a controller, so how would that work?
