Elite Dangerous: Odyssey | The Road To Odyssey Part 1 - One Giant Leap

Stream is very boring so far.
FD want us to feel a sense of wonder stepping out on a planet.
Achieved, in many parts of the game.
But that is pretty much it.
No new details 45 minutes into this.
And the Dev Diary skips around so much, it is very, very surface.
No deep developer commentary on how the planets are rendered (since that is the lead in I would think they would be proud to talk a bit more about that) new flight mechanics due to light atmospheres, if any, etc. So much that could get into cool detail.

How about some gritty details and answering the hottest questions even mentioning what may come later to avoid spoilers and work with their plan, whatever that is?

I love ED, huge respect for the developers. But the marketing is beyond me, past them just posting cool trailers. Befuddled by FD as normal of late.

Maybe this is partly due to the announcement trailer being prematurely released?

Oh well, will try to tune out until mid-September.

Still watching the stream here, and the planet tech really does look a quantum leap forwards [...]

I disagree. I think it's a huge improvement. :p

Some new info from the stream:

1. There will be an Exobiology rank.
2. Frontier rates their excitement for Odyssey as 10/10.

I'm very disappointed with the stream where you didn't say anything new.
I have questions.

1. How often are you going to publish Dev Diary?
2. Are we getting ship/stations/settlements/generation ships/etc interiors?
3. Are we getting more complex planets then what is shown in episode 1?

Thanks

Well I didn't expect the exo biologist rank!!! That's very interesting, more of this please FDev!
Expect the new grind to be as fabulous as the current.

I'm sure it will be interesting if they really have worked on and push the PG tech for flora (fauna too maybe?), but expect gameplay to follow the current paradigm.

Not really anything interesting for me yet. And avoiding answering questions and really engaging at all costs. I don't understand the culture change that happened in FD Towers from kickstarter to ... this, whatever it is.

As long as it's fun and looks as good as the vids I can't see it being a grind for me, I collect things in almost all my fave games, I'm a hoarder......I'm forever pickng flowers etc in Skyrim, if it's like that I'll be happy......will there be a "skip" animation! :)

Ah for F's sake, I've been waiting on the official FDev Twitch Channel for ages now and was wondering why there was no stream. Apparently it was on a different (the official Elite Dangerous) channel 🤦‍♂️

Funny thing is, I wouldn't even care about the "gameplay" side of things, I'd be perfectly happy to just walk around all tourist-like sampling rocks pretending to be Buzz Aldrin as long as I get to do it in VR. If the game is going to be all immersion, feels, vibes and "simulation" I'd rather experience it in the medium that is the perfect fit for all that.

I wouldn't need "emotes" to do that in VR.

Totally forgot about the lack of VR. Yeah I agree. Especially since I have ordered a VR headset that is arriving soonTM (hopefully).
It jus tfeels like FDev no longer has the capacity to develope and maintain the game further so they leave out more and more projects internally and call it a day.

Many thanks to the team. Great to see a return of the diaries. Some nice additional footage and concept art. So much more to reveal - has me positively salivating for the next dev diaries.

Really looking forward to being able to explore new planets. Interestingly, while you again confirmed we'll be able to visit light (tenuous) atmospheres, I don't believe you've yet stated we WON'T be able to land on more complex planets like ammonia worlds, water worlds and earthlikes. This really has my curiousity - will we not be able to land on these as many others believe (due the complexity and having not been explicitly mentioned either way), or are you keeping some surprises close to your chest in true FDEV fashion?

Yep, that's why it's walk everywhere and no fast travel for me :)

I hated fast travel when it appeared in Oblivion, but I must admit I got the extra carriages mod so I could travel to ALL the settlements then walk to objectives from there....although often I would just hoof it from place to place anyway, the Mod option that makes sense (carriages) was better than fast travel anywhere in map.
