Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Update 2 | Horizons Update

Yeah same happens to me with every patch. Something new goes wrong and none of the things they said they fixed are actually fixed, and on top of that it wrecks the performance even more.

I'm honestly too frustrated to play. I am uninstalling and maybe I'll come back in two months to see if its any better.
This is par for the course. FDEV made a complete dog's dinner of the fleet carrier release - 5 patches with each making things worse, the mining nerf that broke everything, including the PWA, the tritium debacle they tried to fix multiple times and then just gave up and doubled the efficiency. This will go on for months and months and months until eventually they give up and just stop fixing things.

I have absolutely zero hope for ODYSSEY - it had nothing I was interested in anyway, so hopefully, they stop "improving" HORIZONS so we can at least play the game pre-crapification.

Well, the update and/or hotfix has screwed up Horizons so much that my friends are no longer able to play without getting either kicked or black screened (it has been happening since Odyssey launched but now its worse than ever). Changed my review on the base game to negative as well on top of Odyssey. I'm not playing without my friends. It is painfully obvious they are not testing these patches. At this rate its going to take twice as long to get Odyssey where Horizons was at.
The more they port parts of ODYSSEY into HORIZONS, the more we have to accept they have killed this game.

Horizons was messed up again and again and again and again and again until they just stopped trying to fix the issues they introduced, and that was just with the relatively small fleet carriers release. They broke mining, the market, tritium, the list goes on and on and on. This team simply can not produce quality software for some reason, and ODYSSEY is so horrendously broken that it's only a matter of time until the back-ports putrify within Horizons as well. It's a damn shame.

Couple of things, Guards are still guarding on fire powered down sites. I also didn't notice any difference in their capability. There is a bug with the turbo lift getting stuck on exiting.

I love sarcasm.
No, that was not meant as sarcasm. I noticed a higher FPS rate yesterday. The changes apply well and my experience with that game is great in summary. Of course there can be always improvements. I have a head full of new ideas. And yes, the compromise between game consoles and personal computers is not always the best solution.

But in the end I loved Elite on the good old C64 hardware and had some dreams what could be done with future computer technology and now all this comes to life. I find this very exciting.

Ultra everything that can be ultra and high for everything else. 1080p

empty space i can hit my 90fps limiter (though at higher load than horizons).

empty planets near surface or walking around i get 70fps

roids (not dusty) i get about 80fps

ultraforcapture gets me 50fps walking around / on surface.

This is slightly better than prior to patch. Still massively slower than horizons with the same settings and unacceptable for VR.

I'm not seeing any regressions out in the black in terms of before and after the patch yet. Haven't been able to really test much though out here.

Four-lobed and immune to telepathy?

1. Most Commanders are interested in ship interiors and not fps gameplay. Frontier must know this considering that most Commanders do not PvP. Why we got fps gameplay instead of ship interiors is very curious.

I don't think this is suggestive of outsourcing to another developer. Rather it's path of least resistance stuff.

Most current players wanted ship interiors, but shooty elements might have attracted more new players.

Ship interiors are also clearly more technically problematic due to the fundamental constraint of having to fit them inside ships. They've messed with stats and features so much over the last seven years that half the smaller ships are TARDIS boxes (some can't even fit landing gear without clipping into) and given the performance problems with settlements and concourses, most of the larger ships would probably be unplayable. The scaling is also erratic to the point it would be jarring on foot without major alterations. Overall, I think ship interiors will be the most labor intensive aspect of the game that will ever be released, if they are ever released.

What does fps have to do with PvP?

There are very, very, few first person shooters where NPCs played by broadly the same rules as players that were anywhere near as good PvE as PvP.

It's very hard to do justice to AI in first person shooter games and most decent PvE shooters manage by making the player character a wholly different class of being relative to the NPC foes.

What gameplay can you do in "ship interior"? Genuine question.

Repairs, sabotage, burglary, smuggling, stowing away for free transport, espionage, planting tracking/surveillance devices, boarding parties, ship capture, etc and so forth.

A ship is a mobile home/base. Anything you can do at a settlement, and more, should be able to be done in a ship.

Requires that FDev abandon the dogma that artificial gravity and inertia compensators do not exist in ED 🤷‍♂️

Aye, I'm not sure how to log them to a file apart from SteamVR's built-in logging, although I know it's possible, I merely know it exists somewhere in the settings. The way I look at my VR framerate is simply just overlaying it in the HMD, assuming SteamVR, enable advanced settings and "Show GPU Performance Graph in Headset"View attachment 235790
FYI: Take a look at this thread re: new NV drivers (apologies if you're not NV) - I've had some success with them so far, although I did have my first ever CTD - so treat with caution, but so far I'm hopeful

What your solution to stay alive when your ship move ?

Tougher people and appropriately protected suits. I absolutely think unprotected mortals recently freed from their slave cans and the fluid that cushions them, or passengers who haven't strapped in, should turn into smears of gore on a bulkhead if a fast ship boosts without warning.

I also wouldn't mind seeing the flight models adjusted to make those mid-double digit g maneuvers less common.

But: Bookmarked station selected from GalMap took me to the system, station had to be selected manually - I'll check with my FC later.

Hopefully they will fix this oversight, noticed it has been like this since odyssey release,
I have to select the station via system map, selecting it via bookmarks just takes you to the system on the galaxy map.

Also, some Stations are Extremely bright >_<

Noticed this the ship hud panels are about right brightness now (can read the text on panels and chat names now),
but inside the stations is very bright and looks like its washed out similar to your image.

Think it either needs separate gamma settings for in ship and the station interiors as the stations interiors are just too bright and look 'washed out'
settlements seem fine and seem to be linked to the ships 'gamma', where the station interiors appear to be using their own settings.

Frame rate is about the same for me (45+ in stations and settlements), but I have noticed I get a bit of stuttering while in the station interiors now (the frame rate drops to 5 to 20 momentarily and it seems to freeze) every now and then. I didn't have that in the previous patch.

NPCs have lore overpass. Not CMDR 🤷‍♂️
When you think about how hard it is to stand up in the subway, how do you imagine an enoughtpaced ship battle gameplay compatible with a CMDR that does mini-games to repair the ship or to shoot intruders ?

I expect a maneuvering ship to be pretty much immune to boarding actions and impossible to repair. Most of these things would be done against ships while such maneuvers were impractical or impossible, or where the cost of flying straight didn't outweigh the need for inflight repairs.

Disabling a ship (knocking out thrusters and stabilizing it, or destroying the canopy and killing the pilots) would be an obvious prerequisite for most boarding actions, except perhaps against ships carrying passengers or delicate cargo, where not destroying the cargo or killing all the passengers would prohibit rapid maneuvers in the first place.

Most ships aren't even in flight most of the time and I'd expect most such actions to occur while ships were docked or landed.

If anything, artificial gravity/inertial dampers would nullify a lot of the gameplay constraints that would make these actions more interesting in space.

Im so sad Frontier to pay for this dlc and im old fan elite since in 1984 Cpc 6128 and Amiga 500 .........many, many of bugs... If we play team freeze server and not complete missions and the big one, drops frame rate still remains and etc......This game is not ready to play and not optimisation......Sorry but this game its a garbage and not spent any time to play...please stop razz the people anymore

Thanks for the fixes :)

I note some fixes for certain ships appearing like they used to do in Horizons; please could you do the same for my Copper painted Python? The brownish colour it has in Odyssey still looks like a dog turd colour, just without the pointy bit on top. And no lollipop stick either ;)
