I understand that for a small number of players who play in VR, the lack of its support is a disappointment. But it is extremely difficult to make it for such a thing as space legs, starting from the possibility of at least some computer to rrun it, ending with the complexity of development and complexity with the balance. Players should now be busy not throwing excrement at the FD for VR, but asking questions. And the main question is whether the interiors of ships and stations will be implemented, because gamestar writes that we will only be able to walk on planets. In this case it is a complete disgrace to the FD and disrespect to ALL players

I'm not interested in space legs on ships or station interiors in VR.

I don't play flat. Plenty of other VR titles to spend money on. I have no interest in regression.

Talking of regression, it's exactly why I havent bought a VR headset .. yet. Too many visual compromises. Would hate to see game development held back by that fledgling industry. Before anyone says Half Life Alyx, that is exactly the desperation the industry is in and look how long that took to make!

lol have you seen the growth VR has been experiencing? It is obvious that you are biased against VR

I’ve just been getting my head around @Tim Smith post since my last comment and realise how daft I have been.
Premium beta backer, pc purchase with full vr rig, new Oculus s upgrade, dozens of paint packs, ship kits, uniforms; visits to Lavecon, 23 voicepacks. I have had fun but invested too much in a game where the main contributor doesn’t care about its players. I’ve spent years defending Frontier but this time feel they have gone backwards.
I’m glad I don’t have to pay for the DLC, will install it for a look, but can’t help feel I will be looking for a new game before this time next year.
David Braben was such a visionary but I feel he now needs specsavers on a retainer

Is Elite Dangerous: Odyssey coming to VR?

Currently, Elite Dangerous: Odyssey will not be VR-compatible at launch. We’re big fans of VR and we are truly proud of the amazing experience that we currently offer in Elite Dangerous. However, the new gameplay, mechanics and features that will be introduced with Elite Dangerous: Odyssey means that we had to re-examine if we could deliver that same experience without compromise, which, for launch, means Odyssey will not be VR-compatible.

Just to add to this, VR will still be compatible with the base game and Horizons!

Thanks for letting us know now Tim, it’s appreciated.

Some clarity on these points would be appreciated too at some point :)

  • Will VR players be able to fly in VR near the new assets coming with Odyssey? IE over the new planet surfaces etc?
  • Will they be able to see Odyssey players? (IE player figures on the ground).
  • Has any skunkwork been done on VR with regards to Odyssey?
  • Would FDev consider allocating more resources to a potential VR port if enthusiasm was apparent in the VR community?
  • Would 'unofficial' support be considered for launch, in the sense of allowing basic mods which triggered Cobra’s native VR support (to allow hardy VR vets to play via the classic control scheme? ;))

I would like to see a bit more clarification on some of the statements for VR use in Odyssey.

I play in VR and for the past three years my Elite: Dangerous stream has been the most watched on Twitch. Since keeping track in a optional survey in 2018, over 320 people have bought over 400 VR headsets because of asking questions about VR and many play Elite: Dangerous because of seeing it on my stream.

Can any portion of Odyssey be played in VR, or is it just the on-foot parts that do not have it?

What is the standard gameplay loop for this? Do we select to switch to on foot, get a notification to take the headset off and then when we decide to get back in the ship, vice-versa and put the headset back on as seamless as we can?

Right now if I switch to flat screen, and then back to VR, it resets my screen res to a 1280x768 VR mirror window every time, will this be changed because it has been a bug fix request since the beginning in 2014, and has yet to be changes, will it be changing back and forth but do it seamlessly between VR and non-VR on foot gameplay and so I dont have to reset my stream window back to full screen each time for my viewers?

Is there a reason for possibly not having it enabled, but with a warning for those that might not be able to deal with VR sickness, but tie the aiming reticule to head-look like the planetary probe launcher used to do in beta 1 of the 3.3 update before that was also removed?
