Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Hotfix 3

I think I hate the new outfitting UI. But I'm not sure if I just hate having to change my muscle memory. If it was a new game altogether, I'd probably just put up with it and figure it out and get used to it without complaining.

I'll see if I still hate it after a few weeks.
My main complaint about it is they have REMOVED critical functionality from it and made it harder to use, less intuitive, more likely to sell a module by default, give less information and made the process more diffficult. I am not against a UI looking different but when it makes a task worse by a country mile i would like to see it improved.
Don't want it rolled back (though that would be easier) but want it to work better than what it replaces if it doesn't get rolled back. At present it is much much worse.
 
So many things to fix in this BETA, that i wonder when will more content be ready?,
With the current content many players will be bored very soon , me included.
Don't feel like grinding for materials on bases, points of interest etc, that are already always the same... just to outfit better and do the same repetitive CZ combat mode just faster and easier!
I do of course understand the priority should be bugs, as a developer that i am, i also understand there is a lot to do, and a day of work can only have our full attention half of the time on better days that is.
But what i don't understand is why Frontier is insisting on only having small teams for so many things to cover, get your Million Pounds received and use them to contract more and preferably experienced developers per certain areas lacking, if your seniors and managers cant handle this , then they must go and be replaced!

  • Improve Server engines and services to allow multiplayer and cross platform
  • Improve and use newer techniques and rendering engines and APIS (DX12, Vulcan) keeping the fallback on DX11 for compatibility, but at same time leave room for newer handling even on New Gen Consoles!
  • Implement new industry standard techniques on your engine, otherwise just start thinking replacing the engine completely, since as it seems you already have a lot of separation of concerns on different servers
  • Stop thinking you have a product for life , you don't! Sooner rather than later will appear other projects release with much more to offer than Elite has at the moment.

Feel sad this is like this but as a long hours playing Elite gamer i do feel this Odyssey stuff is not giving us what this years been wafting for ...

This is of course my opinion, other may have different ones, we live in a democracy!

is still not working for Apex shuttles stuck because of ring on the planet.

Can your team please prioritize the repositioning request from Cmdr ?

only if found cloned profiles than I agree. There must be an escalation. At first they should warn you and give you a fine.
AI needs to distinguish intentional from unintentional since the illegal mode is built in the original scanner.
but the AI gives you a formal warning they just dont fine you beforhand, if you have a gun out they say "put that away" same happend to me when i had the overcharge tool out on accident.

The reaction time is too short. If you don't hear it the first time they start shooting and again there shouldn't be a lethal reaction for a first scan request.
 
Let me know how that goes and for extra fun try and find one with a specific engineering in your store while you're about it and if you want even mooooarrr fun try doing maybe 6 or 7 module changes at one time. Then let me know how good it is and how it's better.

3 Hotfixes in less than a week, please thank the devs for working so hard on this some of them must have barely slept.

Very small updates it seems as if only like 5 people is working on this project , sorry , but to say this , i have a team of 4 that handles in a week more bugs than this guys! unless its really only like 5 devs working on this , then what is the team of Frontier composed of??
 
Ok, missing boxes & lifts are loaded now. Still VRAM sits at 19% use ...not sure why, maybe u just reserve & don't use couple gigs...
Now time to fix fps / culling.

"further fix" <<< what is that? Either it is fixed or it is not fixed. There is no fixing and further fixing. It's a binary thing by definition.

Looks more like "last patch there were SOME Orange Sidewinder fixes" and "now we fixes some other Orange Sidewinder errors".

Basically appeasement notes instead of actual useful information on players issues.

Sadly, in complex systems, "fixed" is nowhere near binary. There's always another corner case. So this means that more corner cases were identified and fixed.

I think a rollback makes sense, giving time to get the new one right as there's virtually nothing about it that is required for Odyssey content (and the on-foot UI that is necessary for Odyssey is mostly completely new anyway).

Then a revised UI that incorporates all the functionality of the old one & the style & design language of the new one / carrier one can go in later when it's actually ready to go. Currently I have to switch to horizons for some features because they simply aren't there in Odyssey (eg paying off bounties at Interstellar factors).

By all means iterate on the new design language but the old one was the result of years of iteration & discarding all of that when so much else of the game is giving trouble seems like a waste of resources right now to me.
