You know you're wrong. They definitely would not put in all the effort required for 2.8% of the playerbase that enjoys VR, believe me. VR in Elite is dead. You may still enjoy it in Horizons and such, but won't be able to land on planets with atmospheres. Ice planets? Better graphics? And so on, you name it. It will be just like playing the base game in a Horizons world with Engineers, and we all know how that sucks in comparison.

O7,
🙃

nah, the only truly great part of the game is killing goids and that is in Horizons. I dont want the FPS stuff and already dislaike going to planets so I'm good. VR is still gonna be supproted in Horizons so I've got my goids. FDEV wont get our money for Odyssey but i'll spend that much on ARX probably so win win really

Assuming Odyssey and Horizons aren't two entirely separate games, then at least it looks like we get a graphics buff across the board, so hopefully we'll enjoy better lighting and textures (and maybe even better surface procgen) in Horizons as well, which we can enjoy in VR.
Possible but I would not bank on it.

IF this is a full price title (with possibly £10 discount if you how horizons ) it could be that Horizons is put into maintanence with no changes and players encouraged to move to new game... Albeit both games accessing BGS data

How many of those are elite dangerous? I was talking about expected features in ED not in at launch. Old duck made 1 pertinent example. PSVR on PS4. They didn't say never, they said not at launch.

Maybe moan at VR hardware makers for slow hardware evolution or not having standardised on inputs yet or Graphics chipset makers for putting their top tier out of reach for most people in the last few years. The VR industry is a mess and should take some responsibility.

No VR? Are you kidding me? Elite was the sole reason I got into VR, I refuse to play ED without it, this is beyond a disappointment. My vision was to play with my HOTAS then put on my motion controllers, click a button to uncouple my avatar, physically stand up and use my thumbstick to walk-run around. There is just no comparing the immersion. I really hope you guys have plans to implement this because it's a game changer. Just ruined my day...thanks

Burnt out on Horizons, so was REALLY looking forward to anything new. What a bummer.

Knowing that VR remains in Horizons is a big help. And the more I look at the info about Odyssey, the more I'm getting the impression this is basically a separate game, an FPS, that can be accessed through ED. I mean, if you think about it: what's the chance you can even fly your ship onto the planet? Imagine ganking like that, flying around with a large hardpoint shooting players as they run around on the surface lol.

I just wish Tim could elaborate a little more on how intermixed the current base/horizons gameplay is with Odyssey, because if it's "not intermixed at all; they are separate gameplay sessions entirely", then by golly I'm a-ok with that. A bit sad that will probably mean no new ships or whatnot, but honestly I've had a hankerin' for a good FPS recently so I'd be fine with ED scratching both my space sandbox itch AND my fps itch, separately. It would be no different than if I were playing ED, turn ED/my VR headset off, and then go play Paladins. The difference would be I'd just re-launch ED and go into Odyssey.

Is Elite Dangerous: Odyssey coming to VR?

Currently, Elite Dangerous: Odyssey will not be VR-compatible at launch. We’re big fans of VR and we are truly proud of the amazing experience that we currently offer in Elite Dangerous. However, the new gameplay, mechanics and features that will be introduced with Elite Dangerous: Odyssey means that we had to re-examine if we could deliver that same experience without compromise, which, for launch, means Odyssey will not be VR-compatible.
Cheers for the answers, Tim.

"For launch" implies further information. Is VR support being developed for an Odyssey-update post-launch?

VR is a major feature for Elite - it's widely regarded as one of the best VR games available - so axing VR support from future expansions would be extremely unwise imo. VR would be unfortunately be added to the perceived ever-growing-pile of abandoned features.

As Horizons will still support VR, what happens when one wants to play in VR: logout of Odyssey then login to Horizons?

Considering the enormous goodwill and enthusiasm yesterday's announcement brought it'd be very disappointing to apply the handbrake. 2 steps forward, 1 step back etc. Killing the golden goose is counter productive.

If production is tight with the Elite devteam being fully utilised already, then this is a good reason as any for FDev top-brass to expand the devteam further.
