Elite Dangerous Odyssey: Update 6.01

Why does the cargo scoop close whenever you enter the carrier management hud?

is that someone's intentional feature or what is hopefully some weirdly caused bug?

i can find no logical reason why the carrier management hud should impact the cargo scoop (or the state of anything on the ship).

@sallymorganmoore Hi Sally - thanks for all the hard work - I”M immensely enjoying Odyssey- and not have many issues at all. But - like some other players - the system map crashes to desktop. I voted and sent my issues to the tracker. Any news on this - I did notice some weird graphic glitches and flashes before is goes all COD

Hello! Thanks so mcuh! I've collected a lotttttt of data (thankful for the many log submitting commanders out there!) on these things so hopefully we're getting closer to honing in on causes :)

I think cargo scoop is toggle or hold.. if you are using a switch on your joystick maybe its letting go of the hold function?

No (not using the hold behavior), this is specifically a thing that happens when entering the carrier management hud in the ship .

if you have your cargo scoop open, it will close it. It has nothing to do with the binds associated with the cargo scoop.

Why would one have their cargo hatch open on a Fleet Carrier?
At least it is tidy and organised so ensured one's own safety!

Carrier management is in the right hand panel in a ship. Odyssey also changed it so you dethrottle in supercruise when you open that screen, you used to be able to keep flying in horizons

I'll frequently while mining want to do something other than watch limpets do their thing when i can't immediately go to another roid with a new prospector.

Sometimes that involves checking on the carrier. But every time i go to do that now, my limpets slam against the door to the cargo scoop. It makes absolutely no sense why looking at a hud info screen would alter your ship state. Zero.

Further confirmation on that; I'm floating by with FA off while I check on my own carrier, on my way out of mass lock, in Horizons that works as it should, but Odyssey turns FA back on and throttles me to zero.

Prolly shouldn't be a thing.

On these sort of notes (on undesired automation): It would be nice if UI panels that are open during docking or launching could maintain highlighting of whatever GUI element you may have navigated to, as the clamps (dis-)engage, instead of snapping away to (...I guess) the default-upon-opening-the-panel... I have done quite a few unintended things over the years, due to this overriding of user control, including a number of cases of launching again, a millisecond after touching down. :p

Why are we still dropping out of FSD from one system to another at the systems suns, do not make sense.

Why cant we drop out where we want, say the planet or star-base/stations, as we pick a system to go to the Nav-com pops up that systems map and we pick the place to drop out at say 200-400 ls away depending on size and where i.e any planet 400 ls away and stations 200 ls away and if we do need fuel then we pick the sun also if it's an uncharted system we then drop at either the sun but a little further away instead of the suns orbital radius, doing all or any of this would make the Nav-com a bit more realistic.

Yesterday evening during a session the game stopped writing a journal file.
I played from 19:11:53 (start of journal) until about 20:50 (both times in CEST)

In that session I engineered 4 modules on my ship:
Power plant @ Hera Tani (Armoured / Thermal Spread)
Power Distributor @ The Dweller (Charge Enhanced / Flow Control)
Thrusters @ Prof Palin (Clean / Drive Distributor)
Shield Generator @ Lei Cheung (Reinforced / Multi-weave)

After applying the 3rd pass of the 5th grade Armoured to the Power plant the game stopped writing the Journal (at 19:36:31 CEST).
The game functioned normally and I didn’t notice anything until I started flying from Hera Tani to The Dweller.
The 3rd party tools I have running (EDMC) for keeping track of stuff in-game didn’t update and gave an error: “Frontier server lagging”.
I did apply all 4 modifications and proceeded to play without a problem, bar the notices from EDMC.
My session ended in system NohoCherth docked at Outpost Amis Beacon on landing pad 03.
After the session I was curious to what the problem could be and found the truncated journal file.

How can I get the missing information back so my game status in the 3rd party tools is in line with the game again?

This is the thread I posted my problem in: https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/39579
It seems this problem is happening to more people?

Yes, happened at least 2 times. Both times I had running EDMC + new tool "Odessey suit engis". So I just assumed that 2nd one keeps file open when game tries to write, which makes game fail to write and never repeat. Just working theory for now for me. Can't confirm.

Why are we still dropping out of FSD from one system to another at the systems suns, do not make sense.
Because we don't have the tech do drop out of hyperspace wherever we want: we literally face-plant into the star's (hyperspace) exclusion zone, just as if we were super-cruising towards a planet going too fast.

EDO Issue. I don't know if this is a bug, or if FDev really intends EDO to behave like this. I have been doing all kinds of missions trying to get the mats to upgrade my gear, open engineers, and engineer gear. By doing some of these missions, a few factions have become Hostile to me. I had one of the few Covert Thefts I have seen offered in the last days. As I got close to the target, I see it is a Hostile faction. Have already taken the mission in another system, it's too late to not try. I land a few km away, creep up through the valleys with my SRV. I get within about 350m of the settlement, behind some rocks, nobody has any idea. I'm about to dismount to creep in on foot, because I know if either of the 2 skimmers sees me, the mission Fails. A landing ship flies over me and Mission Fails. There are a lot of situations like this where it is just impossible to do the mission, or there's no way to avoid the Fail, and the subsequent further ing off of factions due to failure. IDK if this is how you want this game to run. This has happened to me on Covert missions at least 3x in the last couple days. It is very, very frustrating, when I need to do Covert missions to open the engineer, and no matter what I do I'm going to fail and actually end up further behind in the game for even trying. I just moved on to my other Covert Theft mission tonight, and it is also against a faction who is Hostile. Fail. I played 2 hours tonight, failed at everything I tried, in situations that appear to be impossible to succeed in, and am very frustrated and significantly worse off now than when I started, because I have even lower rep with the factions that will still give me missions. I try to repair my rep with factions, but they don't offer me any missions because they all require better than Hostile rep. I wait until my Notoriety is down, try to pay off my Fine, but I can't land at any of the stations in the system because they're all Hostile, and the Interstellar Factors I go to outside this system doesn't handle this Fine. So many negative situations with no way out. You close off all avenues of success, it stopped being fun, and the last option is just quit and do something else. Please make the game so I can play it. People are angry because when we try to play, there are so many situations where the positive outcome factors do not work, but it seems like the negative ones always work, so you get into situations over and over where you have no way to succeed. Unless you want people to continue to quit ED and go to other games, in droves, you need to get a lot better handle on the positive:negative factors balance. It is very low much too frequently, and that is just not fun. The last thing I want to do right now is play EDO again.

EDIT. Leaving the post because I think it's an experience a lot of people are having. However, I think maybe the answer to my question is "yes." They do intend it to work that way. In real life if you run 5 violent missions a day in a given area, no matter how "right" you do them, you are going to create massive hostility toward yourself and need to go operate someplace else for a while until the heat goes down. And Odyssey makes you do that too. There are a lot of fundamental differences between how Odyssey runs compared to Horizons, and so Odyssey is not meeting expectations of a lot of Horizons players as a result. As I play more and more I'm finding Odysse actually a lot more realistic than the much more predictable Horizons. And maybe in the long run that's a good thing. I just have to get used to it and be more thoughtful and adapatable. There are a lot of bugs still, but maybe this isn't a bug but a feature.

  • 'Hold E to Loot' was proving an absolute nightmare for many. We've listened and understood, thereby reverting the action back to being a single button press.
The hold button is still affecting e-breaches, which are very much a thing I want to slap on a target quickly. Using an e-breach is a separate binding from the regular interact key so it's very much not a thing you can do without intending to do so, considering they need you to have brought one with you to begin with.
