Elite Dangerous Odyseey and the forgotten console players.

I honestly can't speak for that, man. I have absolutely zero idea how they go about their business in-house, but from the outside looking in, its definitely not working. I know from what I've read on occasion about the Cobra engine is that its a PC-first setup that the developers work on, and then they port from there. I can only think that the new or updated version they're using for Odyssey got horribly broken somewhere during development, or maybe its even just something as simple as an extra zero got added somewhere and they can't find it. I genuinely have no idea.

I do know that I run games on my PC (not many, despite what Boppa thinks about my master-racyness, I'm actually primarily a console player, I really just use the PC for Elite, and only upgraded it to monster specs when I couldn't get my hands on a PS5) that are far more advanced and demanding than Odyssey is, and I never have the remotest issue. Playing Far Cry 6 with everything cranked up to ultra, my fans don't even turn on. With Odyssey, even using their subsampling stuff and running it at 0.75 resolution, my PC sounds like a hoover.
Hmm, back to topic, the video is for me, a totally agreement. For all of us, let us hope that they don’t lose their efforts( stakeholders) to briNG EDO in a good mood.

but was nice to talk, as I mentioned before arguing good and further more, is more important for me. Your points are valid for me. But the OP and his video as although OA and D2EA couldn’t be wrong, many consoles cmdrs and anybody else couldn’t be wrong.

the core aspect of this is,

Lack of information, lack of registration, lack of involvement and so many other lacks, related to the consoles, there is no doubt Fdev has now the chance to restore faith or trust.

the new questions since weeks isn’t the release date or something in this direction. It’s the question, will elite have a future on consoles ? Will EDO come to consoles, are they still planning the release ? And I i think when they could clearify this, many of us would be stay calm. Shouldn’t they change their direction now ? They will loose many cmdrs, who are willing to pay for this, I think it’s calls Fanbase ore loyal community, something which Fdev now could give back.

Here's a conflict zone running on Medium settings on a GTX970 (more specs in the video description)

I want to point out one thing: It's around 30fps almost the whole way through, which I believe Console folk have been used to in the past. But the frame rates jump up by 10-15 fps the instant the last enemy is killed. (Watch the FPS counter from the 16m mark)

Seems to me the NPC AI in combat is severely draining performance. At once stage I though it might be the game engine tracking all the shots, but that can't be the case when there are 20 allies and 1 enemy left, and barely any gunfire. But when that last enemy falls it's like someone flipped a switch, and we're at 45-55fps.

This could also explain the sudden (brief) lag when you fly a ship over any occupied settlement - all the AI go into alert mode at the exact same moment, checking out the threat, and then revert to normal.

ETA: I was recording 1080p video at 60fps on the same machine, which also impacts the frame rate.

As a once fairly popular console content creator for Elite Dangerous, I have held my view on Odyssey to myself to a lessen extent. But after the 2021 End of Year update and the release of Update 9, I felt I really need to jump back in the creator chair and share my thoughts, as I real feel Frontier are letting console players done with the absolute blackout on information, despite there numerous promises to get much much better at said communications.

Any in case a short video to aire my and other views..... enjoy :)
Also yes, I know I spelled the title wrong!

Try to look on the bright side.... when Odyssey is released for console, in all likelihood, it will be a stable running affair.

PC players are now 9 updates in, and while substantial progress has been made, there is still a way to go.

I've found myself playing more EDO as it has improved, but just as recently as today, I was playing EDH because in my opinion, it still looks and plays better when inside a ship cockpit.

For what it's worth, I also have a console account (PS4).

I'm guessing it has more to do with the enemy and friendly AI constantly calculating movement paths as well as tracking the targets on the battlegrounds. After the combat is done, the friendly troops stop that and return on a more leisurely path finding.

Yep that's what I meant by this bit: "Seems to me the NPC AI in combat is severely draining performance."

Let's be frank, you've no idea about how Odyssey runs on consoles because you don't work at Frontier.

Ofc not.
But to have a decent EDO experience i had to ditch a gaming laptop with i7-9750h (6c/12t up to 4.5GHz), GTX1660Ti/6b, 16gb ram, SSD.
That laptop is waaay better than XB1/PS4 and sort of comparable with PS5/XBX (minus ray tracing part). Yet it failed to properly run EDO in 1080p upto U7

Now, i have a Ryzen 9 5900H paired with an RTX3080/16gb - and i'm quite happy with EDO now.

OK, I skimmed through the thread and there seem to be two possible explanations of the fact that Odyssey hasn't been offered for consoles:

1. FD are prejudiced against console players.

2. Getting Odyssey running on consoles is hard.

The present situation fits either explanation, so my suggestion is to just pick the one which seems more likely.

They could both be true.

Plus there's no 3. getting Odyssey running on Windows is very hard (it seems)

Option 2 please.

Bizarre, isn't it?

As others have said, I think not even mentioning it in the "Here's what's coming in 2022" statement was really odd.

Well... did they actually mentioned anything except the already announced Carrier Interiors?
No?

However, people seem to miss the opening paragraph:

We will have a full Development Update in January 2022, and lay out our plans for communicating with you through updates, streams and social channels.

So we will have our news, at least for Q1 2022 in that Dev Update mentioned above.

It's in the console players best interest to bring the game to a place where it's much more reliable and fleshed out, at the moment we're all playing a alpha game. Releasing it now on consoles would be a huge mistake.
